Champions League 2011/12

is this the same cunt that sent off van Persie?

If we had been awarded the clear penalty we should have in the first leg, and without the disparity of tonights ref we would have a chance.

This way, there's nothing we can do.

I wonder what the hell are doing those refs in front of the goal. They can't see sh*t, I mean, how have they passed on that blatant penalty? "F*cking disgrace" I suppose.

Whatever, I'm actually really looking forward to Barca v. Chelsea.

Does anyone know which match will be played at home first?

Harsh penalty on Benfica, but still a penalty. They've been the better team over both legs, but have also been very stupid at times. And that seems to the difference this year.

Other than Madrid and Bayern, have any teams actaully gotten better this year? Lots of mediocrity out there for me.

is this the same cunt that sent off van Persie?

Nope, he's the same cunt who got Wenger yet another 3 match ban, after he went squealing screaming "don't touch me" down the tunnel.

I observed 2 very undesirable features in this referee: he whistles far too many fouls (Milan and especially Ibrahimovic realised that really quickly in that Emirates match); plus, he doesn't take any kind of criticism and gives away as many cards as a blackjack dealer. Too much vanity there, he must be the kind of guy who thinks his shit doesn't stink.
So in the same moment he booked 2 Benfica players at once (Bruno Cesar and Pereira).

And when you can't handle players' frustrations and give away too many cards, someone will end up being sent off and that just spoils and kills a game.

Unbelievable how UEFA chose this piece of shit to officiate this match. It goes to show that they don't give a shit and think they're immune to criticism...

Barcelona are going to trash Chelsea. Benfica were soooo much better in both legs... It's an unbelievably unfair result.

Congrats Chelsea, but MOSTLY, congrats UEFA! Destroying football, as always.

I liked the "Michel Platini" chants from the Benfica supporters.

Well, with a full fit squad, and with an unbiased ref in both legs I believe we'd be playing Barça next.

wow, this feels like last nights conversation already, but with different teams.

Well, UEFA got what they wanted in the first place, didn't they?

Just like in the first leg, Chelsea did absolutely nothing to prove they're better than Benfica, who played today without any CBs and still managed to be better than the Blues on their home turf.

Chelsea are going to be well battered by Barça.

Well SLB were the better side and Chels w/ 10 men advantage did themselves no favors. RM were unforgiving ! FCB are smiling tonight bet Fabregas can`t wait to visit London .

What is Jose on about:

""Let me be honest, I don't think the final will be a Real Madrid v Chelsea final. It could be Bayern or Barcelona, I just don't think it will be Real Madrid v Chelsea and we know why."

Hrm.

Hes on about trying to get the referee of the Barça x Chelsea to award him an easy final against Chelsea.

Pep Guardiola pointed out how Barcelona has been in the semis for 5 consecutive years and this is the result of hard work. Fair enough. But just look at those knockout stage encounters: every year there's controversy and more often than not it's Barcelona being benefited. Whether it's a dodgy penalty, a red card for Van Persie after shooting on goal fractions of seconds after the whistle was blown in a 100 thousand capacity stadium, Chelsea having 4 denied penalties at Stamford Bridge... wow, well done Pep! ;)

You see, I'm still waiting to see your analysis of the referee in the first leg, then, and how Milan is a big enough club to need the help of referees to beat Barcelona. You could also talk about the controversy we had to face at the Emirates last year, much worse than the red card to Van Persie honestly. Or the controversy at San Siro when we had to face Inter with an emergency referee. Or the controversy against Chelsea that year of the infinite penalties.

The fact is none of the Barcelona haters are interested in remembering exactly what happened there. In fact, in most of these rounds we were terribly affected by wrong ref decisions. But there's a lot of people that just cant stand Barcelona playing like they do.

Chelsea will be a tough opponent. I would have preferred a portuguese team, but that's just because I consider Porto and Benfica doing a more interesting football than Chelsea at the moment.

Lets hope we see a great round and the best wins.

Some strange decisions by Jorge Jesus, taking off Cardozo and Gaitan for Djalo and Nelson was a bit bizzare. The first thing to say is Cardozo and Gaitan are possibly two of their most lethal players, if you wanted a chance to fall to anyone in the Benfica team tonight, you would probably want it to fall to Cardozo (maybe Aimar) and Gaitan is always a threat with his range of passing. Chasing a game, needing two goals in 30 mins why not take risks and sacrifice a defensive player like Matic or even Emerson?

Nelson looks like a bit of a rookie, he hasnt even played 10 games for them, why not use the experience of Saviola instead or even Nolito if they wanted a bit of a tricky player? I can understand Djalo as he offers pace, and torwards the end of a game running at tired Chelsea defenders he could have caused problems for them.

cfdh_edmundo, some of those decisions are justified on our tough calendar. We've been playing twice a week for several weeks having played LOTS of important matches in a row. Last match was a vital one against Braga, just like next one away against Sporting. The team is tired. Knowing Jesus, he wanted to give some pace to the attack by sending in Nelson Oliveira and Djaló. Nelson Oliveira is, nowadays, better player than Saviola, which seems to have aged 6 years last season. He's not very explosive now, as we needed since we were one man down. Cardozo is a target man, he won't move much...he's much more positional, and having fast forwards could be more effective...as it proved it. Of course that meant a more risking match (chances on both sides).
Jesus prefered Djalo over Nolito this time...
I thinking that taking off Matic would ruin Benfica defensively. With the red card shown to Maxi Pereira, Witsel went to his position so Matic was the only real defensive midfielder... it would break the game too much.

I think Benfica players and Jesus were excellent tonight... We can't say that for all the teams on the pitch.

I wish you would be honest its a little insulting to think Chels has a chance to get past FCB . Chels needs every point in League, they play;
Tuesday (H) FCB.
Saturday (A) Arsenal.
Wednesday (A) FCB.
That is a lot a ground to cover from those games in a weeks time.
Chels are starting to gel ,but no where near where they should be imo. Chels shot themselves by letting Nick go and FCB will not take them lightly at the semi rounds and how they keep getting the 2nd leg at home is just very fortunate.
