EA SPORTS FC 26

Feels to me, like lots of things had their pinnacle days already. Videogames, music, tv, movies… maybe books are an exception.
Lately the grateful thought of growing up analog and easing into digital, with so many good memories, comes up more often.

I always had the idea of using both analog sticks as feet of the player; a bit like stick handling in NHL! 😂
Man, I could see myself taking outside boot or wonderfully inside foot curled shoots on target… 😊
ive always wonder why that hasnt been an option, maybe not both feet (still a great idea), but shooting with the stick, like in 2k where you dribble/dunk/layup/shoot with the , much fluid than pushing a button

I wonder if it's because we have grown up on a very good era or we are just getting old. I would prefer the former rather than the latter.

I find this a really interesting topic of discussion.

FC will always go down the path of making every possible kick-type a button combination, because "skill gap". I don't think this will ever change.

But this comes at the cost of a player using his attributes / skills contextually, and it removes a managerial element of Career Mode.

The new "simplified trick stick" option is GREAT, in my opinion. It doesn't feel like you're putting the game on "easy mode" in using this, it just feels more intuitive, and it could be tweaked by EA in future to be more (or less) successful dependent on player attributes in Career Mode.

With that in mind, I do wonder if there's room to add a "contextual" controller setting for all input, not just the contextual "flair pass" option that's in the settings right now, which (importantly) doesn't make the game easier, but adds variety (and realism) by giving the AI the choice of what to do with your pass/shot input, taking into account their ability.

(For example, an identical button press could lead to a Premier League striker sidefooting a shot to keep it low and beat the keeper, where the same input with a League Two striker would result in a "standard" shot that's at a height easy enough for the keeper to save.)
I knew there was something I was missing from PES! I just didn't know how to describe it properly.

I'm switching between all of FIFA 15, PES 2021, PES 2018, PES 2013, FIFA 18 and FC 26, and this exact thing is the difference between PES and FIFA imo. FIFA needs a button combo for everything, while PES feels like the players can actually think and there's some leeway in the gameplay. A driven low shot in FC 26 is L1+R2+power up the shot+then tap shoot again; while PES 21 just has me underpowering the shot.

Crossing is so much more varied too in PES, you can place the ball anywhere around the pitch pretty reliably e.g one wingback to another, wingback to opposing winger and everything in between. Not to mention the way you can bend crosses around opposing players for a big target man (say, Haaland) to control for a shot at goal.

I don't think I can ever forgive Konami for throwing away PES 2021's potential

Oh man. NHL is such a satisfying game to play.

I really struggle with the power up delay. There should absolutely be the ability to execute a last second pass (or shot). It may lose accuracy and come off too fast but it escapes the danger (or beats the keeper, in the case of a shot).

I’d also love the ability to control how aggressively you shield/jostle. It’s not binary - there’s a spectrum to how much pushing and shoving is warranted in any possession and a degree to which the ref will allow. A “professional foul” is rarely as dramatic as depicted. It’s usually a bump that’s a little too hard to knock the player off balance. Definitely a foul and rarely a yellow. But a pull the player to the floor by the shirt red card is extremely rare.

I was on the fence to buy EAFC26, but could resist. After the trial I saved my money. As an PES-Player I have tons of fun with all the mods around. Yesterday I installed FIFA23, because I want to play the World-Cup-Mode. The UI was so much better ! Gameplaywise it was better for me than the 2 EAFCs.
But PES was and will ever be better in terms of "realistic". Its a shame what Coinami did after PES2021. Miss those old times where UT doesnt exist.

With my skills my players could go straight to the Ministry of Silly Walks.
Which, to be honest, isn't that far away in some animations even now.

Haven’t played a title for ages.

There seems to be a 10 hour trail. I’ll have a look this weekend.

Edit: so NHL on consoles only?! 🤪
Same as with the UFC games, eh?!

So no NHL for me.

I bet baseball is the same… the show series was some fun on PS!

These days I’m trending towards „I’m super lucky and grateful to be born the time and place I was“! Not moaning while getting old, but appreciating what I was allowed to experience so far.

I had a weird game and might have to revisit the sliders. Basically, I played Morocco v Argentina, and lost 0-1. I hit the bar, got close, but couldn't score. Then, I tried Ghana v France, thinking it might be a bit easier and ease my mood. No such luck. I go a goal down, and then fight all through the first half to equalise, getting close again, but no joy. Ghana too had their chances. Finally, in the second half, I get a free kick, swing it in and Mbappe headers it home. But as soon as Ghana kick off, they score again in about 1-2 minutes. I'm so annoyed as if felt like the infamous script had kicked in. I somehow manage to score again with Mbappe to make it 2-2. The AI pull a long range strike to make it 3-2, then just go for it and it finishes 5-2. So now I'm at a complete loss with what do to. I'm going to change the slider set from Matt10's to Saturator's first, and see how it feels, trying to remind myself it's probably just a one off result. It just feels so difficult for me to score, and so easy for the AI. I'm by no means the best at defending, but they Ghana goals felt like even a back four of Van Dijk's and Vidic's wouldn't have stopped them.

Normally, I'd just be done with the game, but I've had a few great matches too, usually tight affairs that end up in a draw, and some that end with me winning. So now I'm just as confused as ever

I played a few games this morning, and I found it boring, not much happened on the field. I didn't feel any particular AI script, but I wouldn't be surprised if they added some, given the comments from people who found the game too easy.
After this latest update, I find the ball physics very poor, even though it was pretty decent the last few days.

I never understood how people found it too easy. Maybe they need to knock it up from Amateur, and they might find a bit of challenge

Serious question. Has anybody noticed any tactically accurate off ball player movement? For example, moving to pull a defender out of position and another player moving to fill that void. I’m not a tactical genius like Mourinho but it’s my understanding that all the back passing that happens ( in addition to giving the players a breather ) is to lure the opposing attackers and midfield closer to create space for the next line. Has anybody noticed any behavior like this? How the team moves collectively and intentionally to create an attack?

I’ve had a couple of sessions like this today - I hate being negative but some of the games were so one-paced and pedestrian.

It just felt like the same repetitive passing and shooting sequences over and over 🥴 Gutted because I thought I was starting to enjoy it, but I’ve come away today feeling a bit ‘meh’.

I was really hoping to see more Serie A stadiums. The three they have look amazing. My dream is to have a fully licensed Serie A experience in an FC game with some Serie B stadiums as well.

Completely agree, we have the return of players who have no weight , a beach ball and no more notion of variety of play. I hope that it is temporary and that they will resolve it because it is totally boring

Still decent game with custom sliders, sometimes 7/10, sometimes 8/10. I play usually one or two games a day and there is still decent amount of randomness. Biggest problems? no fouls and lack of AI pressing. Lets see what mod makers will bring this year.

NHL Legacy on the Xenia emulator is great.

For MLB, Super Mega Baseball 3 or 4 are pretty fun. You could also go with the Show on PS3 emulators or very old school with MVP Baseball 2005.

Thx. Just yesterday I was browsing the Xbox store and downloaded super mega baseball to give it a try this weekend.

Now let’s not ot the thread. Sry mods! 👋

It’s a weird one, I feel like after the last patch Authentic has became too open, before it felt crowded when attacking teams any now it’s just two through balls and you are in, it’s not bad to play it’s just not challenging at all, I’m not sure if it’s because I have been swapping between custom game mode trying sliders and going back to authentic I have broken something, like before I tapped sprint and people were on me right, now they just retreat and it’s easy to get past them

Just stated a new career, the update has deffo messed up authentic I would say, just no pressure on the ball at all
Opposite opinion here, I played today Union Berlin vs Borrusia and i noticed more CPU pressure than few days ago. However, i use custom sliders + authentic features.

Question: has anyone tried the game with player Shadows turned off (PS5)? I have turned it off and it completely transformed the game, especially night games. The player models look less clunky, animation is better and the whole visual is more crisp. I wonder if anyone else is playing with the players shadows turned off and what your thoughts are.
