Arsenal Thread

I'll be damned! The deal is done, he passed a medical and agreed terms... well, it was supposed to be good news, a good player coming in is always great, but it was for £12M + £3M on bonuses! A lot of cash for a youngster, in a position we have plenty already.

This is a slap in our faces, breaking the club's transfer record on someone we don't really need.

Now I'll be expecting to see us paying £20M for Jagielka, or £17M for Cahill or £12M for Samba, and meeting the £25M clause for Mata, otherwise this won't make any sense whatsoever.

Samba is a player who would cost £12M, demonstrated he would like to play for Arsenal and has said he's tired to fight against relegation. In other words, an experienced, ambitious player full of fight in him.
Yet Wenger refuses to meet his fee and uses the funds on yet another 17-year-old

It's getting harder and harder to back Wenger.

Poor player...he will never get a chance from "fans" like you. And what if he turns out to be the new Henry?

Give him at least a chance...

The problem you'll face now is teams saying the likes of "Well you paid £12m+ for OC, Jagielka/Cahill/Dann/Samba/Mata is worth far more than that value and so we now want X amount because we know you have money."

Whoosh!

I'm not sure you understand the reasons for the anger. I'm sure Arsenal fans would want OC, he's probably going to be a good player. But at this time, a centre-back is FAR more important but Wenger is messing around with small bids trying to lowball teams when he's just spent £12m+ on a player who's not likely to make an impact for a few years. Meanwhile the defence is in desperate need of reinforcing.

Crazy. Unless Wenger has a deal already agreed with a team/player for a CB, this makes no real sense and the fans turning on Wenger might even mean that he wont even get to see OC become the Arsenal player he expects as he might not be Arsenal manager too much longer.

or maybe he will be played as CB..

no realy, Arsenal need players in other positions..but maybe sometimes they need to take this risk on young players..becouse other top english teams were also after him..

Chances are, when this kid comes good, at around 22, he will leave on a free to City or Chelsea anyway, to earn 120,000 or +

that´s so true...

don`t think City will be around in 5 years from now. Getting a young Englishmen is good business they`ll be MORE loyal to a club they know about than a frenchie or Spanish players. I think it is £7m upfront and add-ons £10m at best. Arshavin was 12m + add-ons that didnt get would of been 17m.

imo the only reason Rooney is not a City player right now is Ferguson.

:TTTH: bs, he never once turned round or hinted he wanted to go to citeh, why leave united to a club ur decreasing ur chances of winning titles? thats like me saying only reason gerard stayed with liverpool was due to benitez but thats now always how football works.

I don't understand your "logics" Gerd, sometimes I try hard :)

I'm not writing off the player himself, as I said, it's always good to bring in talent. Especially because he was highly coveted and was a target for Liverpool and Man Utd.

What I'd like to emphasize about my discontent is precisely what DagsJT pointed out on his post.

If this new wonderkid of ours turns into the new Henry? Great, we hit the jackpot! But let me remind you that he's just a prospect and he already cost Arsenal more than Henry himself.

Plus, this is not pertinent to what I'm questioning. The player could turn into Pelé, and we would still be short of quality at the back unless we make significant investment.

OC becomes 18 next Monday! This was very , very fast medical n deal done same day :CONFUSE: Arsenal.com

Im shock too ! but Arsenal has more English than frenchies .Rodwell is going for £10m and maybe tomorrow we get a medical n completed done deal :BOP:

well, you know what I mean from players leaving Arsenal from the past 6 yrs. The only foreigner that I see is different is RVP he`s been at the Arsenal for years and still have that status from the Bergkamp blood line.

Rooney is different he held his club for ransom I`m sure his agent was the engine behind that motive . Beside those lunatic mutd fans showing up at your house did help  Fergie had f`all to do with it same with Gerrard the scousers attack his home too! a U-turn w/o the funds ....:COAT: My theory is a player that`s English base knows the history of a club and not the bank details for taxes.

His barefooted photos are funny! Our new beach soccer signing

Spurs were linked with him too. :(

yeah they what to swap him for crouchy not sure that make sense w/ diarrra on his way to blazing tottenham . Nothing is certain I just think Rodwell is a player Wenger would get a DM that plays CB too! Song is the only DM that plays CB ,but Rodwell height fits the bill all speculation from my part. Rodwell hasnt been link it just make sense .

-Jagielka/Samba/Cahill (Maybe two of these, or one with a left back)
-Mata
-DMF
-If Fabregas leaves, a suitable replacement. Gourcuff? Lucho Gonzalez?

And man I'm so impressed by Benfica. Such a solid team. We should try to get some of their talents. Luisao is better than any defender we have. This is an indicator of the quality of our squad. No offense to Benfica, but on paper you expect Arsenal to have a much more established and powerful roster.

Your impressed by that Benfica side? well that dortmund side is probably player the best football in europe ...and are going to take the champion league by storm... Matt hummel is the kind of CB we need a strong and inteligent CB that can playmake from the back.

Mario gotze and kagawa are the type of player that could replace fab. but wont happen this year.

I'm not saying you are totally wrong. But i don't think we can judge Wenger at the moment. Transfers sometimes have a weird logic. I'm pretty sure that Wenger is also trying to get a CB and that that is his first priority....but somewhere along the way this opportunity presented itself.

In the Serie A thread, lo zio expressed his frustration about the prize Palermo asked for their bright young GK Sirigu. A couple of days later it turned out to be a package deal with Pastore and then lo zio himself was the first to acknowledge that after all it made sense. I'm not saying that this particular transfer is part of a package deal. Im' just saying that you can't judge too soon. Wait till the transfer period is over and judge then. Maybe Arsenal by then will have the best CB and the best DMF in the world...

The transfer market is a weird thing. Look at the past, you need one huge transfer and then activity starts all around. Has there been a huge transfer yet? I'm not so sure. There is one club that is extremely active: PSG. This will have for consequence that other French teams and a team like Palermo will have money and will do transfer.. This might start the chain reaction or maybe Aguero's transfer might start a chain reaction...but the beneficiaries will be in Spain. I think the problem is that there haven't been huge tranfers between English clubs...

I'm gonna try to illustrate my point with the Belgian trnasfer market. On the Belgian market everuthing is relatively calm because everybody expect big transfers from Belgian players to foreign clubs. We are talking about players like Lukaku, Courtois, De Bruyne, Vossen. Courtois has left Genk, but Genk has no certainty about the CL (yet?) and so they wait. Anderlecht has sold Lukaku but his replacement will be Mbokani from Monaco. De Bruyne is injured and will stay. No news about Vossen. Witsel went to Benfica and Standard replaced him by an Uruguayan player wo played for Valencia...All the money those clubs got went to foreign clubs...so the market in Belgium stays closed...Something similar happens in England and that is why Arsene can't make huge deals at the moment (don't forget we are in the middle of a financial crisis too).

He'll get injured next week.

Don't know why the fans are so negative, after all they have been asking for a big-name signing for awhile now!

I'll get my coat....(and the joke is from football365)

After writing my previous post, i just read that Arsenal would be prepared to agree with the transfer of Nasri to Man City. Ironically this might "unblock the market" in England. It's rather logical that Arsenal are the first to give in, in this game of poker since they are the team that are most in need of reïnforcements (together with Spurs, who have and even quiter summer than Arsenal). Once Nasri is sold things could accelerate and it is very well possible that we may see some more spectacular transfers (in general).

We have been after Alex for a long time now and it was no suprise that we finally got him, the price has been touted aswell for such a long time, so i don't know why people are going that crazy about it?

If Vermaelens injury is for a substancial period of time, then we definately need a new centre back and I am hoping we get one in the next week or so.

I also don't think it is a bad thing to get a young hungry player in to play games for us. As I said before, if we become more decisive up front, then we can worry less about how shit our defence is. We have more options up front, so if Arshavin or Walcott get injured (or have bad spells) we can mix it up quite a bit more and hopefully get more success, hopefully it will give them a kick up the arse aswell.

Last season, if we put away half of our chances, then it wouldn't have mattered with the goals we shipped in. So i can see why we are improving our attack a bit more.

But like everybody I would like to see another defender in place.

Also if we get rid of Bendtner I just hope Chamack gets a grip of himself, or we could be in trouble up front aswell if Van Persies injury woes continue. I would like to keep Bendtner, I know I'm the only one :DD

How do u know that?

That would be actualy great Rodwell +CB!!

I was thinking that too! Signing Rodwell is like killing two birds with one stone, covering the DMF and CB spots at the same time. 9M + Crouch seem exaggerated though.

I subscribe Gerd's post. There will be a massive transfer chain reaction over the next weeks as a consequence of Aguero's depart.

i cannot believe wenger spent 12m on a fucking kid who looks like one of those yobs who was rioting in tottenham.

i give up. arsenal are becoming from bad to worse. sick of Wengers decisions and management. the day he goes i will be celebrating as if we won the champions league

Yeah wasn't the best comment by Jonney.

He is highly regarded Jonney and lots of clubs wanted him. We paid for him now (we have been after him for a couple of seasons) we could have waited until next season, but he may have cost more or gone somewhere else.

And why not get him now? because some fans will get pissed off?

I think Jonney will never be satisfied until Wenger gets the sack, even if Arsenal would win silverware this year, he will not be satisfied...
