Fifa 11 Xbox 360/PS3

Replay Theatre it's a pile of crap. When in a match, when you save a replay you're in fact creating a FLV. The "Reaply theatre" is simply put a crappy FLV player that takes ages to do what should be done in les than a second, that is, to load and play a FLV.

If there is a proper way to save the replay (that is, saving the game data to HD, not making a video of a play), I don't know it and would appreciate any hint about it.

Jesus, who's coding all that?

@ Drekkard,

I had Gerrard go off injured in a friendly. I think I played about 7 or 8 matches yesterday.

@ noone in particular
Also an important detail when judging the game is to play tournaments. Exibition is the normal difficulty -1. Also I think there is a big difference between difficulties, on WC, as apposed to Pro (which I started off) the AI passes more. I'm hoping legendary will give some more possesion play when I give it another go tonight.

I checked the CT's for teams and for Leeds they only had their shooting at 50. I think you need to put it at 80 for the Arsenal's of this world and the rest can be 100.

How is this hilarious? Isn't is just sad?

Oh believe me I find that totally absurd (or hilariously sad, if you will). The attacker followed me all the way to my goal line until he ran out of stamina, at which point I saw him just jockeying nearby probably covering my passing angles or some shit as he slowly recovered lol. The game has got plenty of other things down right so I guess I'm not one to become frustrated over something stupid like this. It certainly doesn't imply that I don't care either but I had long accepted the fact that simulating realistic team dynamics will never be the focus for EA in this generation of FIFA, or at least it hasn't been so far. Unlike Konami, whom we all know have been paying more attention to the tactical depth of football, it was pretty clear from the series' revamp that EA decided to invest heavily on giving us more control over how individual players move on the pitch. Heck, we've gone through having (in order of implementation):

footplanting, momentum, IK
user controlled tricks/skills
jostling, increased responsiveness
360 degree dribbling
360 degree jostling, different personalities/styles without resorting to locomotion

...not to mention the tons of new animations added into the mix. They're all the result of EA's obsession with the biomechanics of soccer and providing the same physical freedom in their games. But I don't think the core engine is flexible enough (at least given the power of current-gen consoles) to combine 4 years' worth of animation additions together seamlessly. For eg. footplanting feels like it doesn't exist now (when it actually does despite so many people saying otherwise) because it's diminished by the fact that your player keeps transitioning into different animations that required of it at a fast rate.

Bottomline is: Konami's focus is on how each team flows, whereas EA prefers to expand on the movement flexibility of each individual player, with each developer is making compromises in aspects they're not focusing on. In a perfect world, we'd have a developer investing research and development into both areas but alas...So if you're looking to get a more tactical game, go get PES. If you're willing to learn the nuances in dribble control without even resorting to skills, then FIFA has a lot to offer. Whether or not you're able to apply those dribbling techniques depends largely on the playstyle of your opponent (be it cpu or human) and unfortunately for FIFA, those opportunities don't come often.

As far as FIFA gameplay improvements are concerned, i feel like we've come this far into the console generation for there to be diminishing returns, especially considering the game's 4 year-old foundations. And resources are finite; as you add in new features that require those extra cpu cycles, you only have that much left to squeeze out of all six threads in the 360's cpu (and lest we forget, the game's running at 60fps..how many 360/PS3 titles can even achieve this at 1280x720???). It'll be interesting to know how much room they have left to program in a smarter more tactical AI to command team dynamics on the fly. Short of revamping the engine again that is, which would then require tons more manpower on EA's part...oh hey maybe they're on to that already seeing as how some people are questioning the efforts of a huge developer like EA Vancouver!

Just thought I would post some quick impressions, I actually liked the demo, the slower pace and the general movement of the players.

Bought the full game and whacked it on World Class, now on '10 and World Cup it took me an age to adapt to the changes but even on my first game I was able to open Liverpool up with one-two;s, I lost the first 3 games actually but that was because I was having all my one on ones saved plus I was making the mistake of passing the ball to my centre back from the goal kick.

It honestly just feels like I am playing the World Cup game all over again, I see and feel no differences, the pace has been upped since the demo and as long as you approach from the front 9 out of 10 times you charge into the player using RB and A, I am sure this couldn't be done in the demo.

Because I played and mastered World Cup within two weeks I felt no need to play that game any more, this is the same after 4 games, I have just beaten Liverpool 4-1 four one on ones, did score a decent header from a cross though on another game.

Colour me underwhelmed so far.

I've no idea how this works, or even if it does, but am I right in thinking that World Class difficulty offers a better and slightly easier experience than Professional difficulty?

Am I crazy in thinking that EA have changed the description and setting for Passing Assistance setting from the Demo ?

In the Demo putting Passing Assistance to "On" turned the little white sweet spot marker on ...

Now in the full game Passing Assistance "Off" is turning the little white mark on ?

Haha only EA could do something as daft as that.

Little things annoy you about EA as well, like I noticed players no longer have a Full first name as they did in FIFA 10, now they just have their first initial.

Things like that are annoying, why are we going backwards with stuff, I know it's no gamebreaker but even still.

Still though, I think it's a bit naive to dismiss critisism and say it's because they play PES that they're being negative when an awful lot of people moved over to FIFA and have been with FIFA since 08.

To be honest I actually don't care if you've swtiched from PES since FIFA 08 or how many versions of PES you've played before switching. If I feel FIFA11 is a good game and couldn't care less about your criticism, what games you used to play before that mean nothing to me.

Not saying people should not critisize but saying people are critisizing because they used to PES and swithced to FIFA is rubbish...

Cheers, tried legendary and got two 0-0 draws, the oppenent AI was very aggressive but used a spin move to fool my defender alot of the times, I am sure I found the demo more realistic though.

Just picked it up from Blockbusters even though I told myself I wasn't going to but it was too tempting.

The game is better than the demo. Its not as bad as people make out but its also not as great as the press make it out to be either. Its the best FIFA I have played but there are still some glaring issues that EA haven't addressed and some of the changes they have made are just superficial. I don't know if i'm going to keep it as PES 2011 is out next week and in my humble opinion is the superior football game this year. I need to play it some more I think.

Keep getting this bug were I beat the defender, get fouled and then for some bizarre reason they get the freekick.

finally good post

I'm enjoying the game so far. It's not as bad as people have been making out at all but as another poster said, not as great as the press have made out, but i'm still enjoying it.

I really don't see why people get so agitated by other people not liking a game?!

If they want to say bad things let them and then counteract it with why you don't think that is right without attacking eachother.

I do think people are overly excited about Pes and they are overlooking a few things that would get Fifa slated for.

A guy in the pes discussion thread stated the other day that he stood still for the whole match and by the end of it all players had their stamina in the red. Everybody sort of ignored it in the thread and took the piss out of the guy for standing around for the whole match?!

If that would have been posted here about fifa it would have been 'Fuck EA' this and 'What a pile of shit' this etc etc. But on Pes side of things they seem to ignore it, because they are so happy that pes is playable again that they don't want to dwell on the negatives.

There was also a guy that posted a video of Ronaldinho in pes getting kicked in the arse with the ball and him spinning around during it...this was meant to be a demonstration of player individuality?! again people just getting excited and being satisfied with what they are seeing with pes.

But at the end of the day who cares?! people are enjoying the game let them enjoy it. If you are enjoying Fifa...enjoy it! you don't need to justify to anybody why your enjoying it.

All this calling people 'fanboys' just makes everybody sound like children and I know alot of people are of an age and it is ridiculous.

Just enjoy your games of football and that's it.

I for one, know I will like the new Fifa. I liked 10 I liked WC and I will like this. I am used to it so I will play it. I will probably pick up pes in a few months and give it a good go and then decide which one I will stick with (because I know I wont play both).

People just need to chill out and have fun with their games and not take offence when people don't like it.

I have always pefered the professional difficulty on most football games as I feel the CPU is more balanced.

I played 30 matches yesterday, a loooong session. 10 vs human and 20 vs CPU in CM.

Something "clicked" in me regarding dribbling (or the new update changed something, we will never know) and could make incredible plays and good goals. The thing is, I finally changed to SEMI passing, with the rest being full manual.

With manual pass it's bloody hard to play intrincate plays in the final third, if not impossible, and there ara a lot more tackles everywhere due to the little inaccuray of manual pass. As I have through pass to manual, I can play balls to space if I feel like, and have make good plays doing this:
http://www.ea.com/uk/football/videos/ugc/39002080

Playing semi passing and manual through balls you can get brilliant plays and deliver to space when necessary. So I had to sacrifice manual passing to have some fun in the game. Not that I love playing semi, but it's the only way to have some fun.

Placebo effect my butt - the game changed with the latest update and I'm now able to dribble much better as well. I might say something clicked but there's statistical differences in my end game match stats - now the CPU is not only taking more shots but is actually scoring against me. Where before my games were slugfests they now have some excitement. Before the game seemed heavily weighted in favor of defense and now it seems more balanced. I'd say I was going crazy but a roommate noticed a difference too and he didn't know about the recent update.

Is it possible we are getting these updates at different times, maybe based on location/region, which would explain the such different experiences going around?

Drekkard, i've also been playing around with switching back and forth between semi and manual - the CPU defense is too perfect and reactive for me to be successful with manual passes in the final third. Though after playing manual for so long I have real difficulties staying away but it's frustrating when dominance elsewhere on the pitch isn't equally enough quality chances on goal. In no way am I asking for high score lines but if I'm consistently outplaying the CPU I'd like my goals and shots on target to reflect that.

I kinda wish I could have semi in the final third and manual passing everywhere else!

And yeah, I've yet to have an injury in my CM too.

Jesus, who's coding all that?

Funny because I just read an article about EA supposedly struggling with attracting and retaining top quality programmers and devs. Makes you wonder at times...

I know what you mean about PES superiority when it comes to team AI and depth but I don't think FIFA does dribbling mechanics as well as PES either, and when it comes to close quarters dribbling and the ability to lose a defender with just left stick movements, FIFA isn't even close. FIFA is much improved this year but still not good enough - especially considering defending is now so easy that you just need to run next to or bump into a dribbler and the CPU does the rest!

It honestly just feels like I am playing the World Cup game all over again, I see and feel no differences, the pace has been upped since the demo and as long as you approach from the front 9 out of 10 times you charge into the player using RB and A, I am sure this couldn't be done in the demo.

Colour me underwhelmed so far.

After the most recent game update one of my first thoughts was that it now feels just like the WC game. Not so much a criticism as an observation.

I'm not the first to say this and I won't be the last but the biggest difference between PES and FIFA is depth - for all its improvements since FIFA started trying to be a more serious football game, and there are many, FIFA has not closed the massive gap in gameplay depth. PES obviously has a different philosophy behind its development and will likely remain ahead in this area but hopefully EA will make adding greater tactical depth and variety a priority.

Conclusion
I think it's save to say Rutter&Co. have undone all the good groundwork from Booth&Co. and FIFA is back to it's spiritual home of Arcade Shite. It may be technically a great game, it may have some great aspects and qualities, however I have lost patience and the will to look past the now many many footballing flaws present in the game. I might give the CM a chance as I have to wait for the UK version of PES to arrive so I might get some joy from that, but I really doubt it.

It's a dissapointing release for me, as it's probably the best FIFA game this generation, but that has also made it the least like football. I'm hoping some more time with it and the CM will make more more enthousiastic, however these are my first impressions.

You have to give this game time and it will seriously grow on you. This game minus a few things is what people have been clamoring for on these forums. It's honestly the best footy game I've played since PES 6 or so. Every game is a challenge and while pressure can be a bit much, I don't get the pressure from every single team every single game. Play Everton and they pressure you all day like in real life. Play Manchester United and the pressure eases off a bit.

I implore you and others to take the time to get to know the game and it will be rewarding. I haven't had a game where I wasn't tensing in my seat trying to get a last minute goal and when it came I nearly jump out of my seat.

I am playing as Leeds by the way. Was tied with Man U in a league cup game 1-1 in the 87th minute. Just like United would do in real life, they score off a corner where the ball is bouncing in the box and I can't get a defender to clear it. I didn't feel cheated at the end like previous version, I felt it was what Man U always do... fight til the end.

I'll give it some time. By the sound of the new update it should be an improvement. I'll probably be playing it for the whole weekend (or most of it). However I do feel that they have "Arcaded" up since 09 and that for me, a CM player only, the team AI just isn't good enough anymore to keep me entertained. I'll still be spending some time with the custom tactics to try and get as much personality into the teams and give the CM a good go.

@ Scutch,

The cul de sac movement I was talking about was for more present on Pro then WC. I've always played WC so for me that's a better fit.

.
- Shots to the post ARE NOT INCLUDED in the highlights AGAIN, for the 4th year in a row. Idiots.

I just had a shot which hit the post in the first half, it showed in the half time highlights and it was chosen as one of the 10 post match replays I could save/upload, it was during a match where I constantly attacked over the 2x10 minute halves so there were definitely a lot of highlights for it to "choose" from :)

Anyone know how to stop stuff like this from happening. It seems to happen a lot against Barcelona. I mean, normally the defender will take the ball in this situation if the passer gives it right to him. But as you can see...

http: //www.easports.com/media/play/video/39177715 (you've got to copy and paste it; remove the space between the colon and forward slashes as well.)

Uuugh. Now this is infuriating. I had some decent matches against the AI on World Class difficulty. I then decided to go online. Played a random 17 year old in a 1v1 ranked match. I picked Liverpool and he chose Arsenal.

Within the first ten minutes I got Glen Johnson sent off for a foul that at most was worthy of a yellow card. This was slightly annoying but I thought it must have been due to having a strict referee as they now have different personalities.

Anyway the match continues but after Johnson was sent off the kid who clearly plays on everything Assisted (while i'm on Semi-Manual) just put me under constant pressure and ping ponged the ball around (even though this was meant to have gone with the advent of 'Pro Passing') for the next 90 minutes until he got it to either Arshavin, Van Persie or Chamakh and then scored through cut backs or by running down the wing and exposing the huge gap that Johnson had left (even though I had changed to a more defensive formation and defensive settings). Whenever I had the ball and tried to build it up by passing it through the back four and developing the play through the midfield he would get two people to pressure me constantly. As a result I was often dispossessed. The match tempo was completely unrealistic. If real footballers played at such a quick, pressurised pace with one touch passes I think they would have a heart attack by the end of the match!

Im not a bad player by any means but I just cant deal with how these idiots play. Even in PES 2010 there were exploits but when you played a random it was no where as bad as this. In the end I lost 5-1. I managed to score one nice goal with Fernando Torres from outside of the box but it was pointless in the end. When he brought Walcott on in the 2nd half he just sprinted down the wing and passed it for a cheap goal. 4 of his goals in the end were cutbacks!

I then played another random online. It was 0-0 around the 58th minute when I decided to make a substitution. I pressed X to confirm my choice and then all of a sudden I was booted to the arena! Clearly a bug. If stuff like this continues then I will be returning it on Monday.

Which fatigue problem? Lower league teams being knackered all the time? No it's not an issue now, however, they've unfortunately completely removed the aspect of "match fitness" in that it took 4 or 5 matches for players to be fully match fit at the start of the season which was something I really liked :(

After purchasing the game and just playing a couple of games, I have a few questions.

1. Why is the passing so GOD DAMN SLOW? I could deal if this depended on which player you're using... but it doesn't. Passing with Scholes? slow. Rooney? Slow. Ferdinand? Slow. If you MAX OUT the power bar it does NOTHING. Absolutely nothing, except maybe pass to a guy further away. So part a to this question would be where is pro passing, and part b, where is personality plus in passing?

2. How is it possible that we still can't edit formations/tactics online, or use man marking? Why do I have to decide and save all my formations before a match? It has been like this for years and the fact that they decide not to fix it is just purely LAZY. Anger level rising.

3. Work rates- you can edit these offline, does this mean that it will completely override what a players' personality is, or will it just change it a bit? Cause that would be another element of personality removed from the game, no?

4. Personality plus- if anyway can really see this in the game, more power to you. There is basically no variance in passing skill or touch skill, nor in the dribbling of the players - do you really feel that much different dribbling with one player to the next, minus their star rating? How can you spend a year focusing on personality and have these results?

So far, I can say I will be able to at least put some time into this game if and only if they sort out the passing, this is by far the biggest issue and is driving me crazy at the moment.

LOL I just figured out the career mode speed setting issue, so guess what the answer is? You can only change it before the first match of each month, how bizarre is that?

My game and system freezes if i try to download the squad update as soon as it gets to 100%.
So i tried careermode without squad update and my game and system froze when i clicked advance.
Downloaded game to harddrive just freezes when i hit advance so no career mode for me WTF.
