eFootball PES 2021 Discussion Thread (CONSOLES)

Manual shooting is dreamland for me as is the long ball.I already loved playing with the angles on crosses in 20 and the different long ball variables..Its just how everything thing connects, the better more aware teamate AI..Ball,feet..You don’t see that in a video or how good it feels via the feedback you get from the controller.
Enjoy!.👌

Is it still impossible to perform R2 goals with manual shooting?

Corrected, as in - this is still true/correct, that R2 is still broken with manual shooting.. or Corrected, as in, it now works??

This was a big thing for me, and why I moved to basic shooting. Would love to go back and play full manual everything :)

I've seen that finesse shots bug on Knight's video as well but it is not accurate in my experience. Just two things become much more important, players skills & attributes and player's distance from the ball. It is much easier to hit finesse shots on manual to an incoming pass or if player is 85+ on balance, curl and at least 80+ in finishing having mid range curler also helps. Main thing for a finesse shot is body shape and player should either be able to fix his body shape in a tight space (hence the balance attribute), or have enough space to adjust

From my experience the R2 finesse on full manual shooting has been broken since pes2016 (it actually worked in pes2015), meaning 1. the ball would always go well wide of your intended (aimed at, using L2 aiming curser) direction, and 2. there wouldn't be nearly as much curl as with R2 finesse on Basic Shooting - regardless of the player (rating) used. At every new patch/datapack, Id go in free training mode and would use Messi, or Salah or anyone else with a particularly high rating (left footed since Its easier to see R2's shooting affect going left to right side of pitch), just to test out if full manual R2 had been fixed... it still hasn't in the latest/last 2020 patch.
I remember posting a youtube clip a while ago to show just how ineffective it was in full manual:

Again, this is the only reason ive gone back to basic shooting. Players, particularly the good ones, should be able to do this every so often (following clip is with basic shooting):

I agree with alot of what you said, especially the bolded parts!

I think it's a bit overlooked around here how much they actually changed the speed and flow of the game with the passing alone, and how much shooting improved by adhering more to physics with the last two editions, and especially 2020.
Of course I can understand as well that people are really disillusioned by the pretty one dimensional AI winning by one goal with two shots on target against your ten, plus the bad positioning/tactics system not to mention the poor modes!

What I wanted to say is that I just hope they will keep up the more sim aproach they've taken lately, improving AI and modes in the process, and I also wanted to ask you @Dennis_87 how you feel about online, since that's what you mainly play?

To me, they sort of give with one hand and take away with the other; they provided this sim aproach but still alow people to play above PA1 efectively cancelling out the sim elements (even calling it efootball without a level playing field:DOH:) and also insist on having scripting/handicapping in online games (perhaps debatable but it sure feels like the handicapping I know from playing the AI).
It's a huge own goal IMO that makes me not want to touch online although I could even see myself getting into myClub, where you can play bronze vs. bronze teams if you wanted, if they kept handicapping and <PA1 out of it.

What's your take on this?
Hey mate, sorry for the so late reply,i forgot to check all my notifications correctly and sometimes they're not even showing in my latest alerts.I didn't want you to think that i ignored you or something that's why i decided to reply even if it's nearly two months later lol.

Yeah, like you also say,i agree that many things have improved over the years and become more realistic and more towards a sim approach and feeling and they are things that are important to me to be able to enjoy the game as i said before.Things like more natural rhythm/flow,less ping pong and more free and slower PA1,more physicality, more error in every aspect with correct body positioning playing a big role in everything you do and in general a more realistic and natural feel when you play and control the players and the ball etc...All these things are better represented if you compare it to the rigidness and arcadyness that we had in the game 4-5 years ago and even more recently...And yes,all these things seem to be easily overlooked around here like you say even if back then everyone seemed to be very vocal about these issues...

Of course it's also true that there are issues with AI/positioning and awareness and i can understand people's frustrations with that.As much as some things have improved, other important things have still issues even if the devs have the will to try to polish them, but maybe not doing it correctly and effectively enough. For example, there was a specific patch for 20,i don't remember now which one exactly it was,and in the patch changelog it was written that they made the midfielders to stay more back when the team is defending to prevent leaving too much space between them and the defenders and make the team more compact. But the thing is that because the defense tend to stay too deep in most situations and the midfield also drops deep to be close to them to close gaps, there are other gaps that are created in the center of the pitch and gives a feeling that there is no proper midfield play and resistance as it should.Ideally what they should do is to make the defense line play higher so the midfield will be close to them but also more advanced up to the pitch so they can create proper resistance to the opponent and produce better midfield play.

They have this idea that most teams play too deep but if you watch real football that isn't the case most of the time, even medium teams tend to play a high enough defensive line these days and having their lines close with eachother but this happens more towards the midfield area to put pressure to the opponent and not so much in the defensive area leaving acres of space in the middle, except if they are in the last minutes and try to keep the score so they park the bus.Maybe the devs are doing this to prevent long ball spamming and think that if they make the defensive line too high then it can lead to even more exploits by having all that space behind unguarded...Anyway,they should find a better and more realistic approach and balance in this field. If we go to next-gen with 22 and onwards and they still have the same logic and approach with this it will surely look bad..

I think both games could benefit in the tactical and positioning departments if they hire some real life football coaches for them to provide with their knowledge and help them to make it look more natural and realistic.Even semi-pro coaches could do this job so they don't have to pay them extreme amounts of money. It will still be better and more effective than spending money on stupid gimmicks like having Iniesta to promote the game just for management reasons without actually doing something important to improve the game.

About the online that you're asking..i won't go too much further because i already talked about this in my previous recent posts and don't wanna write the same stuff again.Let's just say that i can play with PA1 with the filter on so i can avoid the shitty PA3 gameplay that changes the whole feeling of the match,so i can still enjoy the game for the good things that it has to offer for my likings at least, even if it has isues in other departments.
About the scripting stuff,i'm not too fussed about it.My main problem is the lag that if it's big enough it can make it unplayable that's why i avoid playing co-op or other modes that don't let you see the connection quality before the game.At least in ranked matches or divisions it shows you the connection bars before the matchmaking with someone so if it's only 1 bar i can skip it because it's gonna be a total lagfest if he's too far like from Asia or South America. If it's 2 or 3 bars it means that he's from Europe so i only play these matches and the connection is at least playable most of the times.

Yes there is scripting but in most cases the better player still has the upper hand for the win.Crazy shit can happen sometimes, well many times actually, but in the long run after hundreds of matches everyone will be placed somewhere around their skill rating wise. There are good players who are high on rating and there are others who are still low rated after hundreds of matches,so if they're crying about scripting it's just an excuse and they're simply not good enough.Skill still matters in the game in the long run.

If I don't crack the finesse shooting problem --I'm happy to overcompensate if that's what I need-- I might have to go back to advanced unfortunately. My goal scoring opportunities are mostly from the sides and those heavily rely on finesse shooting.

TheTrueBrits is saying that the game is more responsive and the right analog stick is more responsive (I would say like vanilla 2020). Now let's wait for day 1 patch to see if they break it again...

So PES 2021 out of the box is the same game as PES 2020 out of the box... who would have guessed!

DP1 same as last year's DP1, and so on... 😥

I'm just catching up here but why can't you post a video? Could you not just take your phone and record a short clip? You seem very willing to criticize other people's evidence without providing any of your own (apologies if I missed your video captures).

I’m playing 21 on the X..I know it captures 10 minutes but compared to uploading via a PS4 to YouTube

I would have it on PS4 but as I’m not going to patch its pointless.Plus imo the X version of 20 was superior to the PS4 pro..

I’ve told everyone my thoughts and I could be more in depth..But it’s fruitless...It will only cause a barrage of childish posts.

I’ve already said it’s improved..My words and posts will be confirmed in the next few days.

Some degree of corroboration of opinions here, it seems.

Doesnt quite do enough for me to want to buy it though.

Konami have spent the best part of 12 years claiming no gameplay changes have been made. Hardly a surprise if they've lied again.

It's almost as if pride prohibits them from admitting anything needed to be changed...

I wonder if there is still the catch up bug in play.

According to Galvani Renan on Twitter whoever is playing the game already have the day one patch installed so the gameplay won't change, only transfers.

I thought that too as i have 1.01 version but was informed 1.02 will be out tomorrow 🤷🏻‍♂️

Could you post a clip of this because I have yet to see anyone score a manual R2 shot

A few more games played last night with 5 star teams and the right stick is more prevelant in responsiveness and effectiveness with the top players. If dribbling is your thing messi is a joy to control with salah not too shabby either. On super star i picked the ball up with messi on the right and dribbled past 4 players whilst cutting in to score a trademark bottom left corner curler!

My mp4 phone videos do not upload on here 🤷🏻‍♂️

shockingly shite, vanilla, strawberry, summer fruits or blueberry.....it’s a masterpiece in how not to programme a football game......thinking positively changes nothing...............it simply helps to justify parting with more money.
The gameplay isn't bad in my opinion, it just to fix the strong scripting, responsiveness and referees, and it's a very good game.

It would be such a Konami thing if the one time they tell you the gameplay is absolutely the same, they actually improve it.
wasnt it always like that!? subtle changes where never mentioned by konami with the patches and DP coming, right!?

what i learned over the years, is to play it myself and then judge. playing the prior verions hundreds of hours are a better comparision tool for me than any video or comment.

Yeah, but with patches they say they make some tweaks to improve user experience and you can guess they tweaked something, here they told you it's 100% the same as Pes 2020 gameplay.

And the terrible AI awareness. Don't know what they did to it, it was so much better in 2018. I still really like the feel of 2020, but too many issues ruin it at times.
