FIFA 10 360/PS3 Demo Feedback + Videos

Those volleys are all because of the keeper bug. Treasure them while you can!

I do think it's a bit too easy to hit volleys like that well. It needs miscues (whether they're skied or sliced). At the moment that particular type of volley almost always gets topspin so you can really fill the bar up; it'd be nice if you didn't get your knee over the ball every time, and some of them just kept on going up.

Kev/Rob...

I clicked the stick in after Stu mentioned it on here weeks ago and the first 2/3 shots I did were with his left foot. I've just put the demo on now and it's doing nothing. :D :EMB:

I'm trying LT+RT and flicking the left stick left but I can't get him to put it on his left foot though...

Had an interesting bug today. Del Piero was taken down and went off to sit at the touchline injured. With Amauri about to take the FK, I went ot choose kicker using R2. Intrigued to see Del Piero in the list, I selected him. Sure enough, he stepped up to the ball. I then tried selecting someone else to see if he'd stay on the pitch, and he did. Except, he was sitting down, holding his leg, as he would have on the touchline.

It'll be interesting to see if EA have spotted that before going gold (Chris, have you seen this mentioned?).

just been looking through the skills section in the fifa demo. there is LOADS that 5star players can do ahead of 4 star players. maybe the foot switching is one of them?

you have to go into the player bio to see if a player is 5 stars for skill or not.

Ok, this will be my last vid for the demo. Gonna write some impressions tonight and then go cold turkey on Fifa 10 until launch when i'll have a LOAD of vids going up.

This is the vid i got the most requests for.

YouTube - Fifa 10 Demo - Lionel Messi Facial Animations

If Fifa 10 had decent celebration mode you would get a better look at the gorgeous player models. As it is though they're a total waste. Only geeks like me who zoom right in can pick out the amazing details for you guys to see!... well i should say me and Gari over @ FSB! He's done some sick amount of detailed vids!

Indeed, he looks like an amazingly detailed gormless zombie the whole way through that!

Played the demo a few times now and am decidedly disappointed. It seems like they haven't progressed much from last year, at times even gone backwards with regard to the overall 'feel' of the game.

The floaty shots and air hockey passing, the players' techniques that seem to have no bearing on the context of the situation they're in, the clunky dribbling, using the wrong foot at the wrong time, the awful player models and kits, low resolution stadiums with watercolour pitches, the off colour atmosphere - the running animations.. and more

There is so much wrong with this game it's amazing how little it gets criticized. I guess smooth and detailed animations (that happen to be contextually random in any case) outweigh gameplay. Back when fifa was even worse than it is now, people used to say that fifa's good graphics weren't as valuable as good gameplay. Wake up people, with animations it's the same thing.

At the end of the day it's a poorly designed game of 22 stick models and a ball. Just nicely dressed up. I'd much prefer a game of fifa 09.

@ the emirates guys,

Is the demo the older build you played or the 24h one on the big screen? Seems odd that the goalie bug is in the demo as it was gone from the 24h one, iirc. Also explains the "samey" feeling you have innitially.

Played some more and still like it, however I do find the new player control (first touch) a bit clunky. Its like they have added an animationcycle from 09 meaning that it seems less responsive/slower to get the ball under control.

it's because it gets compared to FIFA 09 and PES 2010, it is better than 09 in many ways, but worse in some and PES 2010 has soo many flaws in every aspect apart from the graphics that FIFA 10 is perceived to be better and in my opinion it is the best game at the moment.

on another note, scored this the other night on fully manual and world class

I had a fun game last night as Chelsea v Barcelona and i won with a brace by Drogba. He is a beast in the game, rather like in real life. He can jostle for the high balls (like from goal kicks) and/or knock them on. He's strong on the ball too. This demo is of course the only time i'm likely to use a team as good as this.

Here are a couple of vids from that game. The first is Drogba's second goal, which Anelka finds space to create. He performs a quick dummy at the beginning of the clip and as he does, his pace then beats the defender.

The second was when Valdes came up for a Barcelona corner (when 2-0) down and Cech saved and distributed down field to Drogba out wide. This was his attempt. You'll see Valdes running back, lol.

Really don't like that there is different ball physics on normal shots and freekicks. I played around in the arena for an hour running around shooting and taking freekicks and they are completely different.

Normal shots are still pretty floaty and overall weak, but freekicks have more power and a lot more curl (even when doing the hard shots you can curl a lot which never happens in normal hard shots).

I also don't like that when running around normally and shot you have to tap the button very quick for low hard shots. I remember in Euro 08 you could make low hard shots (not just a tap) by timing the shot so the ball was very close to your feet. But in FIFA 10 this is almost impossible, because as soon as the ball is starting to come close to the feet the player makes a touch. It is very often that I time a shot really well (or so I think) and the player make a quick touch and THEN shoot. It's like he always stretch for the ball with a touch so it can't come close to the body.

With freekicks it is so nice to be able to hold down LB (new a.) and charge up a bit and still produce a low shot. By charging up it makes you feel you're really going to hit it hard.

I think they should make it so if you hold down LT or LB it will be a low shot and you can charge it up a lot. A mistimed low shot would result in a weaker top spin kind of shot in "random" directions. Because I think it is pretty pointless as it is now with three typed of normal shots. If you just press shoot you get a semi hard shot, if you hold down close control you get an even harder shot and finally if you press sprint button you get the hardest type of shot.

I say put low shots on close control and make the shots when not pressing a button more like the current close control shots.

To me the balls in PES feels way to heavy. Modern days footballs is very light and you don't get that "oomph"-feeling people is talking about (unless it's a crappy ball filled soaked with water). As a matter of fact, if you hit the ball perfectly you won't get any feeling (other than "this is going in", obviously). I wouldn't mind if they put a ball from the 80s in the game but it shouldn't be default IMO.

Nice goals, I love the through pass in the Messi goal.

It was done with the pass button, not the through ball button.

Usually I used the pass button for long range ground passes and the through ball for short passes in 09, but it seems to work as it should in the demo, playing manual is a joy.

I played three games in the PES demo and then played one in the FIFA demo and I was certain that FIFA is the best, at the moment, by a large margin.

The demo was the code on the big screen. I dont recall anyone saying keepers were 100% fixed just that they were improved from the older version we had more playtime with.
