English Premier League thread

every season we have a team do very well the 1st half Everton,Villa and Blackpool . They fell like a bunch of bricks ,BUT! newc haven`t lost a match yet :CONFUSE::SMUG:

Exactly.

And good point Beboq.

EVERY single year, one team unexpectedly has a great start and then can't buy a win in the 2nd half of the season! Everything just goes ape shit! I can very well see that being Newcastle in the 2nd half of the season. And let's not forget, we're 1/4th into it now and not half way so there's plenty of time to fuck up as well as plenty of time to build on this successful start. :)

But if you compare Newcastle with Hull and Blackpool (and even Everton): they have a much better squad. If i were Newcastle, i would buy a second striker from one of the teams eliminated from the CL (Sow?).

Some late goals today hein! (The Swansea one completely ruined my EWP game :()

Yesterday I saw Freiburg-Leverkusen for a few moments and I was impressed with that Papiss Cissé guy. Have never seen him before but now I realised what the fuzz was about. I think he would be perfect for the Magpies.

I always liked him as a player and being manager of the Welsh national team seems a good job, this is shocking news...RIP.

Just when the Wales team was starting to do well. can't believe it! he hung himself aswell :(( Shocking.

Unbelievable. Turned on the Swansea v Aston Villa game and saw they were having a minute's silence.

Was wondering who it was for when they showed a picture of Gary Speed, with 1969-2011 under it. Almost spat my tea everywhere.

I'm devastated! This is truly tragic!

One of the few true ROLE models left in this game has suddenly passed away! I looked up to this guy ever since I was a little kid and idolized him! One of my favourite footballers as he was the perfect model of Consistency, Dedication, Fitness and Professionalism to follow!

Captain wherever he went, played well till he was 40 and that for an outfield player is crazy at that level and only possible because he like Giggs was a freak and also an extreme professional blessed with fantastic fitness.

He was great in the air, great left-foot, good tackler. Just a guy to really look up to! And yes, a bright young manager with a glorious career ahead I always thought. I mean if anyone would make a good manager, it'd be him. He had all the right attributes for it and even in his short managerial stint, he'd done pretty well and I was expecting a lot more over the coming years.

He was I think the first player to pass 500 EPL appearances! Since then David James and Ryan Giggs have surpassed him but still one of the few to have made so many appearances and played such an important part for his teams.

The man's a true legend! Set all kinds of records and was Wales most outfield capped player with 85! A true captain!

This is a big loss to the football world! I just heard the news now and I can't believe it! A very sad day!

RIP Gary! You're gone but you'll never be forgotten! :WORSHIP:

I'm absolutely gutted and devastated and right now still in deep shock as I type this. I was on the way to the game against Villa today when I heard the news and I just couldn't believe it, so many fans young and old going to the game were in tears, the mood in the Liberty Stadium was very sombre, it was surreal. I could see Shay Given warming up before the kick off and he was in tears as well.

As a Welshman and avid follower of the national team this is so hard to comprehend, Speed was a great player and great servant to Wales over the years and was often captain of the team, and as manager he was turning our ailing fortunes around and brought back a feelgood factor and belief to Welsh football that we hadn't seen since the Mark Hughes days. That end to the qualifying campaign was superb and all the talk was about Speed's team for the World Cup qualifiers starting next year and could we end the qualifying hoodoo at last. Tragically he isn't here to lead us. Just why has he taken his own life? We will never know. Only yesterday he was a guest on Football Focus on BBC and I remember watching it and he seemed his usual self. I can't help but think why why why???

My thoughts are with Gary's family at this sad time, must be so hard for this wife and two kids to take especially this close to Christmas as well.

Gorffwys mewn heddwch (R.I.P.) :(

Leroy Lita's goal for Swansea yesterday against Blackburn, for me is the best goal i've seen this season. This goal made me think about Cambiasso's famous goal in the WC2006 against Serbia. Of course in a month everybody has forgotten all about this absolute beauty.

Newcastle seem to go down before the new year, we`re both wrong I was going to say mid January ,not mid December :SMUG:

Well their struggles have kinda already begun but it's not been bad yet and I feel it's gonna get much worse than this.

Let's see how they do away to Norwich today. I think Norwich can take at least a point today and could well take all 3 points.

huh? the reason for my post is they lost 4-2 :P

I thought it was live when they were showing it here and they were showing it after the Liverpool vs. QPR (Man Utd vs. Wolves) game. You're saying when you had posted that, match was already over? If so, I didn't know but I see they went on to lose as we thought they probably would today. :P

Anyway unbeaten until a couple weeks ago and now it's 3 losses with many more to come I fear.

I really like Newcastle. For me one of the biggest clubs in England and should be in Europe. I just wish it wasn't in the hands of that fat dumb bastard. Then they would be where they deserve to be. But hey, so far, so good anyway... so far him, Pardew, Derek Lambias, all have been doing better than all of us gave them credit for, so can't be bashing them yet. I have a feeling by end of season though, fans will be upset again.

Also they have no central defenders at the moment, Coloccini is out for probably a few weeks, and Steven Taylor is out I think for the rest of the season. The other players they might play at central defence (Danny Simpson and maybe James Perch) are about the level of League One or the lower Championship. Is unfortunate for them as Taylor and Coloccini were really important players for them and both were good, Premier League standard, defenders but without them they'll struggle.

To be safe Newcastle should buy a CB in the upcoming transfer window. The last seasons they have bad luck with long time injuries: Ben Arfa, Marveaux, Steven Taylor, Tioté...

A late win in the first match of Martin O' Neil with Sunderland. I always liked him for his enthousiasm. I know for some reason lots of English evo-webbers don't like him..i always wondered why...

Another great win for both Norwich and Swansea. The promoted teams are doing splendid this season.

Poor Clint Dempsey, he had a bad day at the office: an owngoal and a missed penalty. He's a very good player.

Yeah especially when two of them have some history with injury problems and let's be honest, Mike Williamson is your typical Championship (Level 2) defender. He's not bad but he's certainly not EPL quality. He's just a decent tough defender who's very mediocre and much more suited to playing in 2nd tier than Premier League.
