Fifa 11 Xbox 360/PS3

Excuse me, while I kiss this guy...

Fixed... ;-)

Looks like EA could be getting a case of Konami-itis, merging a mode and adding goalkeepers doesn't sound like a big push forward.

I know improved gameplay should always come first but the modes are pretty uninspiring.

Lets hope they put it all into the gameplay, i fear it'll still be released with bugs and exploits but this time we have no extra modes to keep us interested.

15 seasons as a goalie... naaaaaaa

I swear they have just put it in because this is Fifa 11 and they want 11 players controllable so that 11 to be the marketing theme...

That's a lot of standing around. I'm already quivering at the prospect of having to deal with bugs and potential screw ups that's bound to arise with every new feature added.

Press Release:

NOW FANS CAN PLAY AS THE GOALIE IN EA SPORTS FIFA 11
All 22 Players on the Pitch Can Be Human Controlled in Online Team Play

GUILDFORD, UK, 17 August 2010 – Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: ERTS) announced today that EA SPORTSTM has developed a new feature called Be A Goalkeeper for FIFA 11 that will enable fans to experience the thrill of playing as the keeper, and for the first time in a football videogame, will place control of all 22 players on the pitch in human hands. The new feature will be available for the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system and Xbox 360® videogame and entertainment system when FIFA 11 is available in stores September 28 in North America and October 1 in Europe and Asia.

Chelsea FC and Czech Republic goalkeeper Petr Čech has been signed as the spokesperson for Be A Goalkeeper and will be featured in advertising, marketing and promotional campaigns.

Be A Goalkeeper is a completely new way to play—instead of thinking as a player out in the middle of the pitch, you have to think and react as the goalkeeper. Experience the thrill of the one on one battle, making the great save from a free kick, punching balls safely out of danger, the pressure of the corner, and most importantly, keeping a clean sheet. Be A Goalkeeper features three levels of accessibility with varying degrees of AI assistance—assisted, semi-assisted and fully manual. Fans will be able to compete as the goalie in Career Mode and enjoy a 15-year career or create themselves as the goalie in Virtual Pro 2.0 to learn the position, track stats, complete achievements and test themselves against the best players in the virtual world.

With control of the keeper now in human hands FIFA 11 will deliver an authentic replication of football online with 11 vs. 11 Online Team Play that locks people into the role of a single, fixed player the entire game. Now up to 11 friends on different consoles will be able to select and take control of their own individual players on the same team to compete against up to 11 rivals of another team.

“The phenomenal growth of online gaming and the desire of our fans to be able to play as the goalie was the driving force behind this innovation for FIFA 11,” said Kaz Makita, Executive Producer, EA SPORTS FIFA. “Friends can play alongside each other in their pro clubs with all 11 virtual players on the pitch human controlled. We have finally replicated football in the virtual world.”

Over 750 million online connected games have been played since FIFA 10 launched last October and over 350,000 pro clubs have been created that enable friends to compete alongside each other against rival clubs. Pro Clubs is one of the most popular online game modes in FIFA.

FIFA 11 reinvents player authenticity – on and off the ball – for every position on the pitch with Personality+, and introduces new Pro Passing where pass accuracy is determined by a gamer’s ability on the control pad, and player skill, situation and urgency on the pitch. Plus, experience true freedom in man-to-man interactions with 360° Fight for Possession that transforms physical play from just lateral jostling to full 360° collisions.

More modes? I was hoping for expansion on the ones we have but hey, at least there are things to come still?...

Probably stuff like we already know about. Didn't they say he was going to reveal new features today and all he did was reveal what we already knew for weeks (a month?).

something weird with this trailer is when it says "PERSONALITY" and then kaka do that trick like Ribery... lol come on... kaka hardly do a stepover.

There was a hell of a lot of demand for this ever since BAP came out. Not necessarily from everyone, but there were threads cropping up about this daily on the official forums.

11 v 11 is the future. Certainly Clubs, even in the diabolical FIFA 10, still offered up moments of magic that offered up peaks way above both FIFA and PES's single player/1v1 experience. It's just a question of eliminating those troughs that blighted Clubs, which were accentuated versions of the problems with 1v1.

I guess I'm a relic of a different age then. I just don't get what people like so much about controlling a single player - when I'm playing clubs or BAP, I'm thinking, I'd rather be outside playing the real thing (and at least getting some exercise!). Interestingly, among all the FIFA players I know IRL feel the same except one.

And good god, no one wants to play keeper IRL, so I can't imagine someone getting such a kick out of playing goalie in FIFA!

I guess I'm a little stunned that my impression - that BAP/11v11 was little more than a distraction from the real game - was so wrong. Maybe sometime down the road, competition between football games will be distinguished by which franchise caters to which crowd?

I love BAP mode!! Don't see myself playing as a goalie though where if in a good team especially, you may have what 2 saves to make in the whole 90 mins?

I wish they had expanded and improved the actual existing modes like Manager Mode (#1 priority) and then BAP mode which was left the same even last year instead of adding new things which very few will get any real joy out of anyway.

But whatever... life goes on...

People can play as a player much better than themselves in this :)) also you can play whenever you want, which you can't do with all your mates in the park.

I haven't played alot of clubs, but it is lots of fun when you get a good crowd. You can play a great game of football if people stick to their positions and can make runs that the computer would never do or moves that just come organically...similar to real football. so when you do a good move between you all it feels a million times better.

I prefer playing with the whole team more than clubs, mainly due to the fact I can't join up with a good group of people, all of the time or when they want to meet up and play. i can also be shit and just effect myself :)) if I am shit on clubs I feel like I have let the team down.

anyway nothing beats playing a bit of footy for real, but clubs is a good substitute if your feeling lazy :))

I just think that's too funny. The thrill?! I wonder if whoever wrote that actually played an entire 15-year career in CM as a keeper!?

I know, what's going on here. Via twitter and the forums EA really got us hyped for new announcements - I remember someone, I think at FSB, using the phrase "jaw-dropping."

Just another hype-fest I guess?

Bit of an anti climax that. I thought we was going to hear something new. Turns out it was be a keeper, which we have known about for a very long time. In fact the whole press conference was stuff we know.

Play as a keeper in a shit club against top clubs, could be a thrill.

Okay, good answers. It's hard to argue back against the laziness argument, and I get what you mean about doing things in Clubs we wouldn't pull off ourselves IRL.

And I'll concede that maybe I've just yet to had a good experience to really pull me in to clubs - most of the games I took part in consisted of selfish play and lack of teamwork, and I found it unrewarding unless I played in an attacking role, partly because of the stupid ratings system, though I hear that's been fixed. Also, I've always tended to have issues with lag, maybe because atm I'm stuck on a wireless connection.

Here's my other problem: usually I come late to Clubs because when I first get FIFA I'm so excited to delve into MM (now CM) that by the time I go online there's a feeling that I'm too late to the party. Quite frankly, I think it can be a bit intimidating finding teams to play with, especially when you're looking for more intelligent teamwork-based experiences. I imagine as Clubs grow, the interface and experience will improve and make it easier for someone like myself to get into Clubs, because honestly it often just feels like too much of a pain in the ass atm.

Seems a bit narrow minded to think that being a keeper can't be fun. If it turns out not to be, then fine. But there are plenty of people who think that being any individual position can't be fun and they've been proved wholly wrong whether THEY enjoy it or not - if you think the same about keepers then how are you any different? There are plenty of people who have asked year after year after year to be a keeper in both PES and FIFA - you can't just scoff at it because you don't think they will be able to enjoy playing the position. Just because you don't mingle with people who want to be goalkeepers or ignore the threads where people ask for it, doesn't mean they don't exist.

And if anyone thinks that Be A Keeper interferes with the resource available for Career Mode to any remotely significant extent then Google is about to receive another 'facepalm' image search. They assigned one of the GAMEPLAY designers to fixing keepers and this, along with past research they'll have done on BAK, has been his responsibility. Not Marcel Kuhn's or any member of the CM dev team.

Can't tell anything from that silly video and be a goalkeeper...................perrrrlease.......what a waste of dev time.

Proper gameplay vid is needed urgently:CONFUSE:

i think the be a keeper is a good idea, but purely on the clubs section as when you play clubs, the keepers are always small/shit. but then again, they could get this horribly wrong, how do you make keeper jump high/low? how do you punch or grab balls? etc. hopefully it does work

I know debbie downers will be all over these for being hi-end renders using ingame models and blah blah blah but these are the best screens i've seen of a football game. EVER.

Oh come on now, of course some people will find playing keeper fun, just as there are people in the world that find pleasure in inflicting pain on themselves. But I think you know what I'm talking about - growing up, no one wants to be keeper, and even as adults it's rare to be at a pickup game and have someone volunteer to play goalie. There's a reason why there are plenty of cliches out there about the position.

And no facepalm image necessary - not everyone is privy to as much insider info as you are. Hopefully you can forgive my harshness - I have a lot of resentment built up as a huge fan of MM, and that resentment frequently turns into jealous anger at the other game modes, somewhat unfairly I admit. I will try to be a bit more open minded, but please forgive if I don't always succeed.

I think the graphics look much better, still cartoony though. I don't think it will take the breath away ingame since they wouldn't be as sharp!

I think the best way to describe these graphics is that Nani in this pics looks exactly like Micheal Jackson's monster in the thriller video!

http://media.operationsports.com/shots/1282059186-media.jpg

I like the atmosphere in terms of weather effects like for example muddy pitches, wet player etc.. looks ok, but bit too glossy though. Dosen't look entirely realistic

Trailer is well put together and slick, but it really tells me almost nothing really. They added a few skill moves for the CPU to do, that about it! So i can't get excited (sorry romi)

The proof will be in the gameplay, where is it exactly? BTW are techfit kits in?

That Inter Milan home kit looks shit! Absolute shit! colour is too light again! For the last few years EA have done a poor job on inters kits which i s a great shame since there kit's look sexy every season :(
