eFootball (All Platforms)

I appreciate a lot of what I am reading here to try and justify what Konami are doing but I just don't see it? Why?

Is it because PES wasn't bringing in the sales they are looking for?

I don't get this whole Mobile Cross play nonsense and I don't like that concept one bit. The same as releasing just a bare bones game with 10 Teams to start with... what universe is that acceptable?

Someone here earlier said it right, Konami = Pachinko machines and nothing bloody more!

But really, there is nothing there. Look again. I really can't see what confidence that particular interview inspires. A better one would be the later Loadout interview, though there are also issues between the framing of what Kimura there says ("gameplay experience") and what he's actually talking about (graphics/atmosphere).

Ah sorry i forgot. It's an interpretation, of course we won't get mobile visual, it's so obvious even the trailer didn't get it.
Just that chuny interpreted it in a different way. But whatever, if you don't want to see an evidence, you won't. I don't talk about you specifically. And i don't even say it's an evidence. But some things are, but i see/read a lot of reject of "good" and reassuring tweets.

Weird thing, i saw the tweet in english, RT from the official account. Well, the best for all of us is to wait.
Don't think i like that F2P system with DLC neither. I just try to say "hey, we don't know how it will works exactly", it's out in 2.5 month and will gets updates etc.
It's just, interpreting bad thing like if it's the truth isn't an issue, but good thing is. Not it HAS to be bad. Because it's Konami and they want our money (like your usual butcher or anyone who sells something, in fact)
 
If that's the case for next gen vs next gen, of course i won't even put a finger on it.
Well the beta was on PS store especially without "fitler" of choice no?
It's still expermimental. But the beta, was, yes, a ridiculous game.
Same system as the current mobile game with higher graphics, to me it wasn't even a PES 2015 level (and god, i even prefers PES 2014 than that redux version of PES 2014 with no input lag and direct play)

The weird thing is, I know people who actually played this franchise for some time (earlier days of PES) and at the same time they've got involved in that "online" myClub bullcrap spending thousands of hours in it, and I guess also "coins", giving me the same answer mostly "I don't buy this game to play offline modes !!! I don't play offline !!!" In top of that I saw others who defended that game mode like it was their life at stake and at the same time after a week the same people raging and trashing on it like it was the worst thing ever made. I mean I'm ok with the casuals to think like that and changing their minds all the time, but it blew my mind because those people used to also play this game in the past, and now are addicted to just that myClub mode. So here is the answer on why you don't see it... but don't ask me why or what made them think to purchase PRO EVOLUTION SOCCER just to play that casino mode... so just from those facts based on data collected from players, Konami will spawn a new ugly villainous baby called eFootball...

Seeing the huge difference in quality between the opening stadium shots with the cycling daytime, and the rest of the gameplay with horrid crowd animations made up of 50% identical twins dressed the exact same, and given what Kimura said in the interview about Photorealism and crowd animations, I'm 100% sure the next-gen gameplay we see on August 25th will show an entirely different game from a visuals standpoint. I think the purpose of the announcement was just to explain the new direction and branding. Horrible marketing? Absolutely. But I can deal with horrible marketing as long as there's a good product as the final outcome, as opposed to EA's state of the art marketing with a rotten circus game underneath (although this year is the first time they start changing that).
 
Just one thing, i don't know a single person who tried that beta and say it was fun or good. Every guys who plays/have played PES before said it was pretty bad. And i couldn't personally even watch a full game of it.
I don't know but releasing that thing... Only for Mobile yes, but people who buyed a PS5 or X or on PC...
Even on PS4 it's not acceptable. That's one (personnal) reason i don't really believe, well we can also believe in a relatetively positive way it's not forbidden, that we will get what we saw on vids or some people get the "chance" to play that thing on every console.

@The_Knight i would believe what you say, but not "100% sure". Well horrendous marketing of course, worst than ever, but it could also be true that they litterally abandonned it for X reasons and we're wrong / i mean the guys who can't believe that the beta is what we will get on next-gen and PC

Not only was it bad, but it was unwatchable. The ball physics and passing/shooting was off. I do believe it was just a server test though because of how important the online experience was to Konami, especially that they're (finally) using dedicated servers for the first time ever. Again, another example of the horrible marketing, but I'll take horrible marketing if we have a decent game underneath.

In the last decade, I have had so many to criticize about Konami and PES and that first Trailer was a disaster BUT I really think this whole "EFOOTBALL" thing can go in a good direction maybe it will take this time.

- we complain every year that the fixes and updates take too long, now we get a game as a service what is good
- the Game will be F2P and you just pay for extras, so why not ?? if People want ML then pay for it...
I am pretty sure that Konami will not Take 20€ for ML and 10€ for each license league... after 1 Year maybe it cheaper as buying every year full price
everyone gets the content he wants
- we complain that find opponent online takes minutes, now we get dedicated servers
- we think we will get a mobile game on NG platforms when playing online vs mobile users. set a filter for online search... done!

yes, the strategy from Konami is drastic and I've never thought that they have the balls to go that way before €A, even that Konami really fucked up the presentation. the way they go i can understand.... and hope we will be surprised!

Do we complain that PES is dead? remember there was a time where ISS was also dead and something BIG had come to us and it was also a transition from ISS to ISS Pro Evolution to PES !! The same happens right now and maybe we have the luck to be a part of something big from the beginning!

the hype train is gone for me and I know that the start will be hard and frustrating but i hope there will be a point we all look back and think "yeah that was it worth"

What here happens is the fear of change and this happens millions of times in middle and big companies and most time these changes are the first steps to stay competitive...

Yes about the marketing. Horrendous, and i don't have words to describe "the map". Neither what i saw on vids, played.
BTW, the trailer with Messi from one year ago, to be honest wasn't at least to me, super good or photorealistic. I don't see the super big difference. There's more "wax doll" than photorealistic to me. But the stadiums images were, yes.

I mean, I respect your point of view and I like a lot your videos (if you are the guy from youtube), they are top notched talking about realism, but knowing this company what they did in the last years with other franchises, I don't agree with the fact that was just marketing and they have a masterfully shinny polished diamond card on their sleeve that they don't want to show it yet because they are shy maintaining it like a big reveal (it will be the first time).
From a marketing standpoint, even if it's really bad, you will want to show what the product really has to offer from the start, if you have something to show, especially knowing that the audicence in the past wanted incredible gameplay, but instead the focus was just: it's free, everyone can play it, and you can play vs the phone guys, and look at our roadmap that has lots of coins in it... enjoy our great change...

In other hand, I'm not a FIFA guy, I didn't played FIFA for 18 years I guess from the moment I start to play PES, but this year even with their lootbox casino modes, they showed way more news and better stuff than Konami in terms of new mechanics, gameplay and game modes. Good and better marketing from EA? Of course YES, but they showed a lot and more than other years and light years better than Konami... I will purchase it? Of course not, I'll stick with my classic PES games and moded PES 2021, that will be the last PES to date...
 

How to get the first major free-to-play sports game right​



For players interested in the upcoming eFootball as a free-to-play platform, on which of course Lygaard also worked for a long time, there are some interesting comments on the prospects and the best practises for the product to succeed, as he believes "they're making a massive change", and "I really believe in what they're doing":

"Seeing from the outside, and again this is me now being not as a part of the company or any decision, I think this is the right move, this is a step that will change how people will see eFootball in the future. This is a new business model that of course will be challenging if you don't fulfil what the requirements are for the free-to-play business. We have seen over the last couple of years multiple games being extremely successful as a F2P game, but also those games are very good at creating new content, the live management of the business is extremely good with new content coming out, new maps, new weapons like Fortnite and others. Just making it free-to-play will not solve everything. You have to make sure you deliver a F2P business model around it, but also making sure that users want to come back to it, they have an interest in it. Yes I'm the same guy from YouTube. I understand that it's hard to believe they wouldn't show their best footage, but it's also important to know that they were planning to release in UE5, which uses Nanite to make almost unlimited 8K textures possible within the same frame, as well as Lumen as a Ray Tracing solution that consoles can run comfortably. Then UE5 got delayed to Q1 2022, so they can either wait till Q1 2022, or just release an 'early' UE4 demo, followed by the full next-gen release when UE5 is out.

When putting together the trailer, I believe they really weren't ready to show next gen beyond the stadium shots, but wanted for some reason to broadcast the eFootball news ahead of EA's announcements to not get lost in the news cycle. But yes, I think the next gen footage we see will definitely impress. Whether or not that will be what we get in Autumn, I'm not sure.
 
That's also one thing i thinked about : not being ready, still one week to build a trailer with what they've got, because the concurrent will release it around those days. So they feeled like an obligation to release something/even half done/ with what they've got ATM, leaving stuffs unfinished, in preparation, behind, and take the Beta game version with some graphical improvement to made a trailer fast-fast.
I never saw a so rushed and bad trailer marketing that i really think the game wasn't ready at all to be shown, and guys working there were sticked on the wall.
It's just a possibility, regarding the way the trailer was shown, how rushed it was, they never released something that bad in the past : i just thinked by logic at the first time i saw the game presentation, sincerely "Was there a problem in the process? Do they got to release that thing at all cost due to Fifa dates?"

But it's just assumptions. Also because i never saw them release a so ugly and shitty trailer presentating a new game. To me i instantly thinked they weren't ready, that's all.

Thanks for your feedback. Well, then congrats to you because you made some nice quality videos about the game mechanics that made me enjoy the modern PES offline modes even more. Keep it up the good work.

In other hand, I'm more worried about the gameplay itself and animations than graphics, because I didn't saw anything plausible that could counter my sour taste from my mouth that the trailer and those beta tests gave me, knowing that for the first time I can't play my fantasy football game as I wish. I mean in the past I was skeptical about stuff during some changes, but the core of the game was mostly the same existing a balance to the both offline and online sides, and never in the last 18 years I had that feeling that this is going very very wrong about what made PES great in the first place... hope I'm wrong, but I have a bad feeling that I'm not...

Having been used to a modded PC version PES 2021 graphically the bar has been set quite high.. That's why when i look at the beta gameplay, the reaction is hmmm what is this :CONF:.

Anyway i agree with many to assume that Konami is not ready to showcase their new installment. From my experience with PES 2021 at released vs now, i am sure they have added some more contextual animations, dribbling, etc. They were not ready when released, same thing will happen.

I respect your optimism mate. But it has becoming an insult to our intelligence. Master league fans have been saying "let's wait and see" for like 10 years now. Every year there is a new gimmick and then half the edit mode and features are gone instead.

Einsteins definition of insanity etc, etc :)

About ML, we get something new, or at least different, it's like a story now since PES 2020, so it's a lie to said it's the same every year. There were changes, and a pretty different story now. Like it or not isn't the question. There was changes, things in more, point.

Even if there was still regens and the market value issue with created players who gets an too simple algorithm taking only OVR and reputation (hidden stat) in consideration, not possible to change on console vs Transfermarkt values, the ML system was pretty different at least on PES 20-21. Don't remember that much changes on older versions from 17 to to 18 to 19.

Animationwise I don´t think it´s possible.
Graphicwise yes.
If you play COD MW with Crossplay turned on for example, some might have the graphics on high details, some on low, some might have raytracing turned on, some turned off etc.
But animations are kind of like game content, which can´t be different.

I´m just wondering....if I have the game on PS5 and let´s assume it´s graphically like they promised us and let´s put the awful looking trailer aside.
Why on earth would I wanna play a mobile gamer and accept my graphics and animations being toned down?
KONAMI is selling this as THE feature, but seriously....except for mobile gamers, who would go for it?

btw: An 8:1 win (for example) always felt as unnatural to me as some of the gameplay and animations are. Just saying.

Guess we are just a different breed of players back from the old days... not judging here.

Don't forget PS4/Xbox One (well...) gamers, i'm afraid they will gets the Mobile version, what we saw in the trailer a bit more polished with 4k and 60fps.

It's a first for a sports game, others are games that could've been played on Mobile or whatever else console. That's why it's kinda complicated to understand the system, as sports games, from gen to gen, got big changes in physics overally and animations. So i just saw it as a big enigm, that's why i won't take others games in reference to say "hey, it will be the same, it's impossible". It's a matter of "necessary" or "not necessary" to change.
But i completely believe that a PS5 can handle a big and a restricted version on the same application, we're not in 2010.

I buyed Demon's Souls for example on PS5, in fact you don't see that much a big big difference with the next Dark Souls series, except some inertia etc. but it was doable on PS3 : it's just that it was the foundation, their first try in terms of gameplay.

Aren't you moving the goalposts a bit here? Earlier you said we will be completely blown away at Gamescom, now it's maybe dependent on UE5 in 2022 (presumably we wouldn't see the results until quite some time after they first get access to UE5).

For one thing, cut scenes don't have to play on mobile, so while you are assuming that this disparity implies that they weren't ready to present the game, it could also just be a consequence of technical constraints. I think you are vastly underestimating the retarding influence mobile crossplay will have. Do we know how many other triple A games support crossplay between consoles and mobile? The only major titles I can find are Fortnite, Minecraft and Hearthstone. I've seen people talk about Call of Duty and PUBG as other successful examples of crossplay, but that is actually not the case (with mobile). I did find it funny that there is technically mobile/PC crossplay on CoD:Mobile but you have to use a mobile emulator on your PC, so you are basically just playing the mobile version.

From what I've read the crossplay experience on Fortnite isn't even that great, and you'll typically have mobile players sticking to their own lobbies. Still, the visuals, animations and simply the format of the game in Fortnite are well suited to scaling (especially since they aren't that demanding to begin with), which is pretty much the exact opposite in football games where there is vastly more complexity all competing for hardware resources. Some people are still hanging on to the fairy tale that you can have a fully next-gen game that supports mobile crossplay, but you can't and that's why Fortnite is the only game that has implemented it. Gamescom will show us a tweaked version of New Football Game, don't say you haven't been warned.

No one, which is why it made no sense to begin with, it's never been done and it never will be done. It was just a rumour by the "insider" on Reddit that's already been debunked by Konami themsleves in the Twitter Q&A, why are people even still bringing this up?

Like i said before, and two times (no one answered to that) it's not really a good comparison to say "look at fortnite" or whatever games, even Dead or Alive etc. like that.
It's the first in a sport game. And cross-gen game isn't a type of game as far as i know, you can handle low to high settings differently.
Dead or Alive, Fornite, and other F2P are pretty low demanding games in comparison. Far less than even PES 17 or 19.

Dowgrading PES like that in all area is nowhere near a good idea, yes it's a good idea to lost every potential PS4-PC-PS5-Xbox S/X players, and just keep mobiles ones.

The problem that has the most significant repercussion is that the "skeleton" of the game will be implemented and adjusted from a live service standpoint. That means they can do whatever they want with it, and if they will decide that they will not want to continue to support it you will not own it as a product (if they decide to shut it down) but as a lifeless husk. That alone is an important threat to take it in consideration affecting even the game modes that you can get as payed dlc that they will release whenever they decide next year. Those modes aren't even included in their official shinny "roadmap", so if they can say something with their mouth doesn't mean that they will actually do, especially from a long term business stand point based on the principle of online live service and their coins store...
