..I'm scared he might be another Hleb.

What's wrong with Hleb? I say give the dude a chance. Not many remember this now, but at the beginning of last season, Arjen Robben was viewed as the second coming of Jesper Gronkjaer - injury-prone winger with a couple of tricks now and again.

Firstly, Wenger and his crew are the best scouts in the world (van Persie cost a 10th of Robben's price and he's hardly any less of a player) and we ought to trust them. Signing Rosicky seemed to me to at first to be adding something we dont necessarily need - with fabregas and hleb manning the creative attacking midfielder positions - but watch the guy play and you realise there's no team too good for his services.

Secondly, Alex Hleb is from Belarus. He played in Germany. I dont know if anyone else knows this, but the predominant language in neither of those countries is English. The dude just got dropped into a foreign country with no eastern europeans in the squad to take him under their wing. That's immense in terms of teamwork, developing relationships and understandings. It's also one of the reasons why players from the far east struggle in european leagues, but then do well in international competitions - they're good, but it's very difficult to adapt to both a new league and a new language.

How rubbish was Vieria yesterday? Has he lost his hunger or what? There was a time when he ran shit in central mid, but his performance was tepid last night. Perhaps Le Boss really did know something no one else did.

its 50/50 for me cos although he looks a pale imitation of the Paddy we all know, so did arsenal last season...

and okay yeah the goons got £15 mill but again it didnt do them much good last year.

Rosicky looks good value at £7mill, lol im sure it would have been double figures after that game, he seems to be the one to take over from Nedved when retires, if he's half as good as that then you've got some player.

Where do you see him playing, in a midfield 2 with either cesc and gilberto or more of an AMF like Hleb?

Fair enough, but I still stand by the notion that the mistake Wenger made last season was not selling Vieria but failing to cover for him adequetly. Notice I didn't say 'replace him' as there is (was) only one Paddy.

Rosicky's value must have jumped a bit after the other day, but it's still speculative to guess as to how well he'll do. IMHO I think he might struggle to adapt at first as he's quite light. Such is the way of the EPL, he might take a bit of a battering at first.

He'll probably fill the second AMF spot in a five man midfield or rotate with Cesc as the tip of our 4-4-2 diamond. As sick as Cesc is, he plays far to many games for an 18 year-old. His place was virtually guaranteed last season so it will be good to have another option when he has an inevitable off day.

Wenger thought he had Baptista in the pocket, but then it backfired. Thus letting Paddy graze in the italian alps, and us without muscle in the middle.

Van, i can see Rosicky playing wide (pires), and middle (fabregas). However, as Pires is gone, i think he'll play on the left, and Reyes will shunt up front.

I hope not. I still think Reyes is too small to be a striker in the Premiership, he looks every bit a winger to me.

I'd rather have:

------------Lemon---------------

-------Toure------Senderos------
Eboue----------------------Cole(?)

------------Gilberto------------
-------Rosicky-------Fab--------
Hleb-----------------------Reyes

-----------Henry----------------

OR...

------------Lemon---------------

-------Toure------Senderos------
Eboue----------------------Cole(?)

-----------Gilberto-------------
Hleb-----------------------Reyes
----------Rosicky/Fab-----------

------RVP/Adebayor--------------
-----------------Henry----------

In my opinion this is a make or break season for Reyes. He needs to start playing every game and stop disappearing when the going gets tough. He's had two and a half seasons to adapt, time to start delivering Jose. I think it's fair to expect a little more from a £17 million investment.

He needs to stop doing the lollipop and then diving into players for the freekicks... i hate that shit. play it past the player and blaze a trail.. he's a quick player, but i dunno what's going on in his head.

Agree with the comments about Reyes, he's not done too tough since he's been here.

I knew people would comment about Rosicky "looking" lightweight but I dont think he's struggle at all, he's class, wouldnt waste him on the wing though, Wenger made that mistake with Hleb who always looks lost on the wing IMO.

Which part of

convinced you I was implying he does that everyday? I don't know if he'll be a success or a flop, but a good performance is a good performance. Respect where respect is due, and 2 goals in an opening game is at least worthy of tipping one's hat in my book.

Let me just remind you of what you said...

Our new signing puts in a MOTM performance for his national team in the WC finals, scoring two impressive goals in the process.

Pardon us if we're a little bit happy. No one's saying he's Ronaldinho, but even you would admit he looks good value at £7 million.
You've just said that £7million is good value for a player you judged based on that one game where he was MOTM and scored two goals.
Now unless you're saying 1 MOTM performance justifies the whole price tag, the impression I'm getting is that you think he's consistantly that good.

The impression you're getting is incorrect my friend.

I'm not suggesting he's amazing.

I'm not suggesting he will be that good all the time, if at all, in England.

I'm not judging him on one match either as Rosicky is hardly an unknown player.

What I AM suggesting is that 2 good goals in an opening WC match is a good performance, and for that and that alone, I'm happy.

.

Then why are you expecting me to admit that £7million is a good value for him?

Sorry but that doesnt answer the question.

I don't really care if you think it's good value or not. Gooners seem pretty happy with the signing which is all that matters. I'm pretty sure Arsene Wenger's soul purpose when signing a player is for you to give your blessing:roll:

Well, so far, he's sure as hell better than your lots summer signings...

This is completely irrelavant to the discussion. We're not talking about whether you think he's a good value purchase, the question is WHY you think he is. And clearly, you're all judging that on one game.

Yawn yawn Rune. Change the record ffs!

We are not judging him on 1 game!!

He's a regular for Czech Republic, who are ranked 2nd in World rankings. He has played and scored against us for Sparta in CL and played well against us when he played for Dortmund. £7mil is looking like another bit of shrewd Wenger business but that remains to be seen. Note I said "looking" not "is".

Yet everyone got all excited after he scored his recent goals...

You won't hear us judging united when you buy Carrick for 15mill
Thats cuz I wont call him good value until I see him perform well wearing the Man Utd shirt.

Obviously we won't know til next season how Rosicky will handle the prem, but he looked very sharp this week. Then again, there were huge hopes around him when he signed in Germany and that didn't really work out. And then there's the Baros from Euro arguement.

But I think he'll fit in well with Arsenal's playing style, and when you see who else is being bought for around that much, it looks like a great deal IMO.

Why shouldn't we get excited? Our newest signing has just scored 2 goals on the biggest stage there is. He played really well, and has done for sometime for Czech. I think you slightly envy the fact that your potential summer signing will cost you double the price and can't even get a game.

First of all, I couldnt care less cuz it was only one game. In fact, theres nothing there to be jealous for. I'd only be jealous if he was able to do that for Arsenal and that remains to be seen.
Secondly, Carrick has to compete with Gerrard and Lampard to get into the England team, Rosicky's place doesnt even have half that amount of competition.

The point is that Rosicky had one good game and you called him good value. How can you judge his value before he has even played for you?
Ronaldo is brilliant for Portugal and consistantly scored for them in the qualifiers and friendlies, etc. If we were anything like you, we'd be over the moon to have him. But that obviously isnt the case cuz its a different story when he plays for us.

To be honest,I wasn`t that happy w/ his scoring on the US,but I won`t disagree w/ a gooner either on it.It`s time to talk about WC not EPL
