English Premier League thread

Well, Gerd, I can't say I'm surprised at all because your reports about Courtois made me set high expectations on him. Those expectations were confirmed: Thibaut is all about class. If you compare both debuts from him and De Gea at the Vicente Calderón you have to pick the young Belgium keeper as the better debutant. I saw these two Atlético games and he has been great so far in both of them. He is a very secure keeper, an outstanding stopper (he made an incredible save against Osasuna in the final moments in where he showed his high agility), has good positioning and he seems to have a good sense of judgement. Of course there is still a lot of room for improvement but the first signs are fantastic. Looking forward to this guy. :TU:

This might sound weird but I sympathize with Atlético albeit being a Madrid fan. Besides, I use to root for teams that are underachieving, and that includes Sporting too! :P)

Hahaha you're the ONLY one. :P

About Courtois, plus let's not forget, as great as he's been, poor guy is still adjusting to a new country/culture and language, team-mates, league, new pressures.. etc. so he should get even much better!

Mark Clattenburg had an excellent match today letting foul be fouls at the Emirates .Webb on the other hand punished Everton every tackle was a yellow. He is too prune for Europe ... Saha got nailed near the box and let play resumed shocking :CONFUSE:

silva is a clown, he goes down crying like his leg has been chopped with axe, from tackles that aren't horrendous or anything then waits for everton player to get booked and then runs about again...

he did this twice in first 25 minutes..
FA should fine or ban players who do this..

That is exagerated, but yes Webb was horrendous. With the same standard that he gave 3 yellow for Everton, Touré's yellow should have been a red card.
IMO City were rather lucky. They took the lead with a deflected shot. Once they scored the first goal was scored, the match was played.
Everton desperately need a forward.

"Was out in Newcastle with Nile Ranger and Davide Santon a couple of nights ago. Apparently ended up in an argument with Ranger, called him small time and started throwing £50 notes at him."

Random little thing I just found out that I never knew about! Tony Pulis is Welsh! I always thought he was English.

Thought some of you guys might care as well. :P

Man Utd-Man City 1-6

Fantastic match by City. David Silva was out of this world.
I don't get IMO this Utd team is much better than the one that won the premiership last season.
I don't understand why Ferguson did not include Chicarito in the team. And Wayne Rooney was simply bad.

This must be sweet for the City fans who supported the team when they were in the old 3d division.

Good match by the ref too...

United basicly have no defence...for me personaly Ferdinand is way past it.. Jones is a joke of defender.

then City owned United midfield.. Nani was invisible..Young wasted everything.. City have much better DM´s and a true BRAIN with Silva who is simply unbeliveable.. They have a striker in Balotelli who don´t miss chances..while Rooney was basicly an AM... that left United with only Wellbeck against Kompany and Lescott...

To be fair, the difference wasn't as big as the result would let you think. When City scored the first goal, the lead was flattered because United dominated until then (although very sterile).

It would be very foolish to draw conclusions from this one match. I'm glad City won, but the difference is much less than 1-6 result would let one presume. As a matter of fact IMO United are still my favourites to win the title...with Chelsea as their big rivals. I still see City loose it, when it really matters, after New Year.

But i must admit that i found it extremely funny to see all these glory hunters leave the Theatre of Dreams (what a pompous name) before the match was finished...People who come visiting all the other club threads gloating when another club got a bollocking (you know who you are).

Newcastle are in absolute shambles right now. Fans are pissed off and rightly so, muppets are running the club and it absolutely shows.

And now you have players rejecting them left, right and center which has made this big club into a laughing stock. Erding and Barnetta to name the last two. I bet Cabaye is really regretting signing for them right about now as well. He could've done a LOT better.

Now the 4 best players of last season whom without Newcastle would NOT have stayed up will already be gone by time new season starts. Carroll, Nolan, Barton and Jose Enrique. Couple good purchases like Cabaye and Demba Ba but team is weaker than last year and dressing room, morale, everything's mad. Add to that a mediocre manager, one of the worst in the league and really a 2nd div manager in my opinion and this team is destined for the drop. Wonder what the odds are for them to be relegated this year... gonna go check.

That Balotelli boy is such a character! I still remember what he said about Wilshere when the Italian won the Golden Boy Trophy:

What's his name? Wil ... ? No, I don't know him, but the next time I play against Arsenal I will keep a close eye on him, perhaps I can show him the Golden Boy trophy and remind him that I won it.

Yes I've been very wrong in my prediction of Newcastle so far. But it's a long season to go and I expect them to have a horrible 2nd half. We'll just have to wait and see I guess.

I'm happy for Newcastle fans because it's a big club and they deserve good things, Mark Ashley is an idiot though and while it's not showing right now, it's best for him ultimately to leave the club as Newcastle deserve better.

Great START to the season though! Now let's see if they can keep it up. I'm willing to bet, the answer is NO! And they will be slowly but surely sliding down the table as the season goes on.

There quick things,

1 - "Stay classy VDV." - Ron Burgundy.

2 - Someone needs to teach Lennon how to attack, he's completely forgotten. Get Ricardo Moniz back.

3 - Sandro needs to get back into the starting line up ASAP.

I'm not sure about your Newcastle prediction PLF.
They have a pretty good team...they may well end between 5th and 10th place...but not lower IMO. Unless Pardew and Ashley combine forces and do stupid things...both are capable of the worst.

Cardiff boy. First time I heard him speak you could tell straight away... but believe it or not there are many many different Cardiff accents, just depends which part of the city you come from.

I see.

@Gerd, yes they look good right now but come the end of season, I don't see them finishing higher than 10th. I see them in the bottom half of the table but not relegated thanks to their great start. Time will tell I suppose. I can see them 14th or 16th and only 4-5 points off last relegated team.
