Arsenal Thread

Joel has been clearly on impressive form since Wenger loaned him to Olympiakos. It wasn't just at the World Cup that he impressed, anyone saw him against Man United on the Champions League? He did really well there and score a masterclass of a goal.

We don't know what goes on in the dressing room and all that, but just by looking at it from outside, it seems very unfair to Joel that he never gets the nod.

When using the false 9 approach, Wenger should at least use the right players. He always has either Ozil or Cazorla as one of the wingers, but these guys are natural midfielders - they simply aren't used to drifting to the middle to occupy the space of a CF. On the other hand, if he used a front 3 of Sanchez, Welbeck and Campbell, things could get really exciting. Count Poldi, Walcott and Ox in this as well, and we've got plenty of depth in that area.

Wenger has to stop using Özil as a wide player - or Cazorla there for that matter. When push comes to shove I think only one of them can start. The other midfielders being Ramsey and Flamini/Arteta.

This could work, if we consider the work rate that Alexis and Welbeck can provide.

i'm definitely no expert on campbell, as i've only watched him this summer during the world cup.... however i was very impressed by him in those few matches. nevermind his technical skills (which are also very good), he showed the composure and the positional awareness of a 30 years old veteran.

granted, a handful of matches are hardly enough to express an informed opinion, but he certainly looked like a player worth keeping around. i'm really surprised arsenal are really considering letting him go.

btw Bobby, huge congratulations for your son! sorry i'm a bit late, but i don't come in here as often as i used to (infact i'm glad i stumbled upon this). anyway, i'm really happy for u :))

cheers :))

------------Welbeck

--Sanchez---Ozil---Walcott/Ox

--------Ramsay--Flamini

I'd give that a wirl

That's amazing line up....
On other news Khedira injured in NT training 6 wk damn it!!! Dodge a bullet on that. Even if we didn't approach him. Injure prone players at certain age must be given a no buy policy * Diaby cut him loose

Not signing the DMF is one thing. At this point we the Arsenal fans don't even know what a DMF is anymore :P

What was really mental was not buying another CB. If we get one injury at that position, we will have no cover left. Six defenders to play Premier League, Champions League, League Cup and FA Cup! It's a calamity really.

I refuse to believe there was no one Wenger could have brought as backup. It didn't have to be a Mats Hummels, you know... just about any real professional CB would do. Could be Championship level. Damn, if you turn to a Championship side and offer one centre half a short contract, they'd take the chance in a heart beat.

Should something happen with Kos and Mertesacker - suspension or injury - we would be fielding Chambers and Monreal. Just picture that!

EDIT: Monreal has been starting because Gibbs is injured. So we'd have to use our youngster fullback Bellerin as it stands!

Yep it is a big dissapointment, knowing that all we need is a bit of cover there is annoying and the fact he got rid of 3 centre backs without replacing them is crazy imo.

Our season could depend on it, we just have to pray it is ok.

The DMF i am less worried about, I also think Welbeck will do well for us.

Also it will be a matter of time before Alexis and Ozil etc start getting fitter and understanding eachother more.

I heard Wenger is playing Ozil as a wide forward to accelerate his fitness for now. so hopefully we will see him in his prefered position soon.

i still defintely think we can do well this season.

The truth is the problems have already shown their faces even at this early stage in the league.

Poor display against Crystal Palace. Lucky to have 3 points.
Poor display against Everton. Team completely non-existent until 60th minute when Giroud came on.
Poor display against Leicester. No real threat posed. Leicester had few opportunities to steal all 3 points on the counter.
Poor display against Beşiktaş away. They dominated the game. (Being Turkish I couldn't help but root for Beşiktaş anyways :p)

5 lucky points from 3 games. 2 against relegation candidates. Difficult CL qualification against a lower class team. No disrespect to any team, but a team of Arsenal's calibre should really be more punishing.

I don't want to be a total downer. I realize the team will most likely start gelling better as the weeks go on. But currently things don't look too impressive. Let's hope Wenger finds a way to make it work. We really could have used a DMF. Arteta was really poor last season and he's only getting older. And he was never much of an enforcer. Flamini is our only guy, and as others mentioned, we practically signed him as an accident. It would really help us tactically to get some physicality in the team, both in the midfield and upfront. Welbeck will help with that I guess, but that is why I was hoping for Balotelli or Jackson Martinez. Can't help but envy Sturridge-Balotelli-Sterling trio. (Especially considering Balo and Welbeck were for the same price).

Truly is one of the biggest cunts in football history, and he would be even if he hadn't had done that.

He's a cunt but he's never really done anything that bad on a football pitch, tbh.

Just annoying as a football fan that he never puts in effort for more than half a season because he's clearly a very talented player.

Yep i think he could have been great if he had the ambition and after one good season think he achieved everything.

Anyway first big test, we have to show something at home.

I thought we played well, Wilshere played really well, two lovely goals.

the two goals we gave away were poor and I never feel confident when the are attacking us.

but some good signs against the champions.

Can't wait for Theo's return. Özil on the wing is bothersome . Them goals! Eh? Sanchez / Jack :TakeABowSon:

edit: invincible season in the making :hehe: :bebo:

Commentator here said Debuchy might have fractured his leg

God I hope this isn't the case. It would take him a long time to recover and Wenger would pay the price for not bringing spare defenders. Quite why he loaned out Jenkinson I don't know why.

The game was really good, but I don't feel confident either when we are under attack.

Jack and Alexis were brilliant. We needed a bit of Cazorla to hurt them. Wenger insisted with Ozil when it clearly wasn't working.

Just a sprained ankle according to Wenger, yet two or three weeks out will cost us...

Anyway, good to see the team working ofensively, with an inspired Alexis, but defensively we're fucked. Almost eight or nine players on the box and DEMICHELIS scores?

Ozil was gash again.

Wilshere and Clattenal were your best performers.

Oh, you mean Chattenburgh, the man who loves a chat with Milner and Zabaleta when they hack away at Arsenal players?

It's funny how perspectives from opposing fans are so different. I thought the ref let too many City players get away with it and in the end he was won over by the insisting, persistent diving of David Silva.

Could have been worse though. It could have been Phil Dowd. Next to Phil Dowd, any ref looks pro-Arsenal.
