Arsenal Thread

Good luck for the match, lads, and hope we watch a good match. I go to the stadium now (I'm a little late, but my motorbike puts me there in 10 mins). You can really take benefit of Marquez, by far our worst defender, and the fact we will defend at the halfline. And we can take benefit of all the injuries you have in the midfield. The truth is the team who believes more and makes the biggest effort will win. Good luck again!

To be fair Silvestre has played alright. Clichy was the one dawdling about in the area for Messi's 2nd just like he did against us when we beat you 3-1 this season.

yea i agree. man i dont know wtf is wrong with our defence. fair enough the 1st goal we cant do fuck all about but the 2nd and third goal teams like united and chelsea would never concede such a sloppy goa

I think Arsenal is playing a very decent match, but Barcelona have a certain Messi playing for them...

PS: If Wenger was barcelona's manager, i wonder what he would say about certain tackles (Diaby) of the Arsenal players.

No Messi and Arsenal could have won that. There's no shame and no one really to blame for this one.

If Diaby wasn't utterly shite and had slid the ball through for Walcott the second time, you'dve been 2-0 up and you really had them rocking.

As it is, he played a shite pass to Bendtner instead and Messi decided he'd actually bother to play.

yup and it all boils down to wenger relying on the likes of diaby instead of buying experience players

Yeah cos that's what Barca did when they signed Inieta, Xavi and Messi wasn't it!?!!

I thought Diaby played alright personally, though that move you mentioned was poor.

Yeah, that play really stands out as the "what if".

I thought Clichy was by far your better player. On the other team there was that Messi guy.

The likes of messi inesta and Xavi had other great players around them when they was young(Messi is still younga nd wasnt born in this planet) learning their trade. who teh fuck does diaby and co look up 2?

Same goes for your team united. you have scholes and giggs that the likes of carrick and nani look up to and learn from. Again who teh fuck do our younger players look up to and learn from?

My point? simple really you need a balance between young players and experience players and arsenal do not have that.

Just arrived from the stadium. I must say you don't have to be harsh with your team. Arsenal play a superb game and was on par with us for most of the match. Messi decided. I told in some threads that is the best player I've seen live, and he shows it again and again. He did everything.

I think Arsenal was lucky to be in front in the first half and unlucky to receive 4 goals at the end. Arsenal deserved better today and you must be very proud of your team.

That said, I must say I partially agree with jonney. If Arsenal had one or two veteran-five-star players, the youngsters would learn quickly and the whole team would be more solid. But I think Wenger did a good job today with the players he had. So he's a great coach and a not so great manager, maybe.

Congrats to you, Arsenal showed he's up there with the best.

I think Arsenal should get some reinforcements, and should learn how to actually apply pressure and defend at the same time. Because clearly, Wenger only training Arsenal to attack, defending is for pussys according to his philosophy (or so it seems).

Thats the thing, you say not to be too hard on our team well i hope thats not how wenger reacts to our team because if you want to be the best at what you do you got to be harsh on yourself or your team mates. simply saying "well played unlucky" attitude is simply not enough to win trophys.

We played ok tonight. Its clear as night and day our players are shit compared to barcelona's

If you had your best players in the pitch, maybe things would have been different. Don't be so harsh to them. I mean, I completely agree that you need more experienced players back (a kind of de rossi in the middle and a Pique behind is all you need).

But in my oppinion they defended well tonight, considering the injuries. Messi is unstoppable, but out of that they didn't allow Alves to run the wing, they held Bojan and Pedro far from danger and put Barcelona in difficult positions many times. In my oppinion what they lack is more experience and less injuries. Experience can be bought, injuries may be avoidable preparing better and crossing fingers to have more luck.

Hey, I just love how Arsenal plays and understands football, please don't change, only get slightly better at competing.

The thing is, every summer we end up losing one of our established players and where pretty much back to square one.

i tell you what mate, if we had kept hleb, flamini,Toure and gilberto silva. we would have won something by now imo.

I reckon one of our experienced player will go maybe fabregas and then what? rely on on diaby or nasri to replace him? then what happens when that said player gets injured? back to square one as we are tonight ie lacking strength in depth.

for christ sakes you lot got Yaya Toure on your bench who is probably as good as Song our best and only CDM!

That alone is saying something right their.

If we can some how from a miracle keep the exact same team we have now and ADD experienced players we may be able to match the likes of barcleona, chelsea and united who all 3 have simply destroyed us off the park with ease this season.

in regards to our defending, imo we was shocking. the 2nd and 3rd goal from messi was a gift. poor defensive line trying to play messi offside :LMAO:.

Look at the goals messi scored(2,3 and 4) they could have easily been avoided if arsenal defended properly.

Im not taking anything away from messi. he is a great player and his finishing was world class but to get those opportunities where not down to his skill and ability, but of arsenals shocking defending.

Do i need to mention the 2 goals we conceded at the emirates for further proof on what a joke our defence is?

I think up until our goal played really well, kept our shape kept putting pressure on. if we could have kept that one nil for about 15mins it would have been different I think.

You are right about the second break we had before the Barca first goal, if the pass was better it would have been a great chance.

I thought we played well for the team we had out. Barca had Messi and when your defence played like us at some points tonight, the best player in the world is going to take advantage.

Great first and third goals for barca.

Really don't like Silvestre, great one two with Messi for the first goal and just was out of his depth I thought.

I know if we had our influential players we would have got more from the match.

We had our most experienced defender out, our captain and best midfielder. Our great defencive midfielder. Our best attacking midfielder and our best striker all out for this game. For me the real difference was Messi.

If you say 'Fuck you Wenger' Jonney, you are living on a different planet, IMO.

We have done great this season considering and it all looks bright for the future if Fabregas stays.

Diaby has been playing really well recently and will be a great player. If anybody is to blame it is Rosicky IMO he had a bad game.

Anyway, We arguably got beaten by the best team in the world, with the best player in the world at thier home, in arguably one of the best stadiums in the world, with almost all of our best players out. No shame in it for me and roll on next season.

Wenger does need to address our defensive failings though. But don't forget we have had Djouru out for the season and he played well last season and was expecting to gradually take over from Gallas this season.

But we need less injury prone players at least.

Anyway, we can concentrate on winning the league now ;))

I think Arsenal is playing a very decent match, but Barcelona have a certain Messi playing for them...

PS: If Wenger was barcelona's manager, i wonder what he would say about certain tackles (Diaby) of the Arsenal players.

Two of our yellow cards were never yellows and were good challenges. Barca players were flying about left right and centre whenever they got touched. Not saying it is bad, because it is like that and we should know better playing teams like this. But barca did a few challenges from behind that went unpunished (not dangerous, but if we got yellows for what we done, then they definately should have).

But none of our challenges were deadly. A few misstimed, but definately no where near hurting somebody.

Anyway, best team won. Roll on next year.

As much as it'll hate the Arsenal boys but Chelsea have shown how to nulify Barca in Particular Messi.

Strong in the tackle and in there faces. It won't win "purists" but it will win games!

And that tells a lot... Call me a "purist" but I love football and talent more than tackles.

I agree with Bobby that the tackles form Arsenal weren't particularly bad, and some barcelona players did some tactical fouls that could have been yellow as well, but I disagree with him in the part that barcelona players were "flying" all the time. Specially when the first arsenal goal comes after a clear foul of Diaby to Milito in the midfield!

Anyway, if you think everything counts in order to win, then you understand nothing of how Arsenal and Barcelona understand the game. I tell it again tonight, I definitely congrat Arsenal fans for having so many injuries and displaying that effort. You deserved a little more tonight.

To be fair Silvestre has played alright.

Yeah, that one-two with Messi was perfection.

We were sodomized by Messi, who was fantastic, but he had full cooperation from our defence in all goals, I would say.

Jonney's criticism is just in the heat of the moment I think. Wenger did what he could with the players he had fit for the match. We were in a position where we had to play our last choice CB (no Gallas, Djourou, Campbell or improvised Song). Maybe even Vito Mannone would do a better CB than Silvesta.

Strength in depth isn't the main issue here. What has to be questioned is this ridiculous amount of injuries.

If Wenger was barcelona's manager, i wonder what he would say about certain tackles (Diaby) of the Arsenal players.

Overall both teams played fair but the worst tackle of the night was Milito's on Nasri. For a moment I feared Nasri could have been injured. Milito got away with that.

Also another Barca player stopped Walcott on the break and wasn't booked. Denilson, on the other hand, was booked for taking the ball from Messi with a clean tackle. The ref was a bit biased in favour of the home team IMO. Not that it changed the course of the game, of course!

On a side note, Diaby was decent, apart from wrong decisions in the midfield. But he is finally learning how to use his body to protect the ball and is turning into a great player.

Barcelona are on another planet simples.... I hope they win the lot truth be known. I can`t hate brilliance , a bit down and I`m reacting normal to an abnormal situation barca-flu

we played great...but our defense was awful...3 of the 4 goals were some really bad defensive mistake and an unadjusted backline...tough messi was fantastic, you cant deny that =p
