Arsenal Thread

Walcott back to being his old self now he's signed a contract and not trying to impress probable clubs looking at him.

Did Wenger really say this was "his best squad of players ever" a few weeks ago?

If so I'll have some of what he's smoking. And I don't even smoke.

Same points as liverpool now lol

havent arsenal got games in hand over Liverpool though?

First goal was bullshit as well, how on earth was this not a foul on Coquelin?

How is it a foul?

How is it a foul?

are you being sarcastic?

If not, his tackle is high and the studs go down right on his foot/ankle?

Why can't we play a full 90mins playing football? why does it have to take a really shit first half to wake us up recently?! so frustrating.

After two minutes Chelsea should have got a penalty, Diaby did exactly the same thing as Koscielny last week against City (how stupid can one be). So Arsenal can't complain about the ref. There was also a foul on Torres when they scored their goal...

Agree that there was a foul before Chelsea's first goal...But it was a penalty. Just sawit from different angles, no dive at all...Szecsny did'nt even complain...

We lost because we played crap in the first half, that is it.

It needs to be sorted out big time and we need to play 90mins 100%

You see the second half of the game and you can see how well the team can perform....so why did the first half happen?!

We need a stronger bench with a couple of signings and a better attitude going into matches.

We have 3 home games now against West Ham, Liverpool and Stoke. We need to win all 3 basically otherwise our chances of getting 4th our slim to none.

Tough match, I thought 2-1 was about right. Arsenal got Atkinson'd' in the first goal, but I agree it could have been a pen early doors with Oscar going down. Soft, but have seen them given. It's a foul in the centre circle, as they say.

Good to say Arsenal respond well, but Chelsea should really have put the game to bed with their breaks. Torres showed some pace for the first time in what feels like ages, but his final touch is still awol.

2-1 felt deserved, Chelsea were the better team overall. Still, chance for Arsenal to kick on now with the home matches and march back up the table. I could be wrong, but if LFC win at Emirates as they'll be very close to overtaking the gunners!

Wenger needs to go now. Guy has lost the plot.

How many more years will arsenal supporter put up with no silverware?

Its not as if arsenal even play nice football these days either. Its predictable and toothless.

Without Wenger Arsenal wouldn't even be close to competing for CL places. Arsenal fans need to keep a longer term view.

They have some of the healthiest finances in non-Sugar-Daddy football. Period. That means that over time they can keep giving good contracts and keep bringing people in. It's easy to say that Arsenal would be better if they could spend like City or Chelsea - of course they would - but it ignores reality.

Arsene is biding his time for FFP to kick in. At that point, Arsenal will be very well placed imo. They are the second most profitable team in the EPL, and their results on the pitch will eventually start to follow that. Stadium paid off, big sold-out capacities every week and increased TV money. Sorted.

We cannot blame Walcott today. I think he did quite alright, scored a beautiful goal in a combination with Cazorla. And he put Giroud through early in the match. That should have been a goal.

As for Chelsea's goals I think we got the wrong end of the stick on both. I'll tend to be biased for supporting Arsenal, but for me 1st goal was a foul and then second goal Ramires got a moment of hesitation/indecision there and he probably saw that he wasn't gonna have a clear shot at goal after rounding Sczcesny. Mertesacker and Vermaelen were closing in.
For me that was a dive and if you watch a replay closely you will see that his right leg seeks contact with Sczcesny's.

Anyway, we need to pick ourselves up ASAP!

Good post Beach but will FFP actually work?

Aren't there lots of loop holes to exploit?

And we cant keep blaming sugar daddies for Arsenals decline. Man Utd have done fine without one.

I personallly think Wenger is a stubborn man who couldn't spot a good defender even if he drove himself into his office.

Not so sure Ramirez dived but he slipped on the snow

slipping on Sczcesny`s leg is back luck.On a clear day it may not be given. That`s pay back from Cazorla`s dive :P

If`s and Buts` who could say otherwise. You can`t resort to blaming others whiling failing in yours.

sometimes ignorance is bliss...step into the shade if the sun is bothering you. Why would you compare Arsenal to MUTD?? Let me explain to you why Mutd must win. The pressure at Arsenal is nowhere near Mutd. If , Mutd don`t win in a few years you nor many other fans around the world would stop supporting them . In , fact most of their dealings has an expectation for them. They`re the biggest club known on planet earth. So, they can`t afford marketing-wise and such to allow ManCity from the blue to come out and threaten their on going legacy (on-going is key). The fact that Fergie camped outside Wenger`s home is proof enough. He was desperate to land RVP at all cost! £24m for a 29yr old . Anyways , nevermind...

Are we gonna make it this year? I fear we wont make the CL next season as things look. Loosing to city chelsea Man u is unnacceptable... clearly!

Seems to me that Arsenal is at a point where it doesn't matter who they're playing. They just need consistency. It must be gut wrenching to be a Gunners fan this year with the fair amount of dramatic highs and lows. At least they *should* be able to rest some key players before Pool comes to town. No EPL opponent for Arsenal in the FA cup this week.

We have West Ham on Wednesday.

If we can get a win against them, get through the Fa cup (if we don't then I dispair) then we play Liverpool and Stoke at home in the league, we need to win them all to stand a chance. Liverpool look like they are getting into good form, Stoke are always tough for us and so will West Ham on Wednesday wih Allardyce managing them.

If we can play like the second half against Swansea and the second half against Chelsea for the whole match, then we have ahold chance. But there is something very wrong with our team mentally wih these eratic displays, it's just ridiculous.

I completely agree with Beach's post.
I also think that Arsenal will end up fourth.
Spurs' match against Man Utd convinced me that they will not end in the top 4. Spurs have a good first eleven (personally i would search another RB and Vertonghen would always be a starter for me, on top of that Spurs need a world class striker), but they lack the squad depth Arsenal have. Spurs were behind against Man Utd and look who AVB had to bring in: Huddlestone and Assou Ekoto, both are not good enough for a top 4 club.
Against Chelsea Wenger could bring in Arshavin, that says it all...in the end Arsenal will be above Spurs.
But if Wenger persists in playing Diaby Spurs might have a chance (oh and i was always a fan of Sagna, but lately he's being underachieving).

Diaby when he is fully fit will be a big asset....it's just if that will happen? or if he reaches full fitness, how many games he can play?

Sagna always used to be the one you can depend on, now it is like he is preoccupied with something else other than playing well for Arsenal. I could be imagining things, but ever since he hinted about moving at some point etc his performances have dropped (Probably me just taking more notice after he said it).

I hope you are right about 4th as it is looking more and more distant at the moment, we need Spurs to have a few bad games and us to go on a winning streak.

The thing with Arsenal at the moment which leaves me pulling out any hair I have left is that when we play, we can play very well, but we are very inconsistent with our performances....even within our performances they can be inconsistent (From 1st to 2nd half).

So we could easily go on a good run of games and just as easily not, it is very frustrating knowing you basically have a team that can perform much better but just doesn't for some unexplained reason.

what a shit first half from arsenal but a much better performance in the 2nd half.

questions need to be asked why they did not bother showing up in the 1st half.

is it down to just the players themselves or the manager?

Im sorry but arsenal wont get top 4. Liverpool will beat us easily when we play them soon and we still got to play spurs and united. both guaranteed loses right their.

Arsenal are hopeless. no bite, no teeth. just pure shit.

exactly which is why Wenger needs to move on. He doesnt seem hungry anymore. He keeps reeling out same excuses year after year.

Also do remember Arsenal are 3rd biggest club in the PL and their support is world wide - they NEED TO WIN SILVERWARE soon or the season tickets will stop being purchased.

Wenger needs 2 big marquee signings and soon. Its not like Arsenal dont have the money.

He cant keep trying to buy the PL on the cheap. Its not working and hasnt worked for many years.

There are better managers than Wenger out there now. I think Klopp would be perfect fit for Arsenal and would bring fresh ideas and hope to a team that just has no fight in them.

Why dont they have fight? This all because of the manager. Why cant Arsenal defend properly? This all because of the manager.

Why dont Arsenal have winning mentality? This all because of the manager.

We have fight, just happens to come in the second half after Wenger has told them how shit they are.

We are performing below what we should be doing and we need a couple of new quality players in. It is definitely Wengers fault that our team is mentally fragile and that we are a few players short and not buying in January (If we don't buy).

Again if he doesn't strengthen before the deadline and we continue the way we are, he will have to leave. He is not arranging the team properly and correcting our flaws.

I don't want him to leave, but really if this keeps going and he keeps sticking his fingers in his ears and going 'La La La' pretending that everything is ok, then the fans will be demanding for a change.

If he thinks we have the players to do well now, he has to do everything in his power to stop them performing crap in the 1st half of games, stop our defenders from fucking up etc

It is very sad, I don't want Wenger to go and I fear for Arsenal if he does, because I feel we will not get a better manager and we will struggle for years. But It is getting to the point where it is just too hard to justify what Wenger is doing at the moment.

Hopefully he turns it around in the last half of the season, beginning with the next 3 home games....I really do hope so.

what is the feeling like in the stadium regarding Wenger, Bobby? Is it split 50 50 or do the majority still support him?

I thinks Arsène realizes that he hasn't got the financial means to buy world class players.
I'm not sure if this team is worse than last year's but last year Van Persie's goals made a huge difference (just like they do now for a rather mediocre Man Utd team).

I don't think Arsenal should fire Wenger, but questions need to be asked. A player like Arshavin should either be sold or should be a regualr first team player. Why buy strikers (Chamakh, Park and now Giroud) if you play a winger as a CF and why play a CMF as a SMF (Ramsey).

good post/reply ... It`s just Wenger has an excuse clause. He said back in `07 to judge him in 2yrs that was (`09)4yrs ago and only now the pressure is squeezing him. Selling the creme of the crop just extended his excuses.

AN excuse head produces excuse players...Notice Fergie no excuses produce no excuse players (wages, trophies)

Arsenal have no fight like gerd said when players have to learn a position. Vertonghen didn`t join Arsenal ,because Wenger wanted to play him out of position (DM) Pod had a taste upfront and started to complain about playing his normal position LW  Wenger had Cazorla on the wings and was basically invisible ,its mad when you lose your normal position and look lost.
Henry was a success playing (LW to ST) RvP (CF to ST) a more direct approach imo everyone else looks like a FUT chemistry on 3

Benni, I haven't been to a game for a couple of seasons now, as I live abroad so I am not the best one to ask about it? Jonney can tell you, he paid 250 quid the other day to see the Man City game :PP

Gerd, Giroud is playing and has scored a few goals and set up a few, he isn't doing too bad. Walcott was played central to get him to sign a contract, I think Wenger has realised that it works against less physical defences, otherwise most of the time Giroud needs to be in the centre.

I don't blame Wenger completely for Chamakh as he played well to begin with and then Van Persie came back and whenever Wenger played Chamakh after that he wasn't very good and he must have been the same in training for Wenger to completely go off of somebody like that.

Park will always be a wonder and is one of the strangest buys Wenger has ever made.

Ramsey is looking good recently and needs to play centrally I agree, he is a good player and needs to be able to show it and get fans off of his back.

Arshavin could have gone to Russia after his Loan there, but he wanted to stay in London by all accounts...and pick up his pay cheque.

The main question for me isn't about players in or out for me, because I think our actual first 11 can be very good. The questions are why they can't all perform at the same time. We always have the odd good performance from a couple of players a game and with that a couple of bad performances from others etc. So we really do not have a team of players in sync with each other in my opinion, it goes back to mentality and the buck has to stop with Wenger, either for buying players like this or creating players that have a weak mentality in certain areas.

But this is the thing when we get Podolski, Arteta and The Ox back (Which should be soon), we pretty much have an injury free team with a lot of quality. So we can beat any team in the league on our day imo, this is what is so frustrating for me.

If Diaby can get a few more games and carry on as well, he could be vital for us, but we can't rely on him that is the problem.

You know what is IMO the most worrying thing for Arsenal: Cazorla is not the player he was at the the beginning of the season. Of course that can be temporary, but it's still worrying.

Here was one of the potentially best EPL players and somehow he is (relatively) underachieving...

There are certain parallels with Hazard (and please forget that he is Belgian, for all i care he is from Samoa). Hazard had a flying start and then had a period were he was less good. Yet Hazard continued to play football like he is used to do it: very technically and with lots of risk in his game. The last 3 or 4 matches Hazard is once again brilliant (he proved he can do it against Stoke in winter albeit not ona thursday evening), while it seems Cazorla is more timid on the pitch...maybe it's just a coïncidence, but IMo it is a litle bit worrying from Arsenal's point of view.

I think he just needs a rest to be honest, wih most of our midfield players coming back and podolski I think we can afford to play him for a half here and there for the next couple of games....and not play him against Brighton as well.
