Arsenal Thread

It's all over the Portuguese press (although this not mean much this days).

:PRAY::PRAY::PRAY: Please Arsène sign Zigic (:P) so we can have on a €10m transfer.

Arsenal XI to play Leicester: Szczesny, Debuchy, Mertesacker, Koscielny, Monreal, Flamini, Ramsey, Cazorla, Ozil, Alexis, Sanogo

Arsenal subs: Martinez, Chambers, Rosicky, Campbell, Wilshere, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Podolski.

Good team. Sanogo will be useful and I fancy him to get a goal. Hopefully Özil will finally play at the 10 position but I doubt it.

I just pray to God we get a DMF in. Carvalho would be brilliant, everything I've seen from him looks like he'd be the perfect fit. Arteta is not a natural DMF and we can't play with Flamini an entire season, only for the fact that he'll be suspended often.

We were a bit toothless out there today.
Same problems that I pointed out earlier: we commit 6 or 7 players to the edge of the box and yet many times fail to produce a shot at goal. Leicester had a few dangerous breaks. They missed a clear chance (Ulloa), but the likes of Liverpool, Chelsea and Man City would have punished us for sure.

We need more zing to our attacking play. Sanchez was great and runs through brick walls for his team. Ramsey was too quiet today. Cazorla tried hard and produced 2 quality balls over their defence. Özil has been dismal (playing out of position doesn't help, which is an Arshavinistic deja vu for me really).

Truth is that we need not only a squad CB and a good DMF - we will need a quality proper CF. Sanogo won't do, neither will a false 9 approach. Also seeing how Wenger clearly doesn't trust Podolski and Campbell, he'd better act accordingly in the market real quick.

Please take care of our Danny. I'll miss him horribly. Everyone should immediately put him in your fantasy team, he's going to be amazing. And cheap.

Not sure what to think about this. We'll have to see. Could be a second Sturridge or a second Wright-Philips.

Is that right? Doesn't feel correct to me.

He has 10 league goals in 52 appearances across the last 2 seasons (not including 0 goals this season in 2).

Although, a very promising player, not exactly what we needed. Unless Arsène can mould him into a DMF :COAT:

We didn't get a Centre Half either (Nacho Monreal is our 4th choice CB) and our plan B striker is still Sanogo (Welbeck can't provide that hold-up play done by Giroud and Sanogo).

Not to mention the arrival of Welbeck hurts the chances of Joel Campbell, whom I was eager to watch playing for us! FFS, was Wenger playing beach volleyball during ALL Costa Rica matches in the World Cup?

Anywho... We are left short in two areas and that's how we're going into this campaign. We have to pray Arteta to come back soon and well, for Flamini not to get injured or suspended all the time, and for the health and fitness of Per, Laurent and Calum

Other than that, getting a quality attacker like Welbeck beats getting no one for sure.

I think he'll do well. His link-up play and first touch is generally very good, he can hold the ball up well but also has the pace to run in behind defenders.

He's also very hard-working off the ball. His finishing needs work but I can see him improving on that aspect of his game under Wenger. He also adds to Arsenal's excellent British core of their team.

Give him a run of games as the ST and you never know. He never really got that at Utd. Being the loan striker might fit him.

Just play Ozil as a 10

...but wait until after we've beaten you :)

What is Arsene thinking? NO cover for defense...Welback is strong and hope he can hold the ball and feed to Sanchez, Ramsey ,Theo and hopfully Ozil can take a chance at gol. Giroud holds the ball and flicks it off well. Although, Giroud has scored more headers then anyone in the league.

Sending out 3 central defenders and not getting in any is going to bite us in the arse big time, luckily we have chambers that can fill in there but he is still very young.

welbeck is a bit underwhelming but praying he can be a useful part of the team.

the whole start of the season has been underwhelming, but we have a few gears we can step upto, I am sure of that.

I agree Joel Campbell should get a chance but I still dont see anything amazing in him, but at least we know he can score!

really dont understand not using the Pod though, put him on the left at least bring him on as a sub etc

Frustrating, but I Still think we can have a good season, fitness and practice together will improve.

Campbell looked very good for Costa Rica in their games against Uruguay, Italy and Greece (esp in the latter when they had gone down to 10 men) - I think he should be getting a game ahead of Sanogo personally, but I think he'll end up being another Park.

i'm definitely no expert on campbell, as i've only watched him this summer during the world cup.... however i was very impressed by him in those few matches. nevermind his technical skills (which are also very good), he showed the composure and the positional awareness of a 30 years old veteran.

granted, a handful of matches are hardly enough to express an informed opinion, but he certainly looked like a player worth keeping around. i'm really surprised arsenal are really considering letting him go.

btw Bobby, huge congratulations for your son! sorry i'm a bit late, but i don't come in here as often as i used to (infact i'm glad i stumbled upon this). anyway, i'm really happy for u :))

So, Wenger has set us up for another 'miracilous' top 4 finish rather than a title challenge. We could have easily bought a proper striker, DMF, and a defender. Instead, we bought another winger. Good grief...Does Wenger enjoy setting up the roster short and then securing 4th place with a last second gasp to prove he's a genius or something?

Again, we could've had easily Khedira/William and Balotelli/Jackson Martinez.

Clearly business is not that easy. Supposedly we tried to get William w/ Joel going but Benfica seem to only want Joel on a permanent basis. He may go to Benfica in the winter window it all depends on injuries.

Sporting is a bit packed upfront, plus Joel probably demands too much in wages and SCP is trying to save money to compensate for past years reckless spending. It wouldn't make sense that deal for them.

You should've had gone for William at €30m. Is a gem, super mature. It would proved smart business in the future.

It's a shame Joel couldn't be with us. With Wellbeck he will barely be given a chance, I reckon. And we really need a goalscorer that is also a mobile striker. Joel lacks the goals stats, but previously at Bétis and Olympiakos he's been playing on the sides. At Costa Rica he proved that his place is upfront. It would be a dream to have him on our team...
