Champions League 2011/12

Blue is the colour, football is the game
We're all together and winning is our aim
So cheer us on through the sun and rain
Cos Chelsea, Chelsea is our name.

I'm at work and can't see it here...and to be honest what a stupid reply. If you can't admit that this is one of the worst things that can happen on a football pitch, then (with all due respect) you are hopelessly biased. I would have said the same thing if it was a Spurs, a Genk or a Palermo player by the way...

You do like to make assumptions don't you? The only thing i've ever said about the incident on these forums was this, let's time travel back to 2 March 2011 a week or so after the only bad foul in the history of football:

"Luiz obviously should of gone, his challenge on Hernandez was surely every bit as bad as Rooney's on McCarthy. Anyway all it does is further prove that the consensus we're the only ones to get decisions are way is false."

Rooney only got away with that foul because of stupid rule the FA have in place, in which if the referee sees the foul, they cannot apply additional punishments.

I just think it's a strange example and it's not the first time you've brought it up and it probably won't be the last, so I posted the video for you to bookmark or something.

Sorry for the off-topic rubbish.

I'm sorry i don't remember a single thing about that quote about Luiz. I could have been that we have discussed this before, but i honestly don't remember that.
I referred to that foul because it's the one i will remember a long, long time as being way over the limit. Rooney is a fantastic player and i don't hold anything against him. I see that foul as some sort of benchmark, the kind of act that should get punished no matter what stupid rule exists and no matter who committed it.
Let's stop this discussion because we are clearly on an entirely different wave length. I respect you and i promise you that i will not mention this foul again. The fact that i mentioned it was far less intentionally than you think it was. But like i said: i won't bring it up anymore.

Here the results of the drawings:

Apoel Nikosia - Real Madrid
Olympique Marseille - FC Bayern München
Benfica Lissabon - FC Chelsea London
AC Mailand - FC Barcelona

Good result for Real and Bayern, the two other matches are two hard ones I think.

How are we allowed to play a team we already played in group stages again?! Boring.

The draw is only "protected" in the first knock-out round, the one that was just finshed this week. In this round (just gone) you cannot play:

- Team from same country (e.g. Milan - Napoli would not have been allowed)
- Team from prior group (e.g. Milan - Barca would not have been allowed)

Once you go to the quarter final stage there is no protection and it's totally open. Still there is a good "city" omen for Milan, in 2010 Inter were in the same group as Barca and drew and lost to them, then in the knockout (semi not quarter) Inter beat Barca.

Sooner or later you gotta face the best. I hope Milan put on a good fight. I assume Pato should be ready for this game. I'd prefer him to Robinho.

Barcelona, Real, Bayern, Chelsea advance.

Barcelona - Real/Bayern final.

Real got lucky again, whole Champions League 2011/12 so far for them is a JOKE! CSKA, Dinoma Zagreb, Ajax, Apoel.. oh cmon.. I hope they get Bayern, either way its going to be a great final.

Makes me wonder did Perez put his hands on this year referees, La Liga referees favoring Real and now Champions League road is pie of cake... well I guess its just good luck for Real, but I'm not happy at all. Good luck to APOEL.

Milan you can't do it.. this time it will be even easier for Barcelona.

We're not beginners :SMOKIN::SMOKIN:

So, Nikosia vs. Benfica in Munich - it had to happen eventually.

For the Benfica presence, it wouldn't be much of a rarity. It would be the 8th time in the final (just on Champions League). How many other clubs can be proud of that? I tell you: Real Madrid, Milan, Liverpool, Bayern Munich and Barcelona. ;)

About the draw...quite interesting to see all underdogs facing the 'best' teams, starting at home. Which are the odds? Oh, and Real Madrid on one side, and Barcelona on the other. Surprising :)

I think it's a 50/50 against Chelsea. We are both strong teams at home, Chelsea looks to be improving but Benfica usually gets nice results against english teams. It won't be easy, but I think it's possible. It all depends on the first match. It will be vital not to concede. If we win it 2-0, I think we'll have a big chance of going through, since we usually score away from home.

I don't want to see a final Real-Barca. Hope Real gets eliminated before the final (as i prefer Barcelona). But i wouldn't mind an underdog final (Benfica - OM, which is impossible because OM are the weakest team).

I know there is no chance in hell, but i would like Apoel to beat Madrid.

I think the draw is interesting and the Benfica / Chelsea match can go both ways really.

Milan has some chance as well but overall I'm pretty confident about Real, Bayern and Barca making it to semi's. Then Benfica vs. Chelsea anything can happen and either team can go through just like Chelsea vs. Napoli and Zenit vs. Benfica which were pretty close ties.

Hahaha true and look what happened to all of them one by one!

Like I said, for me, the Benfica vs. Chelsea game is the only one I don't know who will come out from and if anything I slightly favour Benfica and give them 55% chance.

Andre, i don't read necessary any disrespect in Drogba's reaction.
One could have made the same reaction in Benfica's clubhouse: relieve that they don't have to play Madrid or Barcelona. That doesn't necessary means disrespect.

This said, i agree with you that there is a certain arrogance around English football clubs, their fans and the very average national team. Give Benfica, Porto, Ajax and countless other teams the budget of English teams and they will do at least as good...

But i have to say that for example the reaction of most Man Utd fans when Athletic de Bilbao went through in the Euro League was class...they congratulated them.

For sure Gerd, I read their comments and they were very very classy towards Bilbao. However, I've been with some Citizens in Lisbon and guys thought Sporting would have been an easy task. On the other hand, they are funny as hell, drinking and signing all long!

I don't think Drogba meant to be disrespectful towards Benfica. I just found odd that he had that kind of reaction in front of camera.

So , If, Arsenal would of beaten Milan we would face Barca not 2x but a 3rd time ! Thank God me and Drekkard won`t be at each other throats. Well, just have to wait next Year! if Arsenal get 4th spot that is :COAT:
