Fifa 11 Xbox 360/PS3

Right I played it at the Eurogamer expo. 2 mulitplayer games.

1st I went fully manual v someone on fully assisted. I thought the pace of the game was slow but the passing too slow. I struggled with the passing as expected but managed to score my 1st ever manual goal from 18 yards, top corner. I thought the defensive line was better on 11 than 10 as even though my opponent was on fully assisted I didnt get cut open with ease as I would do on 10.

Next game I played on semi with the pro passing assistance 'off' against someone on fully assisted. Again the passing seemed too slow and there was no zip about any passes. The tackling is as bad as ever but I didnt think the game was as bad as I thought it was going to be. I still aint gonna buy it yet as it's not done enough this year for me but I can see why anyone who likes 10 will like 11. In fact I can see many who liked 10 turn that assistance on as it probably makes the game worse for them.

I was OM on both games and couldnt really notice any personality+ with any of the OM players.

Oh and the pressure whores can still do that as much as they want as both my opponents were pressing non stop and with no effect on them. The game really does allow you to play posession football if u like. On semi I was passing into feet and keeping the ball but the problem is there is a much easier way to play and be successful and thats how most people will play the game.

After doing some fiddling around in the menus (music is generally terrible, switched that off pretty quickly), I'm currently in the middle of a first exhibition (Villa vs Blues).

Very first thoughts:

1. What's the latest consensus on gamespeed? Because, while I haven't played the demo for a few days, in my first match this seems nice and slow (on Slow, obviously!) and just the same as I remember the demo.

2. First ten minutes of the match, Birmingham try to counter. The ball is crossed in but flies over the heads of attackers and defenders. CPU-controlled Nikola Zigic turns to chase it... his stamina bar is already red, he's puffing and blowing as he runs slowly to catch the ball. His susbsequent cross with his weaker foot slices out of play. When I take the resulting goal kick, he's unable to prevent me playing the short option because he's bent over double with his hands on his knees.

3. Gabby Agbonlahor's primary position is RM? REALLY?!
 
Played about 20 exhibition games so far. Will give it a good session tonight but so far I'm liking it but I can see things already that I know are gonna grate with me very soon if not fixed.
 
iv'e played 3 games so far and thoroughly enjoyed every one

to me the game runs fluidly and overall is 40 quid well spent

perhaps as the months go by certain things might grate but iv'e only owned the game for not even 24 hours so no, as it is i'm estatic

Had a few more instances of players going down to red stamina bar in the second half. Effects were minimal, they did feel slower but not drastically. Proper fatigue didn't kick in for anyone, although I wasn't sprinting like crazy.

Albrighton has Low defensive work-rate, hmm. I did apply to be a data reviewer for Villa but had no response :( . And you can't edit work-rate in-game.

I got Petrov sent off for two yellows while testing slide tackles :P . Subsequently, whenever Ireland was left alone in midfield, Downing was often tucking in from the left to help him fill the gaps. Thought that was nice.

Foster made a superb save, spreading himself across the six yard box when I thought Ireland had an easy tap-in. Looked very cool.
 
Hy guyz. I buy this game for PS3. And i have question. Can somebody wrote, how to put your own entrance and your own music into the game? I try some, but i failed :S . Please help. Thx

I third (I think) this opinion on yesterday's patch as does my brother. We played Madrid vs Barca offline and dribbling was massively improved. Messi, Xavi, Iniesta, Pedro were all able to fend off bigger defenders and we both made a point to test this because they were easily barged off the ball before this most recent update.

Don't know how it effected the User vs AI games but we both saw a huge improvement to the pressure fest as well. I asked him to play a "Hold A" type of defense all game and it was much less effective.

Anyway, EA did not test this game AT ALL before releasing it. In the past 45 minutes I've been able to play about 2 Team Play matches. They all freeze or I get dropped from EA's servers before finding a match.

Something else that I've noticed. I play a game with France. Then I play a game with Tottenham (both Team Play). In the match with Spurs, when I'm at the team management screen I make one change (Defoe is in the reserves for some reason) and then the entire rosters changes to France's. I press start, go to the pre-match arena and Ben Arfa is in a Spurs jersey. Then the game freezes. Have to go back to the dashboard. That happened one other time in addition to the game just freezing at random spots when searching for a match.

And just now...I'm trying to change the parameters for a search so that the search can fail and I'll be allowed to make my own match (the only way that one can make their own Team Play match) and for some reason "Max DNF %" is defaulted to "5 or below." I figure, "That's weird..." and proceed to change it to "ANY." Only that option no longer exists. I play another match me and my buddy end up quitting because two other guys picked "ANY." I come back and fire up another search, fail the search, make my own game. Suddenly the "Max DNF" field is back to "ANY" and on a whim I decide to check and see what the different values are...only this time there are only two options "10% Max" and "25% Max."

What the hell is going on?

Between the freezing, the lack of a boot option, the fact that I made a 5v5 match but more than 5 people can join your side. I don't even need to complain about the pressure and ping pong right now because I can't even get INTO a game.

Just finished a Team Play match where Wright-Phillips knocked my mate off the ball while he was controlling Vidic. He didn't tap the ball away or anything. Simply side to side, Vidic knocked over.
 
BTW, is there a way for me to have both versions (pre patched and patched)? or is there a way to uninstall the patch should I not like it?

Is the patch tied to just your Xbox Live account or would it also change my non Live account aswell?

I quite like how it's difficult to dribble past defenders (tho of course the rugby style defending, and the fact that the CPU does most of the defending for you, I do not like) - it's not perfect but I'd rather it that way than have it go back to Fifa 10 levels.

Last time I drank vodka before playing FIFA, I got so drunk that I couldn't see the players and the screen was just a big picture of green.

I didn't enjoy the game then.

:WORSHIP: I remember once coming home playing it think FIFA 08 drunk out of my face! Just giving it to everyone i beat online! Lol you got beat by someone who's drunk!

I'm going to try playing PES while having sex at the same time, if that's even possible! :))

That's where we're gonna have to disagree then. I just got off from playing the PES demo and well...you're definitely not far off with PES having easier dribbling controls but that certainly doesn't equate to it being better. On top of that, it's painfully obvious how the dribbling mechanics is based on a more rudimentary system.

For starters, the ball movement is so constrained at a jogging pace, with each push resulting in the ball barely moving away from your feet (and what's with the drastic decline in acceleration anyway). Another key difference is the fact that your player is too reliant on just using one foot. As a result, you're always limited to a fix number of turning angles and the dribbling feels less dynamic and more methodical/rigid. It's a set of constraints useful for a footie game but is far from being an accurate representation of the fluidity found in real-life ball control (look up on youtube for football dribbling drill videos or match highlights). You'll notice that slight directional changes in FIFA has the player alternating between both feet when he needs to, which results in smaller-degree turns and ultimately contributes to a more freeform control of the ball. There's a lot of depth to FIFA's dribbling mechanics but it's unfortunate that most people find it easier to just rely on speed, brute strength or tricks to get past a defender.

I've played and mastered all the skills and dribbling in all the next gen FIFA's and used and tired every trick, i tested the dribbling out to the extreme (i just naturally play with flair and skills :) )

PES dribbling system shit's on FIFA's so badly! It's not necessarily FIFA's fault their system is good but it's the old style. PES new system is levels above.

With FIFA it's the old (player is glued to the ball) system and with how the game is made, you can almost never beat a man with a drop of the shoulder. It's why also you see balls glued to players which helps the 'skating effect in FIFA. notice when you dribble in the area then stop without using R2 (let go of the sprint button or left stick. The player then walks up the the ball as if he's being pulled by gravity towards it! That's the system, it's an old system every football games used to use :)

In PES 2011 just like in real life you see Iniesta in my video beat players with body feints :) :BOP: Basically the ball isn't glued to the player in PES 2011 when you move the left stick so you can perform realsitic body feints just using the left stick naturally :)

FIFA has lead the way with dribbling since 08 but PES 2011 has brought it to the next level :)

That is, by cramming in a bunch of FIFA dribbling controls into the left stick, with clear compromises being made as a result (heavy reliance on one foot, limited angles.....true freedom and fluidity basically).

And nope, no amount of smilies is gonna make me think otherwise (I suppose you could at least bring in better evidence/facts). Cheers :)
 
Question for those who have the game and have played Career mode for player only...
As a single player, how is the AI on your own team? Will they pass the ball accurately, will they score on their own? Will they pass the ball to you when you call for it? Any kind of simple review on this would be helpful. I always found in past games the AI on your own team was incredible stupid and were just empty shells out there on the field which was frustrating. So just curious if this is now improved. Thanks.
 
Hmm, my initial impressions are that the game is way too quick and you have no time at all on th ball, but I've only played a couple of games.

Maybe tomorrow after my hangover (i was going smiley happy :) ) I'll explain it in better depth but i need to really explain just how much FIFA is on rails. It's a good debate man :BYE: it not something which is easy to see and it takes time and lot's or experimenting to fully understand it. Later i will fully explain my observation :)
 
It's quite obvious that PES has better understanding of weight shifting, inertia, foot planting and a better representation of how they work in real world. That's why you can wrong foot a player in PES and you can't in Fifa.

That's notimplying PES is perfect. It's got tons of flaws and technical shortcomings, but the ideas are more powerful and potentially can lead to a much realistic recreation of the sport both at the individual level and the team level.

In Fifa I can dribble a lot. In Fifa11 I've very quickly achieved a great skill in dribbling, don't know why. I dribbled 4 CPU players and scored with Nantes at WC difficulty in CM tonight, something I couldn't do before. I'm talking about CLOSE QUARTERS dribblings. It takes only the left stick and great timing to pass through people.

But, that said, if you analyzed my 4 dribble play, you would see all players skating around, some of the real world forces are blatantly ignored. For example, inertia sometimes is unexistant and players can change direction in a dime, or even WHILE doing a step. That's impossible in real life and that's the reason why Fifa players seem to float over the floor. There's no proper foot planting (we know 360 has some guilt here), no wieght involved and no proper acceleration and speed taken into account. I've seen CPU players come totally accelerated WHILE turning WHILE doing a step WHILE controlling the ball. Too much to bear, mate.

PES, on the other side, will punish you for not taking some things into account. If you begin to turn towards a direction you have to time well the moment to shift wieght and turn the other side. When you do it well, you can break your opponent's hip in what consitutes a much better reward than performing stupid tricks in any of both games. PES dribbling is very good and I think there's a consensus over its more "realistic" approach.

That doesn't make it better as a "game" or more "fun". You can hve for fun with the dirbble system that you want, but implying Fifa players move around more realistically would be simply nonsense.

By the way:
- Played 4 more CM matches. Still not a single injury.
- I deliberately did NO SUBSTITUTIONS in any match, and I didn't notice anything nor I felt any bad sign in any of my players. I've won all matches at WC difficulty and lead the League2 of france with Nantes with the same 11 guys...
- Headers are great and beautiful, but you end up scoring 8 headers for every goal you score with your feet. Goalkeepers are still great to stop your best shots but headers seem to get them by surprise.
