Arsenal Thread

Unlucky guys. Was hoping for a more open, attacking game, but United were just clinical. Your boys will learn loads though, feel bad for Gibbs, really really unfortunate.

Feel worse for Fletch though. I guess the only good news is the ref also will have ruled himself out of ever presiding over a CL final for that gaff, whereas Fletch was at least on the bench last year ;)

Always thought it was funny when people say the experience does you good. So are Arsenal now experienced at losing big games in the CL?
I think losing these games can make you more nervous about losing again.

I just think Arsenal are going to be much, much better next season.

Arshavin will be able to compete in every competition, and will be used to the Premiership fully. Nasri will also have that extra experience and I reckon he will be very, very good next year.

Fabregas (despite the Confederations Cup), Walcott and Van Persie will be refreshed and raring to go after injury hit seasons this year and will probably be more determined than most to prove something next season. Of course that's assuming that Cesc stays with the club and doesn't go to Barca or wherever.

Also with it being the summer, you can get rid of dead weight at the club, like Adebayor, who clearly doesn't want to be there, and is just holding up the progress of the squad.

I think with the signings of Nasri last summer, and Arshavin in January, Wenger has shown he's a bit more willing to pay when adding to his squad so perhaps you'll sign a striker, and some more midfielders/defenders and you'll have a much more competitive squad next season.

So it's not all doom and gloom at the Emirates. For now you can just imitate the Liverpool fans and say 'there's always next year'.

AAARRRRRGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What a fucking kick in the fucking balls!!!

After that second goal went in it was all over and we were never going to get back into it.

Man U could just soak everything up and just leave Ronaldo up there getting on the break. We had to attack and thats when the 3rd goal came.

Gibbs slipped - it was unlucky. But the rest of our defence were pish, you can't really blame Gibbs completely as they jsut carved our defence open!

Free kick was a great free kick. Then it was all over. Man United could sit back and just take it all in.

I think the big thing is what I read in the paper today Man Uniteds team cost 140million ours cost around 30million!! that is a huge difference. When you look at it like that, then you can see that Arsenal have done quite well.

But also it shows that we need to spend money on more quality on players like Arshavin and Nasri. Hungry gifted players that want to play for us. We need more experience and quality and a bigger squad to deal with all of our injuries.

We also need to get rid of Adebayor! Really, I have no words to describe him. He wants to leave and no matter how much bullshit he fucking pukes out about wanting to stay, his actions on the pitch speak volumes. he is a fucking lazy wanker!! he doesn't give a shit about the team.

When Henry was in his later year/s at Arsenal he always had the commitment - he would always track back in games and try and win the ball. Adebayor expects everything on a plate and if he doesn't get it, then he will not try to influence the game. Since he got all of his money and knew teams were after him, he just didn't care anymore. He has no more desire to do anything with Arsenal. IT IS A FUCKING DISGRACE!!!!

We need what we needed last year - a top quality defender and midfielder to partner Cesc. We should have about 20million to spend at least and with the sale of Adebayor, then hopefully around 30-40million. Wenger needs to spend half on a defender and half on a midfielder of great quality. I think we need another striker if we get rid of Adeboyor, but Defence and Midfield must be a priority.

If Wenger doesn't react to our shortfalls this season then he needs psychiatric help.

We really don't need many players - I think 3 players and we are more than capable of winning the prem etc. But it was obvious we needed them last summer.

I just pray to god Wenger buys quality and then we will be ok.

Gutted. I wasn't too optimistic before but I thought we could make it somehow. When the first 2 goals went in with 11 minutes it was like a bucket of cold water thrown on my face.

I think it was all a big reality check for us. The one that says "Hey, you wanna win the CL with your reserve defenders? And almost no attacking power? Against clubs like Man United and Barça/Chelski? Think again." The dream is over.

Nevertheless, we can't ignore it was a nice campaign, reaching the semis with those kids and all those injury problems.

The thing that upsets me the most is what happened to poor Gibbs - with whom AW has been gambling in important matches like today. It could have happened to anyone, but I'm sure his confidence is shattered anyway.

Evra is a big motherf***er.....he didnt say anything, kept his mouth shut like a dog, when Arsenal beat United 2-1 earlier this season. And now when they've won, hes calling Arsenal just a bunch of kids.

Seriously, even though i hate Cronaldo, he didnt say anything against Arsenal, but what have we done to this guy that he says this....

Seriously we have to take a revenge......maybe in the EPL game....

This team is young and has a lot of potential though, big difference in the long run.
their not that young, ade is 25/26, eboue is 26, sagna is 27, almunia is over 30, gallas is over 30, van persise is 25. Thats hardly a young side anymore.

There is no excuse for our ability. our players are simply not good enough or have the balls to fight for the club.

Arsenal gave up after the first goal. this side doesnt have any belly in them and i dont think they will ever win something until we bring in fresh experience players on our side. more ashavin like players please.

I have said this before, start a business filled up with in-experience employers and watch your business go to shit. You really need to balance it out by having experience players mixed with young blood and thats what MANU have atm.

i feel sorry for gibbs, he looked as if he was about to cry. too much pressure on his shoulder to be honest and should have never played in such a big massive game.

Their are two outcomes to his reacton. he could become an absolute failure of a player due to a shattering confidence or he will pick himself up, learn from his mistakes and become the next Ashley cole ie the best left back in the world.

i think we need more then 3 players. we MUST keep our current crop of players including Ade if he really wants to stay. just drop ade when he plays shit and maybe he will start to raise his game.

We must add to our squad not take away some and buy some because thats where we fucked up last summer. we got rid of hleb, gilberto, senderos and flamini and replaced them with just nasri. That is pathetic and showed throughout this season that the strength in depth was none existance.

we really cant afford to sell any players. Time to start buying some players wenger. its go or bust next season. fuck up again and wenger needs to rethink whever he is fit for the job anymore.

Look at all your big signings over the last few years. This season you bought Nasri and Arshavin, before that it was Eduardo, before that it was Rosicky and Baptista, but the year before that you still had the Campbells and Gilberto Silvas and a bunch of experienced players in Pires and Henry. Which is probably why you made it to the Champions League final that year. You might have even won that if it wasnt for the brilliant year Ronaldinho was having (even though he wasnt exactly his best in the final itself).
But my point is, yeah you've bought players in all positions like Silvestre but all your major signings have been attacking players or "positive players" shall we say. When are you gonna splash out on a "negative player" or one that focuses on breaking the opponent's play instead of playing beautiful football himself?
That 4-4 game against Liverpool was proof that even against a great tactician like Rafa, you can break them down and score 4 past 'em. Sometimes when you attacked against us yesterday, we couldnt get near you while you passed it all around our box. Now just get someone who can keep it stable at the back and you'll instantly turn into a great side.

True that. Wenger is a bit Real Madrid esque in as far as he appears loathed to spend any real money on a quality defence. He's bought experience up front and in the middle, but our defence has been gambling on the form of young players for years now. Even Gallas came in off the back of Cashley's transfer to Chelsea.

Some of these young players have worked out (Clichy & Toure). Some not so much (Senderos). With others, the jury is still out (Djourou, Traore and to a lesser extent Gibbs). Sagna is the only top quality defender Wenger has gone out and bought of late.

We need a bigger squad, and not one that uses has-beens and stop gaps like Silvestre. Our current side has so much potential, now we just need to add some experience. Arshavin has shown what a signing like that can do for a team. Now we need similar calibre players at the back and one up front. Ade's time is up for me. He's quality when he's up for it, but I think his desire has gone now he has his £80k contract. Ship him off to Milan and buy someone who really, really wants it. That's my two cents.

It's been a topsy turvy season and yes, we've had a disastrous injury record, but frankly we've been pretenders this year. Some awesome attacking displays have papered over the cracks but against the top sides you get exposed. I happened against Chelsea in the cup, it very nearly happened against Liverpool, it happened last night and you can be sure it would have happened against Barca in the final even if we did scrape past.

Oh, and congrats Utd. Best team won in the end. But Evra, what a cunt eh?

Well, what can we do lads,we lost, 1st goal Gibbs slipped 2nd goal Ronaldo Dived. Some teams (Man Utd ALL THE TIME !!!) HAVE ALL THE LUCK IN THE WORLD EVERY WEEK !

& DID YOU SEE THE RONALDO WAS CELEBRATING, HIS FIRST GOAL?, HE'S HAPPY BY GETTING A GOAL BY DIVING. YEH, HE IS REALLY WORLD CLASS !!!

To be fair, Arsenal barely did anything that made them deserve a result against United last night. United did less with the ball far more effectively. They were playing the experienced counter attacking game. I can count Eboue diving multiple times last night, so you can't blame Ronaldo.

But still mate, did man u have luck with them yesterday, and were we unlucky yesterday? I will answer that. yes & yes !

one day lads,man u will SINK !

Unlucky?????, FFS mate wake up and smell the cappuccino, Utd had more shots at the Emirates than arsenal had over Both games, luck doesn't come in to it, outplayed and beaten by a better side.

I think Arsenal was very unlucky in the first 10 minutes and that totally destroyed them for the rest of the match. And because of that Man Utd was the better team at the end. That's football, and that's how it is. Best teams tend to have better luck at the end, just because they're better.

I think Arsenal lacks a lot of experience. A good team, but not at the same level as Man, Barça, Chelsea or Liverpool to go to Europe. That's my opinion from far away, at least.

I think he is going to be a great player. I hope we don't sell him. If we do I think we will regret it. I am being serious aswell, I know alot of people think he is a joke. But he has scored 14 goals this season, he is only 21 and he gets technically better in every game I think. He has the hunger and desire that Arsenal need aswell. He also sets up quite a few chances, that he doesn't seem to get credit for.

I think for the last 3 games we drop Adebayor and play bendtner instead. We might aswell, we have nothing to lose.

I don't think any team will be 'invincible' again. That was a one off culmination of things, a perfect storm if you will. Nowadays there are more 'strong' teams out there. Arsenal were better than every other team except United by a fair bit that year (their first XI) whereas the top 4's first XIs are fairly even, and on their day Everton, Spurs and Villa can pose a real threat. But you lot should push alot harder for the title next year.

@ Jinz - Sorry mate but that was 180 minutes of one sided football. It doesn't come down to luck, or a single moment. I've seen a lot of matches/ties that do, but this wasn't one of them. As for Ronaldo diving, that's just a crock, being pushed the commentators who are so desperate for something to rile up website clicks. Ball on other side of him, RVP through the back. He doesn't have to kick his legs out for it to be a free kick. If we hadn't scored, no one would think anything of it.

I think it is possible - This Arsenal team at the moment have gone 21 games unbeaten at the moment. If this team can do it for that much, then I have no doubt it can happen again. Hopefully it will be us that do it again next time :))

Last nights game wasn't as one sided - but I do agree on the overall two legs. The first goal was unlucky, and then to get the second so quickly afterwards bowled us over. Then Man U just sat back and we couldn't get past. You only got the 3rd because we had everybody up at the front.

Ronaldo's free kick and how he got it was a dive and I would have been talking about it if the goal wouldn't have gone in :PP Van persie's knee touched Ronaldo and Ronaldo did a 'Platoon'. Its a dive and was a harsh free kick in my book. Also when we were attacking and I think you were 2-0 up at the time - Van persies hand brushed Vidics face, vidic went down like he had been slashed from cheek to cheek!! just because we had the ball and were raining in the crosses! it is a bad show, especially when you are so far ahead! I still think things like that need to have regressive punishments after the games (Also to Arsenal players, I know our players do it aswell)

Everybody seems to forget we had clichy and gallas out - we only had 50% of our defence. Our actual first choice defence is decent, we only let in a couple of goals after January, until they all got injured. So all this Men against Babies shit is ridiculous, because I believe it would have been a completely different game/s if we had our first choice defence. But again, it is all ifs and buts and as I have said the best team won. No doubt about it, so there is no point mentioning the diving etc as it wasn't because we lost.

We lost because we had a weakened team out there and our big players didn't turn it on when they should have done. That is why we lost.

The Vidic incident was fucking disgusting. UEFA should watch the videos and ban him from the final.

If Barça takes the lead first we might see none of it miraculously. But if Chelski takes the lead I'd put my money on 8 times :D

Back on topic, I think there's not much to discuss about yesterday's outcome. All in all they were the better side and Arsenal didnt have any answers really. Ronaldo dives, Eboue dives. We were unlucky but didn't try hard enough to fight back. You have to have the heart to do so but this wasn't the case and our players got scared at first, then resigned.

But of all players we can single out Moneymayor. We didn't see him pissed off, sad or disappointed. All I could sense was the numbness of who doesn't give a fuck. Too bad, Ade isn't half the player he was in the 07-08 season.

@ Tim7 - Yeah no idea what Vida was doing. Not like him at all, normally he's forced off the pitch because he's bleeding so much, but wants to stay on! All I can think is that maybe it actually connected with an eye or something. He's not one to simulate generally, and he didn't really need to. But no way does that deserve any punishment. If it did, we wouldn't have any players left in the CL!

As for the Drogba dive count, you guys are way too optimistic for me. I'm putting it at 17, at the very least. And he's going to go off the pitch for treatment at lest 4 times.

Then score the winning goal in a 3-2 thriller...
