Arsenal Thread

Well, Liverpool,Dortmund and Mutd in what 7 days... We didnt take advantage with the rest of the top clubs dropping points. I bet the players saw the team sheet n the response was, No Per! No Rosicky !! oh shit!

I don't think it's such a big deal. Vermalaen is your captain - if he gets back to full fitness he's a starter regardless.

And Rosicky barely ever plays, ever, in his Arsenal career. He's looked decent this season, but he's hardly your best player, nor does he play in a position where you're short of options.

It's a bit like United fans complaining Danny Welbeck and Rio Ferdinand were out for this one...

Ozil n Rosicky have been great together where Cazorla is not combining w/ Ozil like Rosicky. Per is massive! the brain. Vermaelen is good but more attack minded then sitting back and reading the game. Kosc is attack minded as well.

:SMUG:

It's OK lads, keep churning out those results, but when you come at the king you best not miss

Vermaelen has been fit for a while now, he can't get in the team because Merts and play so well together.

Rosicky plays quite a bit and in a game like today would have been great, he is tenacious and hunts the ball down. It was exactly what we could have needed in this game.

But saying all of that all teams have players out etc so no excuses you beat us. But it was by no means convincing the first goal was key.

Hopefully at the Emirates it will be a different story, there is definitely a mental struggle there with United and our players need to get over it.

Swedish meatballs>sports

Those swedish meatballs where great. I saw last 30mins of the match and diddnt see united threaten us at all?

The fact that we got 6 points out of 9 is quite frankly amazing. I am impressed and not bitter about losing to united

Its OK mate we will keep spanking the mid table teams why you continue to drop points against them. Hehe

Loosing to United is not that important, what is important now is Arsenal's reaction.
If this different from recent Arsenal team, it will not implode and will continue to win against mid table teams...i kind of a agree with Johnny on that...but i'm not as certain as he is.
Anyway, in itself this loss means nothing at all...

I expect united to lose/drop points against some mid table teams or get spanked by the other big teams in their own ground so it is not as if united will now win every single game from now on.

Plenty to play for. i am not that fussed :)

It is vital we beat the likes of Southampton, Hull and everton for our next 3 matches. win those and we can still be top come xmas time and no one will remember this defeat.

There is no shame in beaing defeated at old trafford against the current champions.

United created nothing in that game so it is not as if they completely played us off the park.

I expect united to get some wins against chelsea and/or city at Old Trafford

Yeah I genuinely don't think Arsenal have that much to worry about, three consecutive fixtures which consisted of Liverpool, Dortmund and United and you came away with two wins and one loss is a very good showing.

I think Wenger might have made a mistake in not freshening things up a bit yesterday, possibly play Wilshere from the start who looked very good when he came on.

Exactly, losing away to United is hardly the end of the world.

The only thing that upsets me is that this team isn't incisive enough in some big games. Yesterday we were so tame, we didn't work their keeper and Sagna was our best attacking option. Just some things to think about. I know Arsene won't, though, as he is too stubborn and will think the problem was that we "lacked sharpness" and "mental strength".

While there's no shame in being beaten 1-0 at Old Trafford, my point about our credentials to win the league remains: if we keep feeding 6 points to direct competitors in the table, we won't win anything.
Not only that, each single game against the top clubs is what we call a "6 points match", where their loss is our gain too, so that we take 3 points and keep them from taking 3 points.
In that sense, United enters the list of teams we can't afford to let win at the Emirates.
In recent years it has happened so many times, when we get beaten away AND at home by the big dogs. That goes some way to explaining the gap in recent years.

Let's see how the guys come back from international duty. We are expected to have Theo and Podolski back, and maybe AOC if we're lucky.
Southampton is not gonna be easy though.

Was there a specific reason that v.Persie celebrated his goal that much?

E.g. if a player leaves a dirty team like panathinaikos and scores against them, it is logical that he will celebrate like someone who had fallen in the crap and finally got out. But Arsenal was always a nice team and Wenger made him the player he is today.

He's obviously a dick

You throw the first stone... Smells like a bought ref, doesn't it? Occam's razor says Olympiacos paid the ref a bung.

In the end though, doesn't really matter how dirty Panathinaikos really is because you're obviously dirtier.

He didn't celebrate last year but I think Wenger's comments about him still being 'an Arsenal man' kind of made him prove a point he certainly isn't anymore, as well as the stakes being so much higher this year.

Wenger always says his ex-players love Arsenal. Wenger is a decent human being 1st.

RVP is a hot head , always has been. Every time I see the Arsenal.com there is always ex-players doing some sort of task for the club. RVP`s dad still has art work at the Emirates! Wenger is not fussed by RVP celebrating . RVP should kiss the Mutd badge if he was looking to start controversy. I `d like him to do so :))

pfft. Would rather play there than at the Stadium of Light. Cakewalk in comparison

The whole letter thing when he left and the celebrating the goal, it's about respect and he has shown the club none.

He didn't celebrate the first two goals he scored against you.

After how many matches is it okay to celebrate? 3 is clearly too few for you. Maybe 5?

Think fans are way too sensitive. They view it as their right to chant 'Van Rapist' for 90 minutes, but if he has the temerity to celebrate a game-winning goal in an important match, then it's the player that is the asshole.

It's a couple of games a season, I don't see why he can't just do muted celebrations forever? Just to show the club and fans some respect and not rubbing it in, for them paying his ridiculous wages while he was injured for a large chunk of his career and us being patient with him.

To be fair though after his ridiculous open letter he was an instant dick anyway so the celebrating is just the icing on the cake :))

A section of fans sung the song, but I bet a whole lot more United fans sang that song when he was playing with us? Just like they sing the songs about Wenger being a paedaphile.

maybe he shouldn't celebrate when he scores for United because they abused him in the past?

considering the hostile reception he receives its weird to expect much sympathy in return.

Fans - robin your a cunt

RVP - Celebrates goal at home end

Fans - OMG THE DISREPSCT! HOW CNA HE!

That is how united are?

They slated RVP when he was at arsenal and now his god.

i be if suarez joined united, all the fans will worship him and evrra shining his boots as well

He should put his hands up say;

"I was a cunt that is right. Maybe because I was such a cunt and now I have had time to think about my actions, I will now try and show them the respect they deserve. I was injured for a large chunk of my career with Arsenal and when I finally was not injured for a whole season and lived up to the promise I showed with the faith the fans and the manager had in me, I then fucked off.

I owe them at least that much, not to rub in my move to Manchester United for a fraction of the price I should have gone for. I know it can't make up for what I have done, but at least it will show I am not a complete cunt and I just did a cunty thing.

I am an adult and although some Arsenal fans are singing bad things about me, so did the Man United fans before I moved to them (And they didn't really have a reason to say the hurtful things they did), I understand that I have hurt them in some way and although I don't condone the things they say, I will respect the fans that used to Idolise me and that I let down, by not celebrating like a wanker in front of them when I score against them"

Something along those lines :PP

I think RVP did what's best for him. The manner he chose by telling the fans was an attack on the Arsenal, the board, the medical staff , the vice captain ,and Arsene . I wouldn't expect no Mutd supporter to understand they won the title by him. RVP felt the only way to leave a sinking ship was to start a fire!!! The problem is we saw him pouring gas and a torch on his hand. We're top of the league n not broke! I would love to see Arsenal n Liverpool fighting til the end.

That was the main thing if Van Persie just left, it wouldn't have been as big of a problem. I think most people understood why he would want to leave, especially if he moved outside of the Prem.

But writing the letter basically shat on the club and treated the fans like idiots, it completely back fired on him and rightly so.

Then he also went to Man United which was just an extra dig on top. (Although I understand completely why he went there).

United needed this win way more than Arsenal and both the fans and team especially needed a big boost after what has been a fairly shakey season thus far. He gave em that. A lot of modern football is entertainment.. Or any sports for that matter. RvP knows full well what he is doing. I guess I understand the fans in the stands whose bright spot in life is going to footie games takes this all as some major offense... "normal" folks I expect to be capable of seeing the humor of it.
