Arsenal Thread

I'm honest I would hate a suger daddy to own our club and spend billions on our team putting us on the debt. Hell no.

One thing u should know is if don't like hypocrites and therefore anything I say I hate about a club applies to my club as well.

For example I hate cheating diving players and we have had a few that I have disliked at arsenal such as Eboue.

I'm being pretty honest as well, doing a Chelsea and having your manager change every year is a one of the major reasons I would hate it. It will happen with Man City as well (has already done to some extent). Knowing that if you don't win something your manager is gone etc etc

Wenger is frustrating and it may be nearing to his end at Arsenal, but I love how he moulded the team, how long he has been with us and the connection he has with the club and the leeway he has been given.

I think you lose a connection with your team when you have a lot of changes in management and players (the players bit goes for Arsenal at the moment I know).

But that is just me, it would have been really nice to have won things, but not at the expense of other things I think are more important.

Shit...

Well i, i should have known better. That is perhaps one of the reasons why i respect both of you.
It's funny that i as a Spurs fan have a couple of Arsenal fans among the people i respect most here (and there are others in this thread i like too).

Well, i guess you win some and you loose some.

About changing managers. If i can believe Conns book and the interview he had with the Abu Dhabi guy who is acting on behalf of Mansour at Manchester City, the one decision he hated most was sacking Hughes and the way they had to do it (negociating with Mancini before Hughes knew that he would be sacked). The guy would do it again because he thought Hughes was not good enough. Can anybody argue with that assessment at the moment ? Hughes hasn't been exactly a big success after Man City.

You should read the Conn's book, it is one of the best football books i've read lately. The guy is a fan, but he is very critical and he is one of the best journalists around...

Also a lot of our old board had put a lot of their lives into Arsenal and built the club up to what it is now. It is different now which isn't for the best, but back then they were all about building Arsenal up and making it one of the best.

I get what you are saying Gerd and some of it is undeniable, of course we all come out of this topic looking like hypocrites but I also think there is a big difference between the sugar daddy clubs and the likes of Arsenal etc

Arsenal have been superb. a complete different side to last saturday and gerd u are one of the most admirable spurs fans i know on the net

I wouldn't say Superb, but I am happy with how they are playing. Good to see Rosicky back, if he can keep fit and play any where near where he was last season he will be a great asset.

Lets hope we can get another and go into Saturday on the back of a good win.

We seemed to lack when Rosicky was taken off.

Still we are through and away at Olympiacos with a second string team was always going to be a big ask to win.

Ramsey gets a lot of stick but at times he was the only won trying to do things. Trying risky through balls, getting stuck in etc He trys to do things and open up play, just a shame it isn't coming off for him that much at the moment. I really don't know why people are so against him, he fights for the team and doesn't give less than 100% imo.

I just hope the fans lay off of him a bit, because I still think he can be a really good player for us.

Anyway, onto the must win game on Saturday! Hopefully all of our first team are rested now and give everything in that game.

Ramsey is going down hill fast mate. He tries too much all the time 'clueless' . Gervinho runs fast on the break ,then stops and wait 'clueless' . I think Mead at fullback was very good he played it safe. Sometimes safe is safer then trying to dribble it out of danger.

Poor Arsenal, they even lost from poor Olympiacos, the team that steals greek football for 15 years and goes to champions league and is getting embarassed every year! LOL!

All the greek fans except Olympiacos's fans are accusing Olympiacos for dirty matches, ref controlling etc. 15 years Olympiacos is dominating the greek league by using all the dirty ways. Their owner-president Marinakis faces court accusations for staged games and violence undermining! Every year Olympiacos gets 15-20 millions from cl qualifications. The gap with the other greek teams is huge today because of this dirty system that Olympiacos used to win domestic championships. After 15 years they havent one success in cl! 15 years! All they have is horrible defeats in cl (7-0 by juventus etc). Not even an important qualification! Everybody in Greece laughs with Olympiacos. Half of Greece celebrates when Olympiacos loses in europe. Olympiacos destroyed greek football. No one even care about the league. We know the champion before league starts. Tragic...

Arsenal lost from this team today. Olympiacos Europe's loosers...LOL

I really don't think so, if the fans give him a bit more of a break he should feel more relaxed and play better. I think he is definitely guilty of trying too hard. I still think he has it in him to be successful at Arsenal.

Gervinho is the most frustrating player, his vision sucks most of the time, his assist was really good yesterday, but too many times he tries to run and take people on without looking up for the better option. If he can combine his pace and skill at taking people on and improve his decision making and vision, then he has a chance. It's like he just runs and all be is looking at is the guy be is going to take on, he should be aware of team mates around him when he picks up the ball so s he is running and about to take on a player he can decide what is better.

I still have hope for both, but Ramsey I think is definitely not as bad as people say.

I don't believe a damn from all what you are writing.
I saw both Olympiakos and your team AEK against Belgium teams.
Olympiakos were far from a bad team (against Standard, when they were in the same group with Arsenal). I also saw AEK twice against Anderlecht, speaking about loosers...boy did they suck. I guess UEFA and the ref were against them.

Sometimes i wish people should pass minimal intelligence tests before they can post on forums like this...i'm a litle bit fed up with all the Greek and Turkish conspiracy theories on this forum. I don't really care what happens in your leagues but leave us alone with your useless posts who are only meant as being provocative or who are utterly ridiculous...I have nothing against Greek and Turkish people, but sometimes...

Don't want to offend you but for what reason where you gloating in a club thread. Arsenal lost against Olympiakos...so what?

Oh and for your information, i'm a Spurs fan. I am supposed to be gloating in here...well i don't.

Sorry for this rant.

Your words proves exactly my words. The reason that AEK is not a good team (not only aek but evey greek team except Olympiacos) the past 10 years is because Olympiacos stole all the championships from 1996 and after. He has all the cl million euros and makes a "good" team. But define good team. Good team vs belgium teams that are weak in Europe? LOL! Tell me after 15 years in cl, one achievement of Olympiacos! There is none! Thats why the rest of greek people laughs at Olympiacos! Thats the truth believe it or not...

Greek football is ruined totally...By Olympiacos. They only win Arsenal 3 straight years in final game in group stages at Karaiskakis, where Arsenal comes with all the substitutes and disinterested. LOL

I made this post just to show that its a disgrace for Arsenal losing from Olympiacos. Not one but three times!!!

I hope that they continue to cheat in your league :PP

 :SMUG:

Blimey, I said I wasn't very interested in yesterday's match but I still watched it. The highlight of the night was the Jack Daniels I was drinking at home

I don't care that Arsenal finished 2nd, especially when you look at City with all that money being sodomised in their group and not getting even Europa League... and looking at Chelsea's task tonight, I think we could have been in a much worse position.

But if we talk about the game itself, that was very poor again from Arsenal. Our goal was an isolated fact that doesn't paint the real picture of what was happening. They were actually playing better by that time.

Vermaelen was playing great in the 1st half and then he was all over the place in the 2nd half. Look at their first goal, him and Squilaci running out of the box before the cross! What are our centre halves thinking?

Gervinho made the first goal, well taken by Rosicky, but I still don't rate the Ivorian highly. He seems to just drop his head down and run at anything in front of him, even if there are 5 opponents. There was a time yesterday when he literally tried to dribble past 4 or 5 guys!
I don't know how Wenger reacts to that. I know he gets angry at people having a long range shot, for "wasting possession", but what Gervinho often does is worse. I prefer someone actually having a shot than giving it away so cheaply.

That's where I think Arshavin is more menacing, because he will hit some shots on target. But in all fairness, when he came on in the 2nd half, the Russian looked defeated. He looks like a hopeless, broken man. He has the ability, but the attitude has been negative (and being benched by an improvised Ramsey doesn't help your self esteem).

Now, on to Ramsey. I'm not gonna be quick to slam him here, because the boy clearly isn't the same player he was before the injury. All due to that almighty cunt Shawcross and that Stoke manager who encourages that kind of stance.
Ramsey seems lost, with almost no confidence. I am actually shocked that Wenger is insisting so much and exposing him to this degree. He's been overplayed, he didn't have a summer break, having played for Great Britain in the Olympics.
But you know what's worse? Is playing the boy as a freaking winger!! It does my head in!
I don't know how the hell Wenger came up with this idea and why the hell he thought it could work. The boy is already devoid of confidence as it is, so playing him improvised in another position is a terrible mistake by Wenger IMO.

There was a particular chance in the 1st half when Chamakh headed a ball to the middle and if fell neatly for Ramsey, but he flunked his left-footed shot miserably, almost missing the ball completely, and it the buildup he still chases the ball, only to accidentally dribble it past the byline. It was truly pitiful.
I may be a pessimist, but I think that passage of play sums up perfectly what it is to play Ramsey as an attacker.

I'm really worried about WBA this weekend now. I have serious doubts we can win this one.

EDIT: yesterday I now recall seeing Gervinho, Oxlade-Chamberlain and Chamakh as the attacking trio. So Ramsey wasn't a winger last night, but I stand by everything I wrote about playing him there on other matches.

I still think he has it in him, he had half a season when he came back after injury when he was great, so I think it is definitely still in him to get back into good form.

The only thing I can see happening now though is that the supporters getting more and more on his back and his confidence getting lower and lower. So his best bet might be to go to another team. But I really think he can come good, he needs a couple of good games and he can get out of it.

His confidence is low but he is still trying brave passes and getting into great positions, just that it isn't coming off at the moment. A lot of people that have been given this amount of abuse would hide and try simple things, he has the balls to still go out there and prove people wrong and I hope he continues to do so.

I also think it is a bit mad to play him in the wide attacking positions, but he has had one good game there and another ok one from what I can remember. But it is in the centre where he needs to be, before Jacks injury the two of them were playing well together and it looked really promising.

I hope he gets through it and does really well.

this is worst arsenal side I've seen in a very long time.

wenger needs to go. Laudrup in - new ideas and spend some money the supporter deserve it.

funny reading through first 100 pages of this thread - arsenal fans were so cocky back then :D

We definitely need attacking power.

Phil McNulty at BBC suggests now that Sagna wants out...

He is probably going on what Sagna said earlier this year? It's no surprise to me, as soon as I heard Sagna talking like that I thought the chances are that he might want to leave. We can keep him for another season though so have time to get a replacement. Although it will be hard to replace him.

We have 6 games where we have to get near maximum points before we play Man City, Chelsea and then Liverpool from mid to late Jan (all in a row!).

So the next 6 games we need to buck up our ideas, otherwise we are toast. 3 home games and 3 away games....so with the way we are playing at the moment etc It is going to be super tough.

Some ray of light needs to come down on us, I think Rosicky might be that Ray :)) I am praying he can get back to how he was last season and hopefully the other players react to him and buck up their ideas.

Wow mate ... have known you for a long time on this forum, and that is the first time i think your patience has snapped! :)

Good post though - domestic league conspiracies spilling into a pan-European tournament should not up for discussion based on bias, here-say and conjecture.

I'm sure some of you folks saw this floating around the interweb already but figured I'd paste it in here for those who haven't. Hope the Arsenal fans can see the humor in it:

Though Robin van Persie did what he could to force Arsene Wenger to sell him to Manchester United in the offseason, the Arsenal manager says the two still keep in contact. "He texts me sometimes, We keep in touch. He tells me he still watches Arsenal games,'' says Wenger. The following is a transcript of their latest texting session.

RVP: Top of the table. How's seventh place? ;)
Wenger: Stuff it, placenta face. Without you, United would be 12th. Ask Ferguson who's too dependent on you now!
RVP: Whatever. We r going to win a bunch of silverware. Good luck going 4 your invisible 4th place trophy.
Wenger: And good luck not getting hurt. The chances of you making it through the season without an injury are about as good as Cesc Fabregas starting five matches in a row for Barcelona.
RVP: Speaking of injuries I heard Theo Walcott is looking 4 houses in Manchester. And Liverpool. And Italy. LOL
Wenger: I don't care if he leaves! He grew an awful mustache and now I hate his face.
RVP: Suuuure. :)
Wenger: Stop with the emoticons. They make you look like a turd a.k.a. Andrei Arshavin.
RVP: A.k.a the one player who won't leave Arsenal. Besides Gervinho.
Wenger: Why are you texting me? Don't you have to feed Rooney a raw steak before midnight or something?
RVP: Just wanted 2 say congratulations on that 0-0 draw against Aston Villa last week. Reminded me that I made the right decision.
Wenger: You can't even spell out the word "to"? I really can't wait until Paul Scholes tackles you in the neck during training.
RVP: Don't be mean, Arsene, or I won't come back on loan when I'm 50 like Thierry Henry.
Wenger: THIERRY HENRY IS A GOD AMONG MEN AND HIS NAME IS TOO GOOD FOR YOUR DELICATE THUMBS
RVP: Easy there. You'll pop your puffer coat.
Wenger: I should have never told you that I wear it to bed. Why am I even talking to you? You've been dead to me since August. P.S. If you ever give any of your clothing to Andre Santos again I will burn your house down.
RVP: OK, Arsene. I'll be sure to give the Premier League trophy a kiss for you. Bye.
Wenger: And I'll give your grandmother a kiss for you.
RVP: That's gross, Arsene.
Wenger: That's not what she said.
