Arsenal Thread

Only saw him play once or twice and he was very good but that price does seem too high to me as well because he has only had ONE good season after all. $8.5M is what I thought Lorient were after and Arsenal not willing to pay initially as they had only offered around $5M apparently. And even $8.5M seemed a little too high to me.

Well 2 actually but first one was in Ligue 2. Then Lorient fought off some other Ligue 1 clubs and picked him up for around like $1M I think and now after a nice season, they're selling him to Arsenal for 10 times that much.

He's young for a CB though and I guess Wenger really rates him as he's been keen on him for months and is willing to pay this much.

But if this is his price, I wonder how much someone like Adil Rami (Lille) would cost then!

Arshavin has shrunk in the wash.

The pictures gone, it was there before!

It was Valuev the 13ft, 96 stone Russian boxer who David Haye beat (the one with a garden wall boulder for a head).

Pic is still showing here, oh well!

Not the same as yours, Bobby but you get the idea :)

Fabregas has also admitted he has been frustrated at being left on the bench for the finals, with Xabi Alonso, Sergio Busquets and Xavi filling the central midfield berths for Vicente del Bosque so far.

"I always want to play. I'm not used to sitting on the bench and I want to be playing at this World Cup," he said.

"I'm always competitive at everything - even on the PlayStation. But that's my desire to win and I have that even in training.

fab thinking of staying

Schweiny said before the world cup that he might move away from bayern...I can see him fit into that fab spot, he really found is real position this year playing in the middle for germany and bayern...he's pretty well rounded now but might cost a bit too much...what yall think?

I do think he will get quite a few games at Barcelona though. But he will have to get used to coming on as a sub for quite a few games I would imagine.

But I think the draw of his family and friends etc will be too great for him.

Football wise at the moment it makes sense to stay with Arsenal (he is the captain and is extremely important to us) at least for another season if not two. But there is alot more to life than football.

At the end of the day if he moves now he will play for Barcelona (maybe not as much as at Arsenal) the club he supports, he will be near family and friends and he will probably win things.

So I still think if Barca offer the right money and Arsenal accept he will leave.

But hopefully he does stay and wants to stay.

Translation = I want to go but Wenger doesn't have a replacement cause of Ramsays injury so I might stick it out 1 more year.

More like Barca don't really need me so won't cough up, suddenly I will stay one more season...:P

We have a winner. if fab has another amazing season with arsenal i can easily see his price tag reach close to C ronaldo's EASILY.

The more we keep hold of him the more money we will get from him.

@bobby i can understand about family etc but his family is a couple of hours away from a flight with easyJet. Infact, he could reach barcelona quicker then we can drive from london to manchester!

Plus, aint his parents and some of his other family here already? i highly doubt he came here on his own at 16

Not sure about his family over here?

But how often can he get over to spain when during the season he has to train all week and then play a game on a saturday? It takes alot longer to travel by plane aswell. You need to travel to the airport, get there a couple of hours early, then drive to your detination when you get to the other side :PP

I'm just saying, if it was me I can complteley understand, he will still get a game with the club he supports and be with everybody he loves in the country he was born in and wants to be in. In a couple of years anyway he will be first choice (I should imagine). It might even extend his career not playing as many games a season so young and having a bit of a rest?

But at the moment footballing wise he should stay with us in my opinion. He is the captain, star player is absolutely loved by the fans etc etc

We will see after the world cup anyway and see how much Barca want Fab.

Doubt he's flying EasyJet Bobby...:P

So why did he abandon spain at the age of 16 if he is really close to his family and friends? He knew what would happen if he came here so why do it?

How does all the rest of the foreign players manage to cope here without their family. they all cope fine and im 100% sure some of his family is here living in london. he diddnt come here on his own.

Arsenal are known for bringinng in a players family and helping them settle in life here by buying them nice appartments etc etc.

C ronaldo came here with his mum, Reyes also came here with his mum etc etc. They are not here in this country alone.

i know how hard it is to come to a foreign country on your own with no family and friends. i understand that because someone close to me did the same but that person has always said that if there parents and/or one of her bro's came here with her she would be fine.

Now if Fab's mum and dad are at least here in london then he is fine in that respect, however if they gone back home to spain then yea i can understand him wanting to leave.

Has fabregas even said specificaly why he wants to join barcelona? has he actually said its because his family and friends are there?

I honestly think that if he goes, we should not bother buying any more foreign youths because they all will eventually go back "home".

Good thing ramsey is from wales, or else thats another "fabregas type player" that will eventually leave us for the same reasons has fabregas.

Doubt he's flying EasyJet Bobby...:P

Jonney said that not me :PP

Jonney, people have more family than just their mum and dad and he also has his friends. Which I doubt Arsenal would have brought them over and housed them etc etc.

Of course he knew what he was getting into when he was 16 and he probably likes it in London (or wherever he lives close by). It was neccesary to move then to progress in his career, but he doesn't need to be here now, that's the big difference.

Football is football at the end of the day. Its his job, he is established and well sort after. There are more things important than your job and that is family and friends.

The basic facts are he can play for the club he supported all his life, this on it's own is a major factor in him leaving. If I was a player and Arsenal came in for me, I would do everything I could to play for them.

He will also be playing for one of the best club teams ever and he will probably get paid significantly more than he does at Arsenal.

Then you put the family, friends, Weather, lifestyle etc etc all into the mix and you can not blame him one bit for leaving IMO.

On the not buying anymore foreign players then you must be mad. Did you see us at the world cup?! English players are technically not as good and usually cost 10 times more than an equivelent player in another country/League. The premiership wouldn't be praised as it is without the foreign players.

not all foreign players we buy come from teams like Barcelona. They are one of the best teams aswell, so it is natural players who want to progress in their career want to play for teams like Barca.

So not every player is going to want to leave us early.

I have said before, for his career and if he wants to play more and have a high stature while playing, then he should stay at Arsenal for a while longer.

It will be a little step down for his footballing stature for a while, but he will be going to a much more successful club.

But all of the things I have mentioned above are major major things and will have a drastic effect on the outcoem of the situation.

All I was saying is Family and friends mean alot more to most people than their jobs and will be a major factor when choosing new jobs.

Dont know if its true but report say that Real madrid are chasing RVP for about 40mil euros.

I doubt it will really happen but we never know...

I think the last player on Mourinho's transfer list is a forward. Expect Real to buy 2 or 3 defenders and 1 or 2 midfielders this window. Remember, they already signed di Maria so now they're even more top heavy.
