FC Barcelona Thread

Oh c'mon. Like every team they need to watch the finances and that's a huge income.

Huge respect for going all this period without a commercial logo.

we are witnessing best football ever...at least i have never seen better in my life..

regardles the result, this barca team is best.

Wasteful from Messi (haven't heard that in a while!) tonight and after the break it seems like you settled for the goal.

no worries, Im sure you'll batter them at home.

Selfish Messi today! Yes he got the assist but he could've had a few more if he had released the ball to likes of Villa instead of trying to score himself! Half way through 2nd half when Iniesta put him through, all he had to do was a simple pass to side (Square the ball) for Villa who would've had an empty net right at center of box basically and was YELLING for it but AGAIN he chose to shoot himself and go alone like seconds earlier and hit the side netting...

Messi was wasteful today and also missed that 1-on-1 chance early on. He should've put the game beyond Arsenal's reach but instead they gave the Gunners a chance and lost the game later on. Hefty price!

I also didn't agree with Guardiola taking out Villa who is ALWAYS dangerous and will need ONE chance, I would've brought in Keita for Pedro who wasn't having a good game and like Messi had one of his poorest performances.

But Messi's header goal was on-side! Not even close to offside so in that sense Barca got screwed.

Anyway great match and 2nd leg should be even more interesting. :)

I doubt the second leg will be more interesting Sina, they'll destroy Arsenal for even daring to beat them.

Messi might've been wasteful tonight but he reserved vengeance for them last year at the Camp Nou and it'll probably happen again.

Nice to see Barca lose for once either way though.

I agree with you bro and I think the same will happen especially the part about Messi destroying them.

The guy's an animal, he can't have 2 average matches in a row lol! Even today he wasn't bad, but by HIS ridiculously high standards, he was average.

Completely agree with Zeem.

Yeah I agree as well.
No, I agree. Football clubs are businesses. But call me old-fashioned/boring/a traditionalist but it's still sad to see a bit of a club's history lost through commercialisation, given "més que un club" and all that.

I dunno. Remember Pique's out and thats very important. IMO its all down to how Arsenal approach the game. Im guessing they're gonna go with 2 central midfielders sitting deep like today cuz that seems like the only way to beat them. You need to crowd your third of the pitch and cover all their passing options. Most teams try to double up on the player with possession. Thats just stupid when someone like Xavi can use his skill to make a pass that takes your players out of the picture in an instant. If you cover his options, you leave Barca no choice but to shoot from range.

That's exactly how Arsenal did it tonight. Xabi made like 800 successful passes but I can't remember a single dangerous play he created. Messi had to do it all by himself but missed some chances.

I think that pattern will continue at Nou Camp, but Messi is ruthless at home.

In my oppinion, the result was unfair. We deserved at least a draw and should have scored 2 or 3. The disallowed goal was a pivotal moment in the game, but the most critical thing was the terrible moves done by Guardiola.

As last year in San Siro, we lost the match because instead of going up and kill the enemy Pep decided to be deffensive. Putting Keita for Villa is the most stupid thing he could have done. Watching the match live I said to my friend "This is going to cost us the game".

Basically, we don't know how to play without going to the net. We don't know how to speculate with the result. And Keita is the most useless player in our squad. He can't get in the flow of the game, he's slow passing the ball and can't keep the position. It's not a coincidence that Arsenal had not shot to goal in the 2nd half until this sub.

Wenger played his cards and went offensive and I'm glad he did that and won. I hate cowards, so I hate when my team ceases the efforts. We did it last year at this same stadium, we did it at San Siro and yesterday.

Guardiola is a great coach, really, and I appreciate him a lot, but in the big matches it seems he's never in control, either the team plays great from start or he doesn't know how to change the match. In the other side, Wenger tried suicide but succeed. I'm glad football rewards bravery. Something we must note down.

I don't want to sound too harsh to Barcelona, though, we played a good match and were unlucky. The referee didn't help at all in key moments, but big teams must be over this. Messi was too selfish, Iniesta was very poor and Maxwell didn't know where the match was being played.

Not having Pique in the 2nd leg is very important. I said before the match that Arsenal could win and we were no favorites. I still think we are no favorites and Arsenal is the only team that can beat us playing at the same sport.

Other than that... what a great match for spectators! The best match of the year in footballing terms. So congrats to fans of both teams. That's how we love this sport.

Barca were superb first half and thought some poor decisions by players and the ref/lino with some poor judgements didn't help.

Thought Messi and co were poor though and agree with being a bit greedy had a few times to let someone in or square the ball and opted to shoot, and as mentioned I thought Villa coming off was a mistake. I hold my hand up and say about a year ago I didn't think Busquets was all that good, but he's impressed me ever since, however there is no way anyone is getting me with 'Keita' or 'Maxwell', laugh all you want but these two wouldn't get in my team first XI (Celtic) never mind the best team on the planet.

Great stat that! Everybody always harps on about Messi, Xavi, Iniesta, etc. Well guess what when the CAPTAIN and HEART and SOUL of hte club isn't there, you lose! Pique isn't at his best without Puyol beside him either.

Abidal was great yesterday but Pique himself had a couple lapses of concentration which helped Arsenal.

Who are those 4 losses against though?

1. Hercules
2. Betis
3. Arsenal

When was the 4th?

So true.

People just keep on harping on about Messi and Xavi etc. but this little stat says it ALL! You play without the CAPTAIN, the HEART, the SOUL, the LEADER, the ORGANIZER of it all and see what happens? Not once, not twice but 4 times! the ONLY 4 times you lose! The mighty empire crumbles at most crucial moments! Without him, nobody performs at their peak. Pique himself who is a f'n BEAST had a mediocre performance and several lapses of concentration which cost them without Puyol beside him. Tho that might have had something to do with Shakira as well... :P lol

I think Puyol will now be appreciated even more than ever before! And for return leg, Pique won't be there but Carles will and I think he's more important despite Pique being better possibly. So Barca will be 'gaining' as compared to 1st leg apart from playing at home I think.

This tie is far from over and is wide open. Anything can happen but if anything I actually still give the edge to Barca. I think they're still favourites to go through.

Or not! :CONFUSE:
