Dont think its worth the money. Big ripoff. Essien has only shown in 1 season, and still has alot to prove. Splashing out so much money for a kid who might flop in the EPL is crazy. Imo chelsea is set in that department, and Geremi, Jarosik and Tiago can do the backup job for Makelele. Its not like the center midfield of Chelsea last year was a mess.

A rip off yes, but what can you do. Looks as though someone like Geremi may be sold now as a consequence. As well as possibly taking the third midfield position, i'm pretty sure JM will use Essien in place of Lampard, if and when he wants to rest him. However, we have seen Lamps can go forever without sleep. But the option is there.

I really doubt that Lamps will come to a position that he will need to be rested, also, he is not injury prone.

Yes, out of all of the 3, Tiago, Geremi, Smertin and Jarosik, it looks like Smertin will be a permanent signing for Charlton at the end of this season and that Geremi will be on his way out, Gerem is a world class player. Also, we do have the option to call back Smertin if there are injury emergencies.

How can you call him back? You just said that Smertin would be a permanent signing for Charlton.

Not now, i think that if he has a successful loan spell, then next season he will probably become permanent, this season though I THINK there is a callback clause on the loan contract.

Well theres definately gonna be a clause that stops him from playing Chelsea. Cuz thats one of the things they do to get the advantage over everyone else.
They did that with many players last season.

no idea mate, if it is soon they better sell him.

You gotta love the man.

For the sky sports predicted squad, they state Gudjohnsen will get the nod on that third role in the midfield, but now with Essien coming...

Yes, definitely, I hope he just reverts to being a striker, especially his game against Blackburn with that sublime hattrick, assited by Lampard!

But that third midfielder role allow Eidur and Chelsea to revert to 4-4-2 pushing Eidur up into strike. Trust me. Mourinho knows what he's doing. I do the exact same thing in WE9.

When i see Guddy play in the midfield he does much more of the passing game until he releses Duffers or Robbo onto the wings in which case he goes straight into the box for the header or tap in from the cross.

Eg. against Barcelona where Kezman was playing on the right wing :p, he made the pass, dashed into the box and played the tap in.

Are Chelsea seeing something that we are not seeing? John Collins don't rate Essien either:

Michael Essien is a good player, but from what I've seen of him in French football and in the Champions League, I'm not convinced he's a great player.
He's certainly not a Zinedine Zidane or a Ronaldinho, the sort of player that is absolutely pivotal to a team.

But for me, it would be a bit of a strange signing if he went to Chelsea.

Not only because Essien would cost so much money, but also because he is not quite a holding player in the mould of Claude Makelele.

Neither is he as good as Frank Lampard in getting forward and scoring goals. Added to that, I couldn't see Jose Mourinho deploying him on the right of midfield now that Shaun Wright-Phillips has signed.

Essien would be taking a gamble in moving to Chelsea

He's never dominated a game in the way that a Zidane or Ronaldinho is capable of doing.

I have no idea, I am still having my fingers crossed that this transfer would break down, i dont need another one of those self made mastercard ads that say, Didier Drogba 25M, ESSIEN 27M, beating chelsea blah blah blah, priceless.

I think we should collaborate with some random Belgian 2nd division team and all start a huge internet rumour about one of their players or something in true Blairwitch stylee.

We'll all say that he's the best player we've ever seen and claim that he's bound to be a world star. Hopefully Mr Kenyon will spend the cash and we can split the earnings!

Well its not 2nd division...but maybe we could spread the hype about Kompany, he's fantastic in WE...

Although, hes earning a bit of hype with his actual skill, still I bet we can get Kenyon up to 20 mil at least, come on he's potential personified. Ooo, I like that, make it 22 mil. :)

you may joke but Kenyon is capable of something that stupid, looking at the buys that hes responsible for, and im including Seba (lol twice) and Rio...

Apparently, Chelsea are making a reality show where the winner gets a contract at Chelsea so anything is possible.
If Kompany builds up the hype, he'll surely go to Chelsea for a crazy fee.
