Arsenal Thread

Well after today United will be missing Rooney for 2 more league matches, so that's gotta help your cause! Plus, knowing Rooney, he might go into huffy mode and be crap for the rest of the season.

(and yes I'm still very bitter that the FA are going to tell United about an hour before the Chelsea match, and I wouldn't be surprised if the 3 'mystery' members of the panel that decide his fate represent Chelsea, Arsenal and Man City either)
 
I have the impression that Wenger is too nice for his players, that he is some sort of benign father figure for them.
Ferguson is much more demanding of his players.
Wenger is the nicer human being, but i'm afraid that Ferguson is the better motivator (although i personally would never be able to produce under a manager like Ferguson, i would hate the hair dryer treatment...but i'm far from a world class football player...).

so, jonney, if wenger makes changes in the summer, would you still be for him leaving?
if these quotes are true, then it is obvious there will a little clean-up done after the end of the season.

we'll see.

wenger desperately needs to wake up and throw away the weeds from this crop. the fact that some players underachieved doesn't mean his whole philosophy is rotten. it was predictable that some were getting old/worn-out by injuries or simply would cut it. it was expectable and evident way sooner than wenger's stubborn belief in them would let him to see. but it's the same stubron belief which produced some real gems. this wengerish strategy was great in times that anyother club might aswell plummeted in the ranks. more over, now we have a great team that can be filled in and turned great.
the last couple of weeks have been depressing, i don't need to repeat what others said. but, let's not forget that we are progressing from the last seasons. we finished 4th, 3rd, 4th, 3rd, now at least 2nd. sure the other bigs have been poorer than usual, but we've been playing better and we looked more in control of our matches (when in form; i always remember the city game home, even though we didn't win).

i think if wenger sorts the squad out, we will be even better next season. and he should be tougher with the players, i too feel he's like a warm father, but he needs to get his belt out now.

did you guys, saw adebayor last night? i hate his doing so freaking well...bastard. :) he is good, though it shows how good delivery helps that type of player, the type chamakh is.

if we win sunday, things will look brighter.

one last thing. i might be wrong, but the fans at the emirates don't really push the team like you see in other stadiums, it's like everybody waits to be enchanted by some slick game play. through better or worse, eh?
 
Yes, grounds like Anfield and Old Trafford are louder than the Emirates, I don't really know the reason, but that's what we see on TV at least. However, having watched a few matches inside the Emirates, I still think fans create a fantastic atmosphere there. But what we saw last weekend is unusual and abnormal. The crowd was clearly bewildered by the team's lack of edge and urgency. The players looked too apathetic and casual on the ball. Of all people, Arshavin had a better attitude showing effort, who would've thought! Also, Wilshere is the one taking responsibility, taking the team forward, a 19 year-old!... The others casually pass the ball aside, as if they're shying away from responsibility. But Wilshere is too young, he's more likely to make mistakes (like that incredible missed chance inside the box when he was unmarked).

I think Wenger has to kick some arses out of the club. Denilson, Diaby, Rosicky, Almunia and Clichy all must go. Their time's up. I would consider booting Bendtner too. Why keep him and Chamakh both on the bench? Let's raise money.

But the most crucial point is changing philosophy and mixing more our players in terms of experience and physical strength.
First of all, be a real man and field 2 real center forwards (in that case, we keep Bendtner). And bring in more power to the midfield, some workhorse who can partner Song or back him up.

This current Arsenal team is ridiculously unbalanced. We have players trying to do what they're not supposed to be doing! Arshavin for example, never played as a midfielder prior to Arsenal career. No wonder he's demotivated. The way I see it, he's being played out of his position and getting a lot of stick for not covering Clichy (who, BTW goes forward very ineffectively and when he stays put, can't defend for his life anyway).
Wilshere sometimes has to play as DMF! The same goes for Ramsey and even Nasri!

I'll say it again: Wenger is wasting gems in this team. There are rotten apples and there are special guys like Nasri, RVP, Fab and Arshavin. The latter two might be leaving the club soon in frustration. But please don't let it happen to up and coming talents like Wilshere.
 
Emirates crowd are really good just after we have scored or have done a good move. then they can be amazing. All the bits in between not so great. People seem to just want to watch the football more than sing. I can't say anything though because I am the same, I never sing the whole way through a match.

We maybe need a group of seats where they are less money to sit in but you have to have a drum and sing all through the game :DD then it will get the crowd going alot more.

The way I am feeling and the way Wenger is talking, to be honest I think he himself is getting fed up of some players and is realising they are not fulfilling their potential. I think it will be a big summer, we will just have to wait and see though.

Again I think we just need more quality periphery players, Denilson, diaby, Rosicky and Bendtner (all though I like Bendtner) just aren't doing it. Clichy is pretty much definately off. But it is obviously hard to get periphery players as they wont be world class and if they are good, won't want to sit on the bench.

Main players I would get a Solid defender a defensive midfielder and maybe another striker, depending if Bendtner goes. Also a left back when Clichy goes. Myabe a good utility player for the bench.

It will be interesting anyway :))
 
yep, the thing is this 4 3 3 is obviously built around cesc and the other youngsters. maybe it will be good to move to a 4 4 2, but if cesc partners song he would be limited and if a workhorse would be fitted in the attack might suffer... and where would cesc go then. it does puzzle me this thing. also, if vela returns it would be chamakh - rvp and the sub duo bendtner - vela.
it is frustrating to see chamakh wasted on the bench or when played not served properly.
but i don't think wenger will go so drastic as to change the formation even. this formation favors the very style that is arsenal. as bobby says, the team just needs some additions, vital ones, but not a total revamp.
surely a keeper is needed, and a defensive midfielder, i don't think wenger will be going for a center-back. knowing him, he thinks with vermy returning all is well.
who would replace clichy? gibbs or armand traore?

I would like Gibbs to be our left back, but at the moment he is too injury prone to rely on, so we need another quality one.

You might be right about the centre back. I think Vermaelen and Djourou would be great with Koscielny as good back up and maybe somebody else? as scillaci doesn't seem to fit with anybody.

He wont. thats why i want him to go. because i gave up believeing in him that he one day will get 3 world class players in our side. It wont happen. if it does then ok he should stay but we have been here before for 6 years saying "what if he buys" he still hasnt and still thinks Denilson is the next fabregas.
 
Maybe AW will change things around. We've had all those constraints financially, so of course he wouldn't have the big names pouring in like Chelsea does.

However, I think Wenger's greatest problem is as a tactician. I think he's been blown away tactically, he looks beaten, obsolete and cluless.

I said it before, he's become far too predictable. Even weaker teams get all their 11 behind the ball and keep us at a harmless distance and we cannot create tons of opportunities like it's been suggested in this forum. Blackburn dealt with us fairly easily, TBH. They got reduced to 10 men in a harsh sending off and almost walked away with a victory, come to think of both Almunia's cock ups.

I know it's a rough patch the team is going through right now, so our negative opinions are amplified. But I still think Wenger is obsolete, predictable and lacks daring.

the team seemed to go downhill after the final and barca. and there were one match that we could handle and another that shouldn't affect us much.
anyway, song is out for this match.. cooome oon 4 4 2. denilson would be useless so why bring him on anyway. put chamakh instead.
p.s.: rentboy, i think wenger's stubbornness blinds his tactician eye.
 
We should get Srna as left-back from Shakthar, a goalie, central defender, and a proper alternative for Song when he's injured or not performing.

Also, if Cesc wants to leave we should let him go and replace him with Gourcuff or some other commanding midfield.

And more attacking options are always good. Eden Hazard, Gignac, etc.
 
Srna will not leave Shakthar for Arsenal.
I'm not sure about Gignac.
Hazard is realistic because he loves Arsenal, but if he comes he will see Arsenal as a step up to the club of his dreams: Real Madrid. So if he performs well with Arsenal, he will certainly leave.
 
Srna is a right footed right back. Shakthar's left back is Raț, a better crosser and shooter than clichy, but not really good on the defence, it's not a real possibility.
 
so we won. i don't have much to comment since i didn't see the match. but i was looking at the league table and we got the 3rd best defense in the league, better than utd's. well, this shows that maybe we're inflating some of our defensive issues. non the less, there still is a fragility that you can feel and see, imo.
seeing the scorers, how about that eboue and of all people diaby. did they woke their ego's and fighting mentality? makes you think that hey look they can. but this should change much on their regards, one or two goals don't equal rest of the season of uselessness.
 
good away win against a team fighting for their lives. Sounds like we should have had a hatful by halftime though and then made it difficult for ourselves.....sounds familiar :ROLL:

In the next 4 games we have Liverpool, Tottenham, Bolton and Man United. This is the real test, if I am honest if we end up winning all of them I will be amazed.

But it is still doable! :DD
 
I felt we had a slow start to the match Blackpool were attacking everywhere. We just soaked up the pressure and score some effortless goals . Well, Eboue`s had a little bit of ball control before slotting it past the GK on this weak foot mind you.

Nasri needs to pass the ball more this PFA award is making him work more for himself then the team, all imo . Cesc had a very good game that is refreshing to see. 3pts and closer to the top and away from Chelsea :P
 
I don't know what happened to Manuel, but with Jens between the sticks I felt much more at ease to be honest. He has this commanding presence and transmits much more confidence to the defence.

Like Bobby said, it should be a mauling by halftime. Instead, we almost suffered an equaliser in the 2nd half before killing the game off with the 3rd.
This set of current Arsenal players tend to make things difficult on themselves and this is a chronic problem. The problem is deeper than having a suspect defence. It is an attitude issue really. Arshavin once again looked like he couldn't be bothered, that's a shame cause I thought he was sorting his attitude.

It's 3 points in the bag, but I'm not fooled. The same problems are still there. This Blackpool team is very different from other bottom table teams. They are cheeky as hell and actually throw themselves on offence to play some nice football. That's why they were caught with their pants down a handful of times. Having said that, it was more down to that rather than Arsenal's full credit. Goals were scored on the counter.

But had it been a side like Stoke or Blackburn sitting at the back, 11 men behind the ball, I could see us having the same old problems to create chances and converting them into goals.
Today there was still a hell of a lot of fancy passing and too much freaking ceremony to shoot the bloody ball on goal. RVP and Diaby should've added 3 more goals to Arsenal's tally.

This is concerning, I'm still very worried and not expecting the title to come. The next 4 games will be crucial and the team needs more. Much more than today's display.

Srna is not Right back, even Right midfield for Shakthar and Croatia i think...
 
Kroenke is taking over Arsenal. Bound to happen I am just glad its not the Uzbekistani bloke, forgotton his name?.... Usmanov?

So we will be owned by an American, but he seems like he really does have Arsenals best interests at heart....but we will see :)) he has been on the board for the last few years, so I doubt he will rock the boat....if he dos lets hope it is in a good way.

Alisher Usmanov. The one who wanted to spend heavily, Abramovich-style.
Stan Kroenke seems to be one from the "spend wisely" school, but let's not get carried away just yet: look at Liverpool when they were owned by Americans. "Spend wisely" could turn into "don't spend on proven players and run away with our money" school.
I hope this isn't the case. He does own other sports club, however none of them enjoy notable success.

Usmanov may have spent alot of money, but he struck me as being not a very nice man and would have been in it completely for himself.

Kroenke respects the club and has been working with the board for the last 3 years or so? so that means alot I think. He also isn't buying the club with alot of debt/loans so that is also good news.

MLS team just won the title, NFL team won superbowl only team that hasn`t won was NBA Nuggets and that was spending big on Allen Iverson and Camelo . Rumors has it Kroenke said get Allen here whatever it takes.His missus is richer than him too must be nice. As long as he doesn`t borrow money to buy the club he should sell one of his clubs. According to the sport world in the US he is a shadow. He owns one of the biggest Sporting Goods across the US "Dick`s Sporting" Missus is part of the Walmart family to think Hillary Clinton work on the board of Walmart.

But!I sort of like the fact we`re not own by one person ,but a large entities.
