Gunners must wait for Nasri
French midfielder's move to Arsenal is put on hold
By Chris Burton Last updated: 3rd June 2008

Arsenal are unlikely to complete a move for Marseille starlet Samir Nasri until after Euro 2008.

The French international tops the Gunners' wanted list, but negotiations are taking longer than expected.

It had been reported that the midfielder had already agreed terms at Emirates Stadium and would put pen-to-paper on a four-year deal before the European Championship gets underway on Saturday.

However, that scenario now appears to have been scuppered and Arsene Wenger must wait until the 20-year-old returns from international duty before finalising the deal.

"Nasri interests me," said the Arsenal boss.

"I hope I will do it after the Euros. It is more complicated now because the wage differences (between the Premier League and Ligue 1) are not as big as they used to be.

"Just look at Karim Benzema. He is 20 and recently signed a new deal with Lyon.

"England is considered one of the two top leagues and the best players want to play against the best players."

Wenger has targeted Nasri as a direct replacement for the Barcelona-bound Alexander Hleb.

The Belarusian is expected to complete a move to Camp Nou in the next few days, with the £12million transfer fee helping to fund a move for his successor.

Anelka rues Gunners departure
Chelsea striker reminisces on past decisions
By Chris Burton Last updated: 3rd June 2008

Anelka: Poor choices

Nicolas Anelka claims his career took a turn for the worse once he made the decision to leave Arsenal.

The French international shot to prominence as a teenage sensation during a productive two-year spell with the Gunners between 1997 and 1999.

However, despite going on to represent some of the world's biggest clubs, including winning the UEFA Champions League during his time with Real Madrid, the striker believes he was wrong to quit North London so soon.

His ability has never been in question, but his attitude has, at times, seen him earn an unwanted reputation as a player who is difficult to work with.

Anelka insists that is not the case, but admits that he made a number of naive decisions during his early years as a professional.

"Everyone makes mistakes in life and I can say that I made one in leaving Arsenal," said the Chelsea hit-man.

"That is because things have gone badly for me since then.

"But I could not know what the future held in store for me.

"I could have spent my entire career at Arsenal. I took decisions thinking I was doing the right thing.

"If I had my time again I would do things differently. I made my decisions thinking they were the right ones at the time.

"My life has not gone as I imagined it would. There have been highs and lows and I have experienced things I did not want to. I have been labelled a spoiled child but why - because I chose to do what I wanted?

"I am now more mature and confident than I was at 20."

Chelsea spent £15million to take Anelka to Stamford Bridge in January, and despite high expectations he has failed to shine on his return to the capital.

He has blamed former Blues boss Avram Grant's policy of playing him as a winger for his failure to settle and has urged any potential new coach to return him to his favoured position down the middle.

"My wish is to play behind the main striker as that is where I feel I'm most useful," he said.

WENGER REFUSES TO BRAND REFEREES A BUNCH OF MAN UTD LOVING BASTARDS

ARSENAL manager Arsene Wenger last night refused to condemn referees as a collection of bastards who would do anything to help Manchester United win the league.

Wenger asks the prime minister why he hasn't killed all the refereesAs his team's title hopes came to an end, Wenger remained tight-lipped on the penalty and free kick decisions made by a man who probably has Ronaldo posters on his wall and dreams of tender, post-coital snuggling with Ryan Giggs.

The Arsenal manager said: "I do not want to say anything about the way they cheat and what bastards they are.

"There is also no way I'm going to accuse them of giving away penalties like they were romantic gifts for their Old Trafford lover boys."

He added: "I would never claim that referees hold secret meetings to plot how they can thwart me, before praying to a giant, golden statue of that miserable, Glaswegian halfwit.

"Nor will I speculate that more than half of all premier league referees lie awake at night thinking about rubbing their excited hands all over Wayne Rooney's lightly oiled buttocks."

A spokesman for the Referee's Association said: "As Mr Wenger points out, all premier league referees are completely impartial and would never favour one team of towering, Cheshire-based superheroes over another consisting largely of sweaty, malodourous Frenchmen."

:LOL::LOL::LOL:

I really, really hope the Nasri deal is done. I read that Valencia have put up David Villa for sale. Last year his price was 30M, but now its only 17M. I think, now, if we buy him, it could be Good.

Lehmann signs deal with Stuttgart

Arsenal goalkeeper Jens Lehmann has signed for German club VFB Stuttgart after agreeing a one-year deal.

Out of contract this summer, the 38-year-old fell out of favour with Arsenal last season and lost his place to Manuel Almunia.

But he retained his place with the national team and is expected to start for Germany in Euro 2008.

"His qualities are undeniable and the team will benefit from his experience," Stuttgart coach Armin Veh said.

"Jens was our top candidate from the very beginning for the goalkeeper position," Veh told Stuttgart's website.

Lehmann, who played for Schalke and Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga, will compete with Raphael Schafer for the goalkeeping position at Stuttgart.

Lehmann's exit, though expected, is likely to persuade Arsene Wenger to recruit a new goalkeeper.

The Arsenal manager currently has Almunia as his number one, with Polish international Lukasz Fabianski a highly-rated, but relatively inexperienced, second keeper.

Thanks Mad Jens for the great memories. All the best of the future.

Here are my top three saves .......

1) CL Semi Final vs Villarreal 2005-2006

2) CL Quarter Final vs Real Madrid 2005-2006

3) FA Cup Final vs Man Utd 2005

So, Officially 2 players left, 1 unofficial.
and only 1 player has come, and that too is unofficial.
I hope we do make some good signings before those players go to some other clubs.

Chelsea already got Bosingwa, United got Ramsey, Liverpool got Degen and Dossena and we are still hovering over. I hoped that the Nasri deal would be done but now again its after Euro.

^^ 1 min 23 into that vid is one of THE best saves I have ever seen in the flesh. He was falling back and I am still not sure to this day how he kept it out!

Sources in Italy(unknown sources) are saying that Adebayor has already agreed for a move to Milan. Arsenal have asked for around 35M for him. I dont think Milan would ever pay such a huge amount for this player. Besides i'm not worried much if he goes really becoz i'm very sure Wenger would get David Villa.

Its the complete opposite of what he said on tv. He said they are negotiating with Chelsea for Drogba and with Barcelona for Eto'o. ITS ILLEGAL to agree with the player before the club say its ok. And its known that our maximum budget is £25m... yet the media says we are willing to pay up to £35m!

I wonder how "Adebayor, He scores 1 in 4, Adebayor" would sound in Italian :D

EDIT: "Adebayor, spara 1 fuori di 4, Adebayor" doesn't have the same ring :(
