eFootball (All Platforms)

Also, instead of having more complicated controls, the game is more intuitive and allows players to focus on the gameplay against their opponents, so we believe that people who have enjoyed the PES series in the past will be able to get used to it and enjoy playing against each other.

I love how they are trying to spin the gutted control system as a positive. I'm sure it has nothing to do with simplifying the game for kids/mobile users and /or sheer incompetence leading to lacking the time necessary to implement advanced controls into the mobile engine that eFootball is based on.

"We're making an €sport!"

*collective sigh*

Dear Konami (and EA), football is a 11v11 team sport not a series of separate unrelated 1v1 battles. :CENSOR:
The 1v1 battles are part of the 11v11, actually. You can't make a game where a 1v1 duel doesn't affect the whole picture, and in fact is something I really feel offline PES was missing, with superstrong tackles even out of timing and defenses being too strong compared to attacking players. Well, AI players specially.

So, essentially, I am ok with buffing individual actions a bit as long as they don't outshine team gameplay, specially because tackles > R stick dribblings, when it shouldn't be like that.

Moreover, attacking in vanilla is all about first touch passing in a ridiculous level that would never happen irl. This gets even worse when PES does not have an attribute focused solely on game vision as FIFA has, that can be used to modify the searching system and how quick you see a pass.

So I don't know, I feel like PES (eFootball now) needs to focus on realism and proper game building while maintaining those intense clutches and dribblings we see on real football, at the same time they make a proper AI. They need also to make a proper BAL which values better your actions on the pitch in terms of playmaking, and not only statistics, and a more in-depth ML out of the pitch. All this coupled with next-gen graphics and more important, animations and transition between animations. Everything else (P2W or not P2W online, F2P or not, DLC prices), is secondary, cause people will pay and play if you give quality. And that is the only tool to fight FIFA dominance. Quality in every single aspect of the game.

I pretty much agree and the new 1-to-1 mechanism was the one part of the online beta test that I actually liked. But I am concerned that in all of the interviews I've seen with Kimura-san, when the subject of gameplay is touched upon, the new 1-to-1 system is literally the only thing he's ever mentioned. I've yet to see a single thing about any other aspect of gameplay. If there were some exciting new AI developments, tactical improvements, things which will tangibly improve gameplay (ie. not visuals and atmosphere), Kimura would surely have at least referred to them in passing.

So it is difficulty to not conclude that the beta we all played is pretty much what we're going to get, albeit Konami will doubtless tighten it up a bit (and obviously prettify it). But the gameplay was essentially nothing but a series of counter-attacks resulting in shots, most of which missed because they were clearly scripted to miss the target or be saved by the overpowered goalkeepers in order to avoid the final score being 10-10. No midfield, no need for tactical thought, unresponsive controls and the same bunch of poor gameplay elements ported over from the Fox version such as dumb AI team-mates with severe awareness issues, players stumbling all the time, players scripted to run the ball out of play when it's near the touchline, etc. unless you manage to super-cancel them into not behaving like clueless morons time and time again.

I've been willing to maintain a reasonable amount of hope despite the poor beta and botched PR exercises but I've yet to see any actual evidence that this isn't going to be the risible 1v1 mobile game that many are predicting. And each Kimura interview so far has made my hopes fade a little more.

1 vs 1 in Pes 2020/2021 is really bad. Doesnt matter which player you have, when the defender is standing near to the ball or in front of the attacker its Impossible to run deside the defender, Attacker is always in the bad Situation and cant get the ball

The new name of the Master League = The Academy

Renan Galvani has gotten some things right in the past, if I'm remembering correctly, but these news... I just don't buy it.

I wouldn't mind changing Master League to The Academy, afterall, Master League is dead, just like PES, I actually prefer them changing the name of this legendary mode for this new title, seems more respectful in a way, but Road to Goat? I'm sorry, this just seems like fake news to me, there's no way they would call a game mode that, it's just too ridiculous...

Either way I'd also like for Become a Legend to have a new name, since that's probably the most neglected mode in the game, one of the most fun ideas for a mode, especially since a lot of us have dreamed of becoming a football player at some point, also it was fun and polished in it's first few editions, but ever since PES switched to the FOX Engine it's been lacking in content, it's been a dead mode for years, and Konami killed it.

The information was wrong, it is Road to Glory.
I see, that sounds more plausible, thank you for the info, @Mathgamer

Though it's still odd they'd choose this name, since many YouTube and Twitch content creators use the title Road to Glory for their myClub series sometimes, still, everything I've mentioned earlier stands, I'm glad they're finally putting our dear classic modes to rest somewhat oficially now, because they've been neglected for the longest time.

Wonder what Konami will be revealing next week at Gamescom? Fingers crossed something vastly more impressive than what they've been promoting in the past 2 months.
With it using Unreal 4 engine i wouldnt get your hopes up. Very old and bland engine. Hopefully they move to 5 next year.

Me waiting for memez with real goats (the animal).. :P
Don't worry, you will get some goats memes at Gamescon next week. They will announce their new milking (money) machine for goats called "The eFootball TM"... (it's like living in a nightmare, bloody hell !!!)

Surely they have laid out plan before week leading to Gamescom ? Not enough smoke to suggest if there's any fire. Prediction before Gamescom reveal, it will be mobile gameplay (or mostly 2021) with enhanced graphics.

If anything, the name "the academy" might give hope of randomly generated players aka youth regens spawning lol.

There’s no one excited for eFootball is there? I can’t see one person, even on Twitter, who’s looking forward to this steaming pile of mess.

Konami are so out of touch with their fanbase it’s unreal (engine).

I give eFootball two years in its new form and then they pull the plug on it completely, I just don’t see it being a success at all.

We will have to take a look at the yearly financial report next year to judge that, imo! ;)
It’s a sad state the game (the genre) is in, i agree.

If it is an improved PES 21 then I will play it.

But it's just a glorified mobile game with next gen visuals isn't it so f*** that noise :Y1

The Academy even makes sense with this piece of interview from Hosoda this year ! "We plan to recreate the training of the youth teams in the game and what results they must achieve to be promoted to the first team."

1v1 with 20 players standing around watching actually sounds like a step up from recent Pes - 1v perfect tackle (body checking) A.I, with 20 players immediately running away from the ball.

But hey, it's all good, they've got Pique on zoom calls giving them defending advice now. :LMAO:
