Arsenal Thread

We got bigger fish to fry.. Spurs at the weekend!!! The young lads had their chance to shine , but Rosicky was shocking. I'm Not angry , Southhampton were solid and that goal was sublime.

Rosicky's real mustard. He ain't the problem. What do you expect from a guy who's well in his thirties (although very energetic), who didn't play at the World Cup and has not been featuring for us. He was never gonna hit the ground running.

Let's not forget he scored the winner at White Hart Lane last season. Hopefully he can feature and deliver again versus Spurs.

This team's lack of ability to defend collectively - not only that but the penchant for exposing itself with an awful lot of fullback overlapping not properly covered by some of our midfielders - is our Achilles heel. We've only managed to create a perception of solid defending at some points last season because the back four themselves had been splendid. That didn't stop top opposition from battering us though.
And now Sagna's gone, Debuchy's injured, and neither Mertesacker, Koscielny or Gibbs have proper cover (seeing how Monreal is sidelined too).

This is a shambles of Wenger's own making. Picture that during the fixture congestion madness of the end of the year. Not funny. Arsene's been a bad boy and I don't think what Santa's got for him in store is any good.

i agree about our defensive numbers, but we need to put the Southampton game in the context it needs to be in, 3 of our back 4 had a handful of first team games between them.

And frankly Rosicky was one of the problems in that game along with Podolski they both had shockers when at least they should be showing the youngsters how to do it.

Rosicky was giving his all i will give him that, but he looked very naieve at some points and made stupid rash mistakes (but I have no doubts he will be important for us this season) Podolski on the other hand looked absent in his perfromance, it really wasnt a perfromance of a guy that craved first team football.

We were also playing one of the most in form teams in England with our second team.

The big test is Spurs, but again there is no doubting our defensive problems, but if you want to dwell on the bad with Wenger than do so, but the defensive issue is the only bad thing he has done in a while (it is a big thing but...) you need to also mention all of the positive things Wenger and the club have done over the last couple of seasons.......so I don't think Santa will be too pissed off ;-)

Just heard an unbelievable story from a certain Harry Harris, an old journalist who followed Spurs for almost 50 years.

A Dutch journalist told him about a Dutch football player fed-up with Italian football and Inter Milan. The guy was a big Spurs fan, as a child he had posters of Glen Hoddle and Spurs.

Harry Harris talked to Spurs manager Alan Sugar, but he said the player wasn't good enough.

That is how Dennis Bergkamp ended up at Arsenal.

This sums up Arsenal-Spurs.

Have a good north London derby Arsenal friends and may the worst win.

PS: there is a rumour in Belgium that Wenger wants to buy Vertonghen and that Vertonghen agrees...please don't let this be true...not Vertonghen...(wouldn't blame him though).

Wenger was dumb to want Vertonghen play in a DM role and back up to CB. The reason he went to Spurs. Today! Vertonghen will take a starting role in the back !

if that is true him coming it will be the 2nd coming of SOL !

interest story of DB ,that means I could of ended a Spur fan Jimminy Cricket!!!

Its always different in the Derby, I expect them to play much much better.

Also the Bergkamp story is old but it does make you think, imagine if he went to Spurs! :PP sends shivers down my spine....

This is a well known anecdote (well, at least here in the Netherlands) however, Bergkamp said he only liked Glen Hoddle, not Spurs in particular.

I did read that Vertonghen will not extend his contract at Spurs. Wouldn't mind him at Arsenal though. He's a bit of a prick but we need players like that. The only other players who can be like that are Wilshere and Flamini to be honest.

I knew about that one, read it somewhere (can't remember now). I just remember being awe struck with Dennis Bergkamp when I was 13, watching the World Cup USA '94. It became very obvious to me that he was something really special, and I continued more or less following his progress after that. He's been one of my favourites of all time since then.

I don't know how a professional football manager couldn't see what even a 13 year old kid could. But that's football for you, sometimes clubs are run by dinossaurs who think they know it all. I can't understand how that happened, but I'm glad it did! :D

Sometimes I ask myself: since I started supporting Arsenal because of Dennis Bergkamp, would I have become a Spurs fan if it went the other way around?
Maybe so, but I'd like to think that guys like Henry, Overmars, Pires and Vieira helped cement this relationship of mine with Arsenal. Funny to think about it though!

@Bobby - I know Wenger deserves some luck for a change, and I'd love to see our injury woes taking a turn for the best. But the point where we all agree is: he isn't helping himself by leaving it to chance. There's no other way of putting it.

It's been sufficiently covered here, we all agreed that it would eventually come to bite us in the arse. Yet we didn't expect it to be so soon! Just one month later, and it's already upon us.

It's mind boggling to see how we're still in the beginning of the season and our defensive options currently amount to Koscielny, Mertesacker, Gibbs and Chambers, and that's it, no senior squad replacement. Damn we already had to use youngster Hector Bellerin in the Champions League away to Dortmund. That's how deep the shit we're in really is.

it is also worth mentioning that it wasn't bergkamp the one who got fed up of inter... it was the other way around. dennis was a monumental flop in italy. he didn't score a single goal in his first 6 months... in 2 years he scored just about 15 goals. and he was a regular starter aswell. after 2 seasons the bergkamp signing (which was quite expensive) had become a bad joke really.
so it was moratti the one who desperately wanted to get rid of dennis, not the other way around.
.... then again, come to think of it, he might have wanted out as much as the club wanted to sell him.
speaking of arsenal legends, even henry was less of a flop in italy than bergkamp... funny how things work out sometimes :)

I read a great anecdote about Bergkamp and Inter's manager at the time (can't recall who) where Bergkamp and the manager drove from Firenze to Milano together because Bergkamp is scared of flying (rest of the squad flew, and the manager wanted to support Bergkamp and get to know him better because he wasn't doing well) They stopped at a truck stop and played against a group of truckers, and Bergkamp was absolutely phenomenal. The manager didn't want to sell him after that, he just saw his natural talent even against a team of truckers, but Inter ended up selling him of course and the rest is history.

Great to see Özil seems to have his confidence back. Looked very lively today, again.

Gutted we didn't won that but unfortunately Kaboul was amazing at the back.

That equalizer goal was a lucky one, imo.
Shame for Kaboul and Vertonghen who were great.

Spurs started vers shaky and Arsenal never took advantage of that.

Think Spurs sat back and just soaked up pressure. Its wasn't a typical NLD... Lloris by far was their best player. He kept them in the match.

Back to CL on Wednesday, already down (2) injured players Ramsey /Arteta n possibly Jack too.

What a dummy from Danny. You can't teach that kind of technique. Opened things right up for the Ox.

He did something sensational in the 1st half though, leaving Vertonghen embarrassed. I quite liked his contributions throughout the match.

a bit worried
