How played affelay ? Was he good ?

To me he played fairly well, he's still acomodating to the team and the movements he has to do. Playing in the midfield in this team takes time... I think he can do well. Of course, he won't be in the starting eleven often, but we need someone like him in the bench and to replace Xavi or Iniesta now and then.

In the negatives, he lost one or two balls due to lack of accuracy and twice he didn't do the required move to opne spaces. But it's time for him to learn from his mates.

Messi played his worse match in months yesterday in the 0-3 victory to Hercules. He was slow, unaccurate and at times a little greedy with the ball....Oh, and he scored 2. He's good even when he's bad.

We reached the Madrid 1961 record of Di Stefano and company of winning streak. So we only need one victory to be oficially the best team in La Liga in all history in terms of consecutive victories. Let's hope we can do it against Atletico Madrid next week. A tough test.

Thiago and Afellay are great players that can offer a lot to the team. They both have the mental vision required for our passing game. And Thiago is still very very young. I said it a lot of time ago, this boy makes signing cesc not absolutely necessary. With Afellay also in a good mood, I would only sign for next year the best forward in La Liga....

Rossi! If you ever watch Villarreal matches, this man is absolutely amazing, and no one seems to see it?

don't worry, man. we're seeing it of course as well as ManU scouts noticed him some time ago as you know. they really must have seen something special on him and since confederations cup he's started showing us his true potential but the thing is whenever I watch a Villarreal match, he's mostly doing poor. fuck my luck.

That's really a case of bad luck. Everytime I see Villarreal, he's awesome, and I've watched at least 10 matches this season so far!

If we average our views, though, he's still a great player that could do us a lot of good, specially because he can play in the wing and in the center, he shoots and he can also do the pass and move game we practice.

I can see him fitting a lot in Mutd too. He's quite a versatile player.

Rossi was the first 'reserve obsession' I had with United. Watched him absolutely tear apart that level, when he was about 17, just a class apart. Then he came on and scored on his debut for United, and Van Nistelrooy (who kind of mentored him) went completely mental as they charged the pitch to celebrate.

Sadly, we then shipped him up to Newcastle to get proper prem experience, and their genius manager decided to bench him in favour of Ameobi. Sigh.

When he came back he had to be in the first team, but at the time our front 4 was impenetrable (I think it was the Rooney/ Berba/ Tevez/ Ronaldo time) so we couldn't accommodate him. Was sooooo sad to see him go.

To be fair, at United things have hardly changed. Now it's Rooney/ Berba/ Chicarito to get past (though he's undoubtedly better than the Mexican, same age too) so I doubt we'd bring him back. Very classy guy too, shunned opportunity to play for the US at an early age because he always wanted to represent the Azzuri, and now has. Always humble and articulate.

Anyway, apologies, just have some serious Rossi love, and a rare chance to voice it!

(also, as this is the Barca forum, are Barca fans not bored yet?)

I'm not bored, I always appreciate insights such as this one. It's been a great read. Thanks! I think Rossi is much better than Chicharito, though I've never seen Rossi score with the face! ;)

Rossi left after 06/07, we had Rooney, Saha and Ole but he wanted "guaranteed first team football" which he was never going to get so he left and we brought in Tevez.

Thanks, that's right. I couldn't off the top of my head recall. Sucked actually, as Ole then retired pretty sharpish, so he could have been kept around.

Quality player. And left-footed!

Rossi is awesome. Man Utd could definitely use him. I remember when they sold him to Villarreal, Sir Alex said there's a buy-back clause or something (though no figures were reported).... but I don't know if that was a BS story by media or actually true... come to think of it probably BS otherwise Man Utd would take him back.

Another match, another show by Messi. Hat-trick and 3 more points. This guy is so amazing that he has changed the way we watch football at the Camp Nou. We just sit there anjoying football for 90 minutes and guessing when he will score. Right now it's like watching football perfection day in day out. I hope injuries don't blow our squad, because I think the history of football is being rewritten with Messi.

This guy is not competing against the +100 years of history behind him... he may be competing with the next 100 years of football as well. Wow. Watch his statistics this season: 33 matches, 40 goals, 18 assists. He takes part in almost 2 goals per match on average. How can you loose having 75% of possession and this guy in your team?

By the way, Messi Villa and Pedro alone outscore any other team in La Liga. That's a result of the incredible pression we make to teams in their own half, so it's the result of all players running like mad men and keeping the ball near the opponent's goal.

As much as i love Barcelona's football, that last stat also poiints out that something is terribly wrong in La Liga drekkard...Every competition needs enough challengers...i would like to see teams like Villareal, Valencia, Sevilla and Atletico Madrid challenge Barcelona more...

I understand that as a fan you enjoy this, but i wonder what this lack of competition will mean for Barcelona in the CL. To be honest i don't see any problems against Arsenal, because Arsenal play the same style of football as Barcelona and that is not the way to beat them. I would like to how this team fares against more defensive teams.

Well, me too, I can't wait to face other european teams!

I don't think La Liga is that bad, really. It's only that we are so good. If you watch Messi numbers in the CL in the last years, he's done it there as well.

I don't think deffensive teams can put any kind of resistance to us. It's just the other way around. Only attacking teams can hurt us. That's why precisely I fear Arsenal more than any other CL team!

Yeah La Liga is slowly dying, 5-10 years ago the likes of Sevilla, Valencia, even at a push a team like Atletico, Soceidad, Celta de Vigo and Betis, could have at least challenged for 1st or 2nd place. These last few years there is no hope. It's only really one and half teams who can win La Liga (in other words Barca, but maybe if there is some massive injury to key player Real Madrid might win it). It means big high profile players (like say Joaquin -> Valencia; Simao -> Atletico; Fabiano -> Sevilla) are no longer going to go to teams outside the top two. If this is due to financial or prestige or chance of winning issues isn't really that relevant, the point is the other 18 teams are getting weaker and weaker.

Spain's only hope in the CL is realistically Barca or Real. With a very lucky draw Valencia or Atletico or Villareal might occasionally get to the quarters or semis. But I think more and more often you will see Spanish (non top two) teams being eliminated in the group stage; or even worse the 4th team in La Liga not making it to the group stage (e.g. Sevilla going out to Braga this year). This means that the coefficient for La Liga could really start to drop off soon. England and Germany could go far ahead and soon it could be Serie A or La Liga (maybe even a Russian or Turkish league in 4-5 years) going for the last 4 team berth in the CL.

Arsenal probably wont play with the same fear most La Liga teams play with and their pace might give them an outside chance. I agree with you that a very well drilled defensive team (of a high technical level) could beat Barca over two legs in a war of attrition - Man Utd (assisted by Zambrotta not covering space that Scholes had) did it in 08, Chelsea nearly did it in 09, Inter did it last year. This year they drew away against organised (but very ordinary) Kobenhaven and Rubin Kazan sides. Milan, Inter, Bayern - I could see these teams causing them problems.

So the whole UNICEF sponsorship deal was just "softening up" for the future acquisation of a commercial logo on your shirts all along? :TD:
