FC Barcelona Thread

Whats wrong with that tactics though? You do realise if everyone tried to out "football" Barcelona they would get humiliated, their a special team and you can either give up or find a way to win.

There is nothing wrong with tactics. And i congratulate Madrid.
Morinho has every right to do everything to win matches. I even quite like him. But the football his teams play is not my kind of football.
You can't expect much people to find this attractive football. So i think it's pretty normal that most people sympathise for the team that plays the more attractive football and that is Barcelona.

The 5-0 win at home is back firing now for Barcelona and Guardiola does not seems the manager to turn matches around with tactical adjustments.

Is this Barcelona a Ferrari with a sunday driver at the wheel.

younggun makes an undenyable point drekkard. facing barcelona without "adjusting to them" is quite simply a suicide. u should actually feel flattered by this approach from barça's opponents.

if u play against a team wich is on your same level and give up to display your football or to dictate the tempo, then yeah, that's certainly lack of personality... but that's not the case here.
u just cannot play your game (and let barcelona play its game) and expect to win. u should hope your team comes up with the performance of its life and also hope the blaugranas are in a bad mood..... but a coach can't base his strategy on a hope.

at the end of the way it's a coach's obligation to find and display the football that gives his team the best chances to win. no matter how we put it, it's better to "play ugly" and win than to "lose in style".

Maybe my English wasn't clear enough or people hasn't read my post as I thought it to be. I'm not saying anything about Real tactics being "wrong" in itself. It's just that personally I don't like that style as other don't like ManUTd style or Barcelona style of playing possession. It was meant to be at the same time a positive/negative critic to the different styles of Barcelona and Real in THAT match. They played opposite kinds of football. Sometimes one team deserved more, sometimes the other one.

As I put clearly about Madrid tactics, they played to win, no matter how. And I wish Pep knew how to adopt a bit this attittude against defending teams. As I noted at the end of my post, I (and this is a personal oppinion based on what I like) wish Real played a little bit more of attacking and open football (just like barcelona does) and barcelona learned to play a little more direct and passionate football (just like madrid does).

Hope it gets much clearer now.

Messi in 2018!

:D  :LMAO:

This guy's a FREAK! He's SOoooo good at Football, he must suck in everything else! lol :P

He probably has zero skills with women. :P

It would make sense but I bet in another 2-3 seasons these awards may start pretending he doesn't exist and Gareth Bale's 10 goals and 6 assists per year will beat out Messi's 70 goals for the season as he's too selfish.

By that time Bale plays for Man Utd and you will be the first to defend him, mark my words...
I remember another Welsh left wing player at the beginning of the '90's...for some people he was the next big thing and others claimed it was all hype just like Bale now...those others were mostly Liverpool fans and claimed Robbie Fowler would be much better. It turned out Giggs became a legend, perhaps the most underestimated player of the last 20 years. I see definite similarities between Bale and Giggs.

Sorry for the off-topic.

PS: at the world-cup there always should be a "rest of the world team", it's a shame that a player like Giggs (and Weah, and Asgeir Sigurvinsson and dozen of other fantastic players) never had the chance to play a WC.

lionel messi

50 GOALS !!!!!!!!!!!

31 in spanish league
7 in Copa del Rey
3 in Spain supercoup
9 in Champions League

50 goals in 49 match

Like I said, he's a f'n FREAK!!

It's like this is ALL he ever does and has done his whole life. Train, concentrate, football, play, nothing else lol.

He does have a girlfriend though, we know that much.

Nope, he broke with his girlfriend, apparently, some weeks ago. So now he has more time to focus on just scoring...:BOP:

Talking about girlfriends, look, this guy is kissing an awesome woman but still can't take his eyes off the game!

The girl in your avatar TSO is very cute.....

I like Leo a great deal. Unlike most modern footballers he has no flash car, ridiculous tattoos, overblown ego and plays the game for the most part in the right way and appears to enjoy doing so.

He is a good role model certainly for young players and those at La Masia.

The things he also appears to be focusing on will be winning the Copa and a World Cup.

The talent is there in Argentina to field two sides at a WC. Unfortunately the best coaches are not selected to coach the team and neiher the best players.

One clueless fool it appears in Batista has suceeded another in Diego.

And for fans of a certain club in the EPL to claim that La Liga is just the Scottish PL with sunshine just about beggars belief.

Messi of course would find it a real struggle playing in it and so on. Similar to the nonsense that ex pundits at Sky Sports spouted that Barca would find it hard to play the likes of Stoke.

I think it would be hard for these sides to even get the ball.

Barca do need to fill out their squad a bit and give players like Muniesa, Fontas and Thiago their chance.

complete bullshit. he's another "I'm the king" but he just hides it and is cheating people, especially kids. you can clearly see it from the league's clasico when he smashed the ball towards the real madrid fans and acted like a douchebag as a recent example. he's the good boy only when everything's good and barça is damn too good most of the time to become a bad boy in the squad of it. fucking populism.

He's not another whatever you want to say. That was the sort of provocation he was receiving from the touchline in far worse terms.

He is human and not perfect. But he is a damn sight more of a role model than most footballers the way they carry on and off the pitch.

There is a reason he is popular and not just with fans of Barcelona.

...

She is my cook amigo.

Yeah, I pretty much agree with you on Messi's behaviour off the pitch - I still have doubts about him in the field. Well, in fact my opinion is all football players are divers and cheaters in some way but that's another topic. I don't even know what car he drives! A low profile buddy, you never saw him in those "revistas del corazón" and I admire him for that as I regret Ronaldo's fuzz on the press.

However, and if you ask me what player would I mention as a role model, I will answer you Andrés Iniesta. He's a very good guy and a superb team mate, according to his colleagues.

By the way, she isn't really my cook. :(

You lucky fellow. She sure is a sweety. ;)

I do agree that all players do unfortunately try and manipulate games using gamesmanship.

There are shades of it and some of the worst really ought to be ashamed of it.

It's a far cry from many of the footballers of previous decades. No doubt gamesmanship went on then ie 1954 the cynical tackling of the West German side on the Hungarians or Brazil being kicked out of 1966.

However I would love to see footballers who do not try and be human lawnmowers when they get the faintest of knocks or clutch their heads when barely touched .They obviously have been taught anatomy by an incompetent. :P

Similarly the rehearsed goal celebrations. What happened to the punch in the air and running back to the centre line.

I cannot particularly stand it when players point to the names on their own shirts.

Perhaps they have forgotten who they are in more ways than one. It is their job after all to score.

Iniesta is a very nice person off the pitch and is highly regarded as a result by fans of all clubs. His gesture regarding the sad premature loss of Daniel Jarque in the WC final for instance has earned him the undying respect of the Espanyol fans.

I also think fans do go over the top now as well in their abuse.

No longer as used to happen a great player applauded by the opposition but is constantly abused. It reflects society I guess.

Regarding Messi Pep said he would look after him.....

Why was he then played when they were 5-1 up over Shaktar and winning against the likes of Almeria. He will burn out and his career shortened if this carries on.

It will hurt Argentina this summer and also Barca as the team as a whole looks tired.

Mourinho on the other hand as against Valencia rested several players once more.

Agreed Barcelona could afford to lose that game, Guardiola really should have given his first 11 the night off and given then a whole week to prepare for Real.

Indeed YoungGun. It's not even as if they do not lack capable replacements in the reserves. Several players like Muniesa and Thiago could slot into the side.

Is Pep really that good a coach or is it the side itself ?

Rijkaard was not a great coach either the work being mainly done by ten Cate. I guess we will only know if Pep decided to coach another side.

Very true I said that about NBA coach Phil Jackson, when he was in charge of Chicago having Jordan. Then , business as usual in LA Lakers

Barca is a very groomed and well organized ,Pep`s job is easier. I think he brings Messi on for the fans . Imagine going to watch your team and the reserves are playing. Good business all around keeping everyone happy .

But that could be said about almost any coach nowadays! What makes clear Pep is a great coach (not the best and with obvious shortcomings, but a great one) is that he won the treble with the exact same players that a year before ended 18 points from Real MAdrid in the league and won nothing for 2 seasons. In fact, he only swapped Ronaldinho and Deco for Dani Alves. And put two youngsters like Busquets and Pedro in the team.

There must be a reason why the same players that everyone was criticizing suddenly became absolut stars. Xavi or Iniesta had never had the praise they have with Pep.

I think Pep had luck to find extremely skilled players, but those players were extremely lucky to find someone like Pep. People say the best thing about Mourinho is his abbility to create a group that will defend him at all costs. That's exactly what Pep has done, but with a classier style (in my oppinion). Maybe he's not as competitive as Mourinho (for instance, Guardiola wouldn't let the grass tall just to disrupt his opponent style) but he has taken the best out of the players he had.

Yah I'm with drekkard.

Pep is a great coach and it's sad that he's not being given the credit he deserves even after all this success and turning the current Barca team into arguably the best football club ever! People start to take things for granted once it stays for awhile no matter how great... human nature I guess....

Barca has always had great players and always will, but very few will ever even come close to achieving what Pep has done and in the MANNER with the style he has done. You just wait and see... when he's gone... people will see the difference... luckly most Barca fans already know his worth and it's others who doubt him.

Most definitely, his idea of forget what we do on the ball for a minute and try to become the best off it strategy has made them unplayable in a pure football contest. The players probably idolize him which is similar to how Dalgish has got Liverpool working again but with the skilled players he has and to get them to work as hard as he does is unbelievable.
