Fifa 11 Xbox 360/PS3

It's not like you need that much. I like how the trailer tries illustrate all the different traits. What was the move Iniesta does on Chiellini towards the end to avoid the tackle? Is it new?

The VP info is really important. Now double as many accomplishments (some of the new are goalie). Personality+ integrated into it. Double the traits in VP, and you can only have 5 each. The attribute seeding has been made role based, rather than just whether you are a def, mid, or str.

Clubs wise, friendly clubs match, knockout cups (which we already knew). Mike Takla has done a blog which will be posted soon to elaborate more. Excellent.

Sounds interesting.

The VP stuff does sound interesting. Last year I had a lot of fun building my VP in offline BAP and MM but I always wanted more - he basically mentions all the issues I had with it.

I'm just disappointed we won't be able to use our VP in the Manager option in CM. I know some argue it's against the point of VP to control an entire squad, but I really enjoyed having my VP in MM last year. Hopefully EA can change this. It's just an option after all.

My biggest issue with VP last year was I could never get my face to look correct, though my old computer could be somewhat to blame. Any news of an improved facial import program?

Am I the only one worried that in most of the trailer the matches were at night and in the rain?! :D

Also quite amusing to see the first Inter screen. It's nearly identical to what Konami released 4 or 5 years ago as what nextgen would look like. :D

The reason they did that is probably because in FIFA the day lighting is wank - it makes the kit colours look all washed out and makes the players look like they are made out of plastic or something...

The rain makes the pitch texture look much better, on FIFA 10 anyway some of the pitch textures for dry day matches were awful...

Yep, obviously some kid has been busy in the school holidays.

Nah, he's a good guy in person, mid 20's has a life actually but he's always hated PES for some reason, even the back in the day Classic versions!

So he's not someone you should pay attention to in regards to his opinion on which game is better!

Also he's been working with EA for years :)

I think the best way to describe these graphics is that Nani in this pics looks exactly like Micheal Jackson's monster in the thriller video!

I think that if the graphics look as cartoony as these images, Bruno Alves will be the real Thriller zombie.

I have to say
PES offers much more in the international teams department that FIFA does with the obvious exception being that FIFA has the ability to release world cup games.

I'm not mentioning the Euro games since the last one was POOR in terms of licenses and kits!

EA really do need to work on that because you know how licenses sell :) Also i find those international tournaments on FIFA lately to be really limited in terms of teams :(

I'm gutted Rutter did not state injuries were now in the game and properly implemented, that should have been his first comment on stage...

 when has FIFA ever had a good injury system?

I'm so sick and tired of people talking about this game, i want to see it!

You would have thought that the work they did on the so-called improved collisions system last year that took into account the momentum of both players, which leg was hit etc. to make tackles (in particular sliding tackles) look more realistic would have given them the basics around which to form a good injury system...

For example, if a player is just about to pass the ball and a defender sprints in from the side and completely takes out their standing leg, there should be a fairly high probability of an injury in comparison to just being tripped up when running... seems very random at the moment and always did in PES to me as well.

Also, hopefully we see injuries online this year, as in the sort where the player hobbles round and is useless or is unable to play on, at the moment you get ones that last about 1 min and then the player ALWAYS gets up...

And keepers should be able to get injured, there is literally no point in having a keeper on the bench in FIFA 10...

This would be much better, I was hoping for better graphics when the player was injured too but as the having a sit at the pitch side is still in there, I'm guessing the rest are the same too...

Let's hope the injuries are a little more diverse than a twisted ankle and damn whiplash...

Precisely what I've always thought, rob. I can only hope they are working on implimenting it in 12. Not sure FIFA (the governing body) would be too keen on that feature though. Similar to how car manufacturers are picky about damage on their cars in videogames. If EA started showing ankle twists, leg breaks or people coming to a painful stuttering halt grabbing their hammy, then I don't think they'd (FIFA) be up for it.

I'd like to see muscular and bone injuries shown with ingame animations though. I'm shocked they haven't put in a stretcher cutscene. That shit was in ISS FFS!!

How do you think the game will go in terms of bugs, the lack of footage does worry me in this area, almost makes me think the game has a large number of them and EA aren't confident to show the game.

It will have bugs (not many sports games are free of them) but I doubt bugs are the reason for their shyness. Prettys sure it's a combination of being overconfident and licenses. By licenses I mean shit like Ozil joining Real Madrid in the middle of their press conference while they show him playing for Werder Bremen :lol

See it's tricky to start a whole marketing campaign when yur cover boys have no idea if they're coming or going and some League haven't started (Spanish) so we haven't seen all the new kits. Maybe the Sponsors would rather the worldwide debuts of their kits were done in real life rather than in a gameplay vid of a game?

Pretty sure it's stuff like that. Also, I don't think EA would put the game in the hands of hundreds of fanboys (including myself) a month from launch if it is littered with bigs (Gamerbase tour). I bet there are issues with manager mode and the usual exploits with Online teams. Althought that square ball will be fucking HARD with ProPassing

They showed the hell out of FIFA 10 by comparison and that was littered with bugs. We'll have to see what the gameplay vids off the screen are like though.

Not really impressed, nothing really new and they didnt really go into detail about manager mode. I think the only way to tell if the game is that good will be watching the gameplay videos and, more importantly, playing the demo. It sucks it's delayed by so much. Last year we got it on the 9th, now it's the 16th :( Less than 2 weeks before the release? Sucks!

This is what could be a sign for worry.

Yeah, either that or they're confident enough that the demo will deliver so a day 1 patch for tweaks is not needed.

IGN preview: Playing As The Goalie

A red arrow is placed under the feet of strikers so you know which way they're leaning and where their momentum is going. Players will fake shots, they'll curve them away from you and they'll make long passes to the opposite post that you'll need to properly judge in order to snare them in your arms. That little red arrow might seem a bit strange at first, but it soon becomes pivotal to your success on the pitch.

Controlling the goalie himself is probably easier than you imagine. To dive in a direction, simply flick the right stick. Diving is more about timing your flick properly than guessing the direction correctly. Regardless of which way you flick the stick, your goalie is going to dive in the direction of the ball. No matter if you have the diving assist turned to fully assisted, semi-assisted or off, you're still going to leap in the direction of the ball. Only your timing window is affected by tuning the option. Once you have the ball in your hands you can throw it to a teammate, kick it or drop it on the ground and dribble it out of the box. But be careful, you don't want to tire out your goalie with a lot of needless dribbling as that will diminish his range in the box.

So...no true manual controls when playing as the keeper then? They're making it sound like it doesn't matter if you're aiming for high or low dive; the game determines that for you.

Or it's more a timing thing. Two weeks still enables people to be really excited without seeing a huge amount of gameplay flaws, a month (like the last 2 demo's) means people are already sick of the demo before the game is even released.

The later release could also mean they are doing more extensive testing to make sure the problems are more ironed out.

Any free time available for extensive tests is always good but I was kinda referring to collecting feedback from the demo. It does seem like they're putting their foot down this time and assuring us that the demo will be a safe indication of the actual game, hence there'll be no need for a patch on release date

This is really good if it carries across to the other players. It means fatigue has an overal effect on player stats and not just running speed.

I remember someone on the FIFA forums suggesting the keeper should dive the right way regardless of what you press but if you press the right direction too then it should improve your chances of making the save. Wonder if that's what they've gone for, or if that IGN bit is all there is to it.

Is there a single person on Earth that would want to play as the keeper in a video game? I mean seriously? Maybe during corners and free kicks, but the rest of the match? Can't believe that's where they've spent their time :(

Overall the video looks fine, lots of nice touches. But as always proof'll be in the pudding. FIFA10's single player experience was so broken I stopped playing in about 48 hours after purchase. This year I'm definitely going to hold off pre-ordering until I hear that they've actually fixed the multitude of crippling bugs/errors in AI.
