And the rule also is the bigger the game/company that would allow it in their game, the more likely for the big football licensors wanting to get a piece of the cake. It is basically a walk on eggshells.
In the end, legal reasoning does not matter at all. Open AI, Anthropic give a shit on copyright. The football leagues sell individual games to various TV providers under the guise of "competition" although exactly the opposite would be competition. When everyone buys all games and actually fight for customers through the best deals. It's always just a matter of power and interest. Tennis Elbow 4 does exactly what you put here as completely banned. There you can load mods directly in the game. This is not to prove that it is not justifiable. If there is someone powerful with interest to sue Tennis elbow 4 it would be possible. What I want to say is that in my opinion it does not matter what you or someone else think is legally correct or interesting.

You may be right on some points. But and attention only my opinion: the reason why there is no edit mode or no fake leagues like before (PES 6 for example) or offline content, is not one that has anything to do with licensing. The only reason is economic calculation. I can make a ridiculous amount of money with very little effort. Any form of offline/edit content has the potential to pull players out of the casino mode and would cause development costs.
 
And I still think from my experience that that argument isn't valid. It wouldn't drive away. Quite the opposite. Your engagement numbers would go up, your Daily Active Users would go up which makes it more likely for them to stay and try also to spend on the cards,.usually also conversion goes up

There is enough heavy monetizing Free2Play games who are centered around User Geerated Content. User Generated Content even often is called the future for Service Games and has proven to enhance the monetization in many games. So actually if it is about money then investing in UGC would be the smarter move. (Especially for companies who right now license leagues, imagine how much money they would save).

Sometimes the answer really is as simple as: too risky from a legal standpoint and not worth the risk. Especially since we are not talking one football game but all with financial backing that have come out: UFL, Efootbal, FC, Goals none of them is going in a UGC direction. And now if you think about it, wouldn't it be a chance to attract users? To do something different and have user created content? Then why aren't they doing it? Especially the newer ones that have to compete with EA and Konami. And then it likely goes back to: their lawyers told them not to risk it.

Got your Point and is think it's not the case. Deliberately missing out on additional revenue due to fear of lawsuits is, in my view, highly improbable.
Without offline modes, players are driven into the Casino, which generates continuous revenue through in-game purchases. Offline modes only yield one-time revenue.
Edit mode allows players to replicate official teams for free.
Eliminating complex offline modes drastically cuts development, maintenance, and server costs, maximizing the overall profit margin.
Konami pays heavily for exclusive partner clubs (e.g., FC Bayern). Allowing easy modding would devalue these expensive contracts, which currently serve as the main incentive to buy online packs.

And the main incentive to buy players is not the Partner Clubs but the players which most of them are covered by Fifpro.

Like I said the most likely scenario is Konami did get letters from licensors and now won't do edit mode anymore. Which is basically also what they stated.

Essentially, EA FC does nothing but focus entirely on Ultimate Team. The career mode has remained virtually identical for over 10 years, costing them next to nothing to maintain. Furthermore, why does EA FC include fake teams in the game that can be—and already have been—easily modded? In short, offline content is bad for monetization because it generates zero recurring revenue after the initial purchase. EA only keeps a bare-minimum Career Mode and fake teams as an alibi to justify the full $70 price tag. For EA, offline gaming is a dead end; their sole economic goal is to starve the offline mode so players are forced into the highly profitable Ultimate Team ecosystem.Thats my guess.

As a side not I've tried EA FC 2026 on the Switch 2 during the free trial. I played it for free and I still want a refund, what a sorry excuse of a game.
Ugly graphics, bad gameplay, weird ball physics, not fun at all.
I have to say that even with limited modes Kick Off is by far the best game on Switch 2.

I play eFootball on PC via Xbox (Microsoft Store/Xbox app). After playing on Steam for about 2 years, I switched to Xbox. Even though my FPS settings and V-Sync settings are the same, the gameplay doesn’t feel as smooth or as fast as it did on Steam. What could be the reason for this?

I hope they will add content to Kick off, or at least the reaction to it will motivate them to release offline modes for every platform. I'd love a new football game with focus on offline modes.

Yeah if they said we will add Master League I’d probably not believe them based on the free game and the promise they made for that, but I’d be stupid enough to buy the game to support the idea that it was going to happen
 
Jumped on for the first time in about 3 years and surprised how much I'm enjoying it. Goals feel properly earnt and the tempo of the game feels like football. Defending and player switching is also really nice coming from EA Sports.

I'm not mad about dribbling. Worked out how to retain possession in midfield, but can't ever properly burst away from a defender to gain an extra yard.

Any general tips or tricks?
 
Jumped on for the first time in about 3 years and surprised how much I'm enjoying it. Goals feel properly earnt and the tempo of the game feels like football. Defending and player switching is also really nice coming from EA Sports.

I'm not mad about dribbling. Worked out how to retain possession in midfield, but can't ever properly burst away from a defender to gain an extra yard.

Any general tips or tricks?

I actually did the same. Right after trying FC26 on gamepass. I was pleasantly surprised how I enjoyed a few games on it. Its not perfect and still has some issues from years ago, but seeing as where the games are now Ill take it.
Wish they could give us some offline gameplay and sold it for 30U$. It took me 30 clicks just to get to the menu with all the coin card BS.

Did you play on a monitor before and now on a TV? Maybe your TV has a picture mode calls "game" for better responsetimes?

I'm in that honeymoon period where neither me or the opponent understand the meta so most games are scrappy 1-0s which feel realistic.

I'll probably reach a point where it's limitations become frustating, but at the very least there's more potential with the engine than EA FC.

But yeah everything outside the games is incomprehensible nonsense. It's such a shame as fantasy team-building mode could be so good if it wasn't fixated on everyone having stupidly high rated players.

Master League Online in PES 2011 is still the best implementation of this.
 
OK cool I think I'm done with it now.

It's still better than I originally thought, a truer replication of football than EA FC, but I just found it quite flat after a while. There's a lack of urgency or creativity, and plays like a 1-2 pass simulator.

That is why Football Games in general are absolutly Not made for this „online“ „competition“ „Esport“ stuff. If you do like goalz does you draw the Football out of the equation. It is just stupid. The Beauty of Football is the Beauty of an low scoring Game. Unpredictability, randomnes, coincidence, errors, high complexity in every Situation. None of this you want in esports. For me this is just a missmatch. Football is about an 0:0 kap verde against Spain. Not an 107:90 in Game 7 like in the nba. In esports every Shot needs to be the same, Not in Football though.

There are some high scoring games in the WC as of late. Another thing is, even in all best PES/WE titles, on highest difficulty, you have the lowest ranking teams play like prime Barca or Real. This World Cup clearly shows low ranking teams have no business playing super teams as they get absolutely smashed.
 
Talking about Bundesliga (Sorry to be a little late for the debate 😅) i wanted to come back and revisit the facts : the deal was "normally" that Konami or any others casual football game could reproduce any "similarities" from Bundesliga, even under fake players names, height, weight : any type of ressemblance (similiarities said as a lone word is vague but we get it) and it started for the 06/07 Season:

-The Sega game with tons of clubs looking like a LIDL PES called "Virtua Pro Football" and "World Tour 2006" (it's the US this is football version : i need to check if it's the 2005-06 or 06-07) got all Bundesliga 1 and 2 under fake clubs names, and even real names for their players.
EXACTLY like it was the case from WE8 to WE10. And it was AFTER the EA deal with the Bundes headquarters...

So i suppose that the contact from EA was totally aimed to PES and Konami branch at the time : it's not even an exclusivity that's what's boring me : it's litterally a direct hit launched at Konami "the others? Yes they can, but you, for no reason, don't".
As a big Bundes fan it was my first big trauma on a football game after... The launch of Efootball 0.9 lol

There are some high scoring games in the WC as of late. Another thing is, even in all best PES/WE titles, on highest difficulty, you have the lowest ranking teams play like prime Barca or Real. This World Cup clearly shows low ranking teams have no business playing super teams as they get absolutely smashed.
I loved both system like from Konami (winning with a big team vs a lower ranked team : there's far less point distribution than if you play with 2 teams sharing the same level of points)
The issue is that even with that system, everyone tooked Real or Bayern or any top tier team and it was always like playing the Giant Killing way.
The advantage is that you could've took any team and you'll get a match, even if 95% chances to fall on big UCL clubs or WC nations.

But the FIFA system for Season was cool too, ranked by stars : the issue is to find someone with the same number of stars when you choose even a 4 stars (not 4,5) ranked teams needed for you to stay very calm and having the time for it.
The advantage was that when you found someone : you can be sure it will be more or less balanced regarding teams level and the disavantage is that you can't never play against a big team (i don't remember if there was an option to take a low ranked team and choose "any stars team" on the research... Correct me)

Dribble diagonally and use momentum to beat your opponent
