FC Barcelona Thread

No_limit that sir in your avatar was near perfect last night. So was Dani.

I skipped classes yesterday just to watch the game live and i am so glad i did it. Best game of the season for me so far. A joy to watch, im also glad that someday i can say that i watched this team play and destroy real twice!

Yes i would also like to see Athletic de Bilbao in the CL. If i'm not mistaken they have some very good young players at the moment.

Drekkard, besides Ajax and this Barcelona team there is another big team made out of homegrown player that coiuld have been among the best ever. The Crvena Cvezda (Red Star) Belgrade team od the beginning of the '90's that won the CL once was also absolutely fantastic: Prosinecki, Mihajlovic, Savicevic, Pandev (and Belodedici, but he came from Steau). The civil war in Yougoslavia spoiled it all: Prosinecki was a Croat, Maihajlovic a Serb, Savicevic was from Montenegro and Pandev from Bonsnia-Hercegovina...that says enough i suppose...I consider this a home grown team since i think they all came through the youth ranks of that club (after all Iniesta isn't a Catalan either...).

To be fair, i have to concede that i'm not always as principal as in my posts on this forum...i do like Atletico Madrid a lot...they aren't exactly a good example.

Redondo favorite than any barcelona player ever? Mmmmm, get out of this thread inmediately!!!! That's like prefering Fignon to Merckx, you know what I'm talking about! ;)

Redondo was a genius, actually. I still remember that backheel at Old Trafford... Though I believe Xavi, Messi and Cruyff are/were greater geniuses, to say some.

Redondo played a differen position to them. I'd put him in an all time Argentina XI I rate him that highly in his ability to link defence and attack with ease and one of the best ever in his role.

As for Ramos what a ****. That's the second time he has tried to snap Messi in half. Hope he get's a lengthy ban.

If I'd been a RM player in that position, I'd definitely smash the ball into Pep's face as more than what CR7 did. (that was quite childish and unnecessarily provoking from a high-level football-man)

Dunno if there's need to say that, Marcelo is a pure idiot. I watched him closely sometimes to see his stupidity, leaving the match aside. I can't get how a stupid player like him could succeed in getting a place in a Clasico match. That's a terrible injustice. Jesus Christ..

Congrats to the real Barça guys, I mean, only Catalan ones. The other ones; :TD:

If i ever stay one year there i will buy a oneyearticket :WORSHIP:

The problem is that is VERY hard getting an annual ticket. It's not "tickets for sale", only club members can access to one year ticket. And even if you're a member of the club (right now we are 175.000 members) there's a big queue of people waiting to get access to the tickets.

You can access by either buying or loaning another member's ticket, which is always a bit more expensive. But to see Messi play is worth it, believe me.

@gerd: Bilbao youth team is made only of Basque people. That's the difference with Barcelona. Our youth teams are composed of kids and boys all around the world. We've got great Cameroon players that came thanks to Etoo in the 14-15 year range. Iniesta came from Albacete with 12 years, Messi from Argentina at the same age more or less, Pedro from Canarias Islands 5 years ago, Jeffren from Venezuela, Thiago from Brazil... It doesn't make it less deserving. I mean, Barcelona is producing high quality players year after year, most of them having spent 10 years or more at the club. That's what creates our special style.

And when our style works, it rocks. Of course, when it doesn't you're up for big disasters... There's no middle term playing like this. You either destory or get destroyed. I like it.

I also like this all or nothing mentality drekkard, that why i also love Spurs, although you can't compare them with Barcelona.

Just read Mourinho's press conference, he was very fair and gracious in his defeat (but did he have any choice, the difference was very, very obvious...).

I also liked Puyol's reaction after the Ramos incident: Puyol said that these things happen on the pitch and that Madrid and Barcelona are big rivals on the pitch but that the Barcelona players have much friends off the field in the other camp. Of course it's easy to be magnanimous after a 5-0 win.

Redondo played a differen position to them. I'd put him in an all time Argentina XI I rate him that highly in his ability to link defence and attack with ease and one of the best ever in his role.

I agree, I don't think I've seen a better defensive holding midfielder than him in the last 20 years... maybe Sammer but he switched between midfield and sweeper so it's hard to compare. Redondo was robbed of a full career by those knee injuries - he can't have played more than a handfull of games for Milan at a time when he would have been at peak. Such a shame his career was curtailed, and that he never really got a chance at more World Cups, Passarella's intransigence over hair length in 98 and his knees being the issue in 02.

The football was absolutely breathtaking - one of the best performances in a 'big' game I've ever seen.

But still soured for me by the usual histrionics from the Barca (and Real) players. I understand Madrid getting frustrated, but why oh why is diving and being pricks as much a part of Barcelona's ethos as playing sumptuous football?

Guardiola should not be allowed to touch the ball, much less sucker Ronaldo in and then throw it away from him. I mean, does he think that is clever? Showing how cool he is? And then Messi, rubbing up against Carvalho waiting for some reaction...and then to the floor. Then of course we have Valdes, the slowest man on the pitch unless there's an incident, when he arrives at Superman speed to yell, push and basically be a prick.

It just saddens me. They've taken the high road with their football, but are stil very much digging through the mud with their attitude and approach to sportsmanship.

Agree with this 100%. I'll add that Puyol is almost as bad as Drogba in the 'big man going down like a sack of shit at the slightest contact' stakes. You almost expect it from strikers now-a-days but when a tough central defender of his talent does it it's very poor. Anyway, like Ryan said every single foul resulted in Puyol, Pique and Valdes sprinting towards the incident to shout, push and wave imaginary cards etc, really horrible to watch. I can understand it once or twice in a game as all teams do it but this was just ridiculous and soured the spectacle for me too. Of course Real played their part too but it's one of the only things I don't like about Barca. The football was immense.

For sure ... my rolemodel :WORSHIP:
I mean many people don't know him, even though he plays in the line-up of barca and spain ...

@drekkard

Consequently Barca should built a new stadium with a capacity of 200000 or even more or enlarge the camp nou

Last year there was an average attendee of 80.000 people. On the odd days that is open for everybody and tickets are sold (Gamper trophy in summer, mainly), the stadium is always crowded.

The fact it doesn't get full every week is because most of the spectators are above 40 years old. If there was a stadium with capacity for 150.000, the +50.000 seats would sell quickly each weekend, I think.

The right question is, when the team doesn't play that well, do you want a ahlf empty stadium? In the Gaspart era, the average of attendance was 45.000, the lowest in history.

Did anyone else notice Dani Alves hilariously attempt to take a quick free-kick during the 20 man brawl when Ramos got sent off?

In the latest edition of FourFourTwo there was a Barcelona special and there was also an article about the plans for a newe stadium: there will be no new stadium because Barcelona has not enough money (according to FourFourTwo of course).

Yes, building something like the new Emirates Stadium almost carried Arsenal to bankrupcy. Other teams are greatly in debt because of it. Now imagine having to build a new stadium of epic proportions, it's simply economically not doable.

There has been a lot of talk about renewing the Camp Nou and adding 10k-15k seats. That is the maximum we will see for a while. And there's not enough money even for that...

By the way, the pathetic spanish comittees did it again. Only one match ban to Sergio Ramos after all he did. Great, just great, as always. Surely it will have some connection with the fact that 3 of the 4 members of the comittee are Real Madrid members. They're sending the wrong message to everyone, again. Quique Flores gets a 2 match ban for saying some words (without insulting anyone), but Ramos can try to slaughter anyone and it's only a match. This is Spain.

About the new stadiums, i find it ridiculous that some teams that are in great debt with banks and other entities, go forward with such an idea. Some barely have money to pay for all the transfers they do and all the expenses that the club has, yet they still want to build a new stadium? Pathetic imo. Valencia comes to mind.

About the ban, lol its Real. George Clooney: "What else?"

the new stadium (Emirates) I think brought in £40 million in it`s 1st year. Arsenal took a heavy toll which might explain our trophy drought . Today, we are in a better financial situation w/o having a sugar daddy compare to any Top 4 or midddle table club in the league.

barca will benefit from a new super stadium ,but Arsenal had the highbury flats to shoulder in on. I`m not sure how much real-estate there is to even put a new stadium. This are different times from 2006, much different. Maybe ,if Spain gets the nod for WC. They might get the RM treatment blank check

It's Darko Pancev I think you mean, from Macedonia - he scored that penalty against Olmeta to win the European Cup. I think maybe you're confused with Goran Pandev, the current player who was at Lazio and now Inter, also from Macedonia ?

There were Bosnians at Crvena Zvezda, I think Rade Tosic was from Tuzla and the Montenegrin fullback Sabanadjovic was of Bosnian Parentage I think.

Also Jugovic played for this team and Dragan Stoijkovic the year before. Yes it was the last team to win the European Cup with players only from it's own country. If you say Belodedic was Romanian* then it would be Steaua which is this last team.

*In fact Belodedic was born in a town on Yugoslavian / Romanian border Sokol, to Yugoslavian parents but played for the local Romanian team (Moldova Nova) since there were no significant Yugoslavian teams in the border region.

Thanks edmundo.
That is one of my all-time favourite teams.
The civil war spoiled it all...damn nationalism, damn Milosevic, Tudjman and Izetbegovic...crooks.

Bit over the top. We couldn't spend what we probably would have liked. But as far as I know it didn't nearly make us bankrupt?!

the main problem we had was the credit crunch and the apartments not selling around the stadium...but we were always going to sell them. The stadium has brought in alot of extra money for us.

I think if it is managed well and teams can afford it (take out necessary loans and have no trouble paying them back) then it makes sense. Obvously not for everyteam.

By the way Barcelona were amazing a couple of nights ago! couldn't believe how good they played.

One thing I noticed about the Camp Nou, isn't the pitch bigger than other stadiums? I mean there seems to be a lot more spaces than say EPL stadiums.

Anyone has more info or do Barcelona make it seem like that? :D

I noticed that too but there are UEFA regulations that mean it can't be more than a certain size and I read that Old Trafford for example is the same size.

I thought it might have something to do with the architecture of the stands and where the camera moves along when you watch on tv making it seem bigger than a smaller stadium.

Well yeah that's what I thought but everything on the internet says they are both 105m x 68m which is the maximum allowed by UEFA.

It could be to do with the perspective you see the pitch at in either stadium, the Camp Nou is a bowl so the seats at the top are quite a bit further away from the pitch than the bottom ones, whereas Old Trafford has traditional stands which are steeper so the viewing angle would be flatter at the Camp Nou if I'm not mistaken.

Either way, I've always thought it looks like a huge pitch but recently thought about the above and that it could be your eyes tricking you.
