Champions League 2011/12

apoel - madrid

it's a joke of match...bah....

Real madrid in Gift Semis...

Why the hell do you say disrespectfull things like that?
Give teams like Madrid and Barcelona the budget of Apoel and they come nowhere as near.
Do you realize that if you want matches like that never to be 'jokes' you have to divide money in a fair way, which would mean that your beloved Barcelona would have a much smaller budget?

The joke is on teams like Olympique Lyonnais and Shakthar Donetsk who have much bigger budgets and were eliminated by Apoel. I didn't mention Porto because Porto also have a modest budget.

Yeah that's ridicolous.
Imagine Barca would have to play against Apoel and would have won maybe 4:0 or 5:0 - than he would have written something like: olla - barca on their way to defend the title, great game last and incredible goals...
oO

I am totally with you Gerd. I like to see "smaller" teams to reach KO-Stages in CL and EL. Of course normally this means that they will be eliminated "easily" by a big team, on one side - someone has to play against them ;) and it has not to happen all the times, that such teams are "lost" against the major teams: remember the final in 2004.

Also APOEL had to take out one of their better defenders, Oliveria, after 15 mins as he hurt his ankle. He was a real organiser of that team, and it meant instead of bringing on a fresh defensive sub after around 60 mins (which is what they have been doing in tight CL games in the past) they had to already use this option up in the first half.

It's like if you take a team such as Tottenham and give an injury to Ledley King after 10 mins and make them bring on say Dawson, it gives them a big disadvantage, espcially for APOEL against Real Madrid, as this was a game where the Cypriots were going to have to be defensive and absorb a lot of Real Madrid's pressure. 3-0 looks like a big score for Real, and probably the tie is now over, but it was 0-0 as late as 70th minute, so I think you cannot really call them a joke team. Also Manduca (Brazilian winger) was red carded vs Lyons so again this was a big threat that was missing, and teams like APOEL just dont have the depth of cover of other bigger squads

Of course that shaktar and lyonnais are worst...

But, is the true

the match was a joke..

Apoel - O kicks on target in her stadium
Real Madrid 80% possesion, 3 goals
0% burn energy

If that match ended 0-0 I would say that this was example of perfectly organized defence. Now, it is not perfect, but great defensive play from APOEL. I think they were trying to have 0-0 on their home ground and than try to draw at Bernabeu with goals scored.

@Ronaldinho When Barca wins with more than 70% of possession and without conceding a shoot on goal, is that a joke than?

obviusly

If Barç Play with Apoel, or teams of same level..normally barça scored 3,4 or 5 goals...

But barça have 70% possession front madrid, manchester etc...

not problem...Was the normal..

I'm bracing myself for a loss. I think it's pointless to think we won't concede. We have a good track record for this stage of the competition, but lately, we've been lacking something. Seedorf is expected to start, and I think he can make the difference for us tonight with his experience and composure.

I think the only way to get a result is to rely on courage, especially with a depleted back four and missing Van Bommel. Abate and Thiago are huge losses, but there's nothing to do but put our faith into Mexes/Nesta, Bonera and Antonini.

We just have to be confident to play our game, and remember that we've already scored 4 times against Barca this season.

If there is one team that can play a result it is Milan, Stef.
I agree that defensively the fact that Van Bommel and Thiago Silva are missing is indeed a huge loss. But still, Milan is (together with Man Utd) the most clever team in the world, regardless their coach and their players...
I hope it's a good match and that nothing will be decided before the second leg.

All in all i think you are too pessimistic.

If you think about it gerd, the only team that has stopped Barcelona in the CL was Inter. That was when Barcelona had the weakest side of their golden era, and when Inter had the most enduring physical team in the world, and when Barcelona had to travel by bus, and when Inter were lucky with some calls at the Camp Nou.

I'm just hoping Milan put on a good fight. Not expecting much.

Agreed with Zeem. Gerd, I'd like to be more hopeful but in my experience in the last few years, this is what will happen, exactly like at the Emirates:

- We concede within the first 15 minutes
- We fight back to draw
- We celebrate the draw as a positive result when everyone knows we're screwed
- We get thumped at the Nou Camp

Even Milan fans struggle to consider themselves world beaters like the Ancelotti era. Once upon a time I would be so confident and truly believe we could take on anyone, but those days are in the past now and I can only hope for the best. Sadly, we don't have a good sense of organisation that Ancelotti established in the team - and after he left, I truly realised how incredible he is as a manager.

this is the only JOKE on APOEL vs Real match
Ailton joke with Real players ;)
YouTube - Apoel Nicosia vs Real Madrid - Ailton Almeida dribbles Real's defenders.

i did bet (1) for Milan today , bets are crazy give 4 for Milan and 1.70 for Barca , its joke how low its for barca and so big for milan , thats only reason why i play (1) :P

and i also will do tifo for Milan all tho i really dont like them for nothing but yet better than support barca :P

Mesbah its going to play ? his 1st match ever on CL was really bad vs Arsenal , damn if he play he'll be in place where messi play ..... :/

3 players left Arsenal and all won the CL w/ Barcelona . Fabregas joined this season I will say a 4th player will win it.

We beat them 2-1 :DD

I agree with you on Ancelotti Stef...
The fact that he won the EPL with Chelsea was a gigantic achievement...the fact that Abamovich sacked him shows that he is clueless.

Milan - Barcelona..

without thiago,pato,abate... hard match for milan...but, boateng-robinho-ibrahimovic are top

Anyway, this will be my last until post-match. I can't help but feel that we'll lose or get an unfavourable result, but I want us to put on a good show for the good of Italian football and for the good of Milan. Our 76,000 fans are sure to put on a good show.

FORZA MILAN.

I hope Milan get a decent result so that the second leg is competitive, but I just don't see it today.

I think Barca have been a bit disappointing so far this season by their outrageously high standards, and they'll view this match as a means to get some retribution. Maybe if Thiago Silva were in there I could see Milan restricting Barca to 2 goals, but without him...

Thinking 3-1 to Barca, possibly with a relatively early red card for Milan (is Van Bommel starting...?)

No van Bommel but Mexes is more than ready to take that red card.

Ancelotti had a team of world class players playing as a team. Allegri has the team working as a unit. Despite of all these injuries, the team is still winning and playing the same style. But Allegri is missing the superstars Ancelotti had. Ben mentioned it in the Serie A thread. Just imagine that defence of Cafu-Stam-Nesta-Maldini.

Is Boateng back?

Without Thiago, Abate and whoever else is out injured, might be all too easy for Barca.

Be nice if they didn't win though. For me it's still a massively foregone conclusion that Barca are gonna walk this years CL, I'd just want to have a little faith that it isn't.

Good luck for all milanistas, hope to see a great match as in the league round! IF someone can beat us is a big team like yours!

Robinho should be accepting gifts like that (The miss in the opening moments of the game).

Should of been a penalty on Sanchez there.

The pitch is killing the show a little. Great first half of football, it could easily be 2-2 by now. In the alexis play, i see penalty before, when the defender tackles him from behind and makes him miscontrol the ball. He tried to carry on and then lost all the advantage.
