Arsenal Thread

Why are you all so negative???? He's done a lot for Arsenal in the last 4 years. I think he'll be a success. I'm quite sure he will be starting ALONGSIDE Gattuso, with Ambrosini being put on the bench. Beboq, Vieira left Arsenal to Juve/Inter and is now becoming so influential, I think at the same levels Vieira reached at his peak with Arsenal. I'm not saying Flamini's move was the right thing to do, but come on he's done his role!!!! Stop being so bitter!!!!

Oh yeah, Anelka left at a young age and did great things ;)

Reyes went and was a flop.

Flamini will flop im Milan just wait, he has got that contract on the back of 6 months of great form. He is nowhere near the level that Gattuso used to be at.

I am pretty sure Flamini will only improve, under a world class manager like Ancelotti. Don't be so bitter.

Ben is right, he wasn't born in London, is not an Arsenal supporter. Any player will consider a move from Arsenal to AC Milan a forward move in their playing career, and that's a fact.

Yes, he will improve, as long as he isn't used as sparingly as Gourcuff.

afterall, if u were a football player, playing for a team wich is not your hometown team (not the team u used to support when u were a child) and if galliani would tell u "come in milan and i will give u a wage 3 times bigger than the wage u get at your current club", would u say "no, coz i think my current team has a bright future"...???

It wasn't 3 times his salary was it? - I think it was 10 grand a week extra. Which is still a pretty penny :DD

Honestly I am fine with players leaving if they don't want to play for us - I only want players who want to be here- stay. Thats why I want Hleb to leave because he is a wingy little Git.

Us Arsenal Suppporters are just so frustrated by having a team that could do so much - and our good players are leaving. It gets depressing after a while.

I am sure if we kept Flamini and bought a couple of more signings - then we had a great chance of winning the league next season. Now I'm not so sure. As having a partnership that Fab and Flamini had, is in someways priceless and takes time to develop.

When the Premiership starts again - you don't get anytime to practice. I don't want another 'Transitional' season. I want to bloody win things again!!

and the more players that were effective last season that leave, the less chance we have of winning - I think anyway.

Hopefully I am wrong and our new signings - whoever they may be, fit into the prem well and Dazzle us all - that would be amazing!!! :DD

and what happen to Reyes? ;)) What Arsenal player leaves and becomes greater? please do tell anyone?

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/main.jhtml?xml=/sport/2008/05/21/ufnnasri121.xml I think he`s too light weight , but I could be wrong

Nah, trust me, he's very good. I'm pretty sure him and Fabregas will get perfectly along. I'd rather have Nasri than Ben Arfa (which has way too much ego to have team spirit, even if he's very talented).

Nasri has to improve, but I'm pretty sure he will. Plus, he made the choice to leave to the right team. Last year, Real madrid wanted a transfer, as well as Lyon, and he said no.

I am sad he has left not bitter, just fed up with the lack of loyalty of so many of today's players, they then try and dress up the reasons for leaving.

@ Milanista - The Flamster did well for us for 4 years? He had a run at left back in our 2006 CL run when he was brilliant. The season after that he hardly played. Last season he was great from Aug to early Feb, he was poor after that.

Don't get me wrong he is a good player (thats why I am sad he has left) but I feel he could have stayed around a little while longer whilst Wenger's project comes to fruition.

i absolutely understand your points, clockender and bobby, and i can actually see most of u guys are just sad and not bitter about flamini's departure (wich is a sharable feeling).
me too, being a neutral, i'm quite disappointed to see one of the last season best midfield partnership being broken (even though i'm happy for my friends milanisti, as stefano here ;))).

and i do also agree with u about how silly is to find stupid excuses for leaving, hiding the real reasons (coz they are absolutely understandable and there would be nothing to be ashamed about in saying it clear)....
but then again, they're just footballers, u can't really expect a clever or classy attitude from most of them :DD;))

flamini is interviewing and said we had a chance to keep him so it's are fault. That my friend is bitter, if he left and said I want to play here that's fine . Why come and talk like he was forced out....he will get everything that he deserve.I truly feel he left more cause of he rumor of Fab's pay raise early in the season and he feels Fab has what he does due to his work rate(flamini). No one here is bitter

ok, so Nasri covers the playmaker part.
Let's move on from this Flamini. who would fill his place? :) Makoun, Kompany?
since a Dmf is the obvious next transfer, what would be the possible third transfer Wenger was talking about? A new goalkeeper, a Center Back?

Should answer your question about Flamini's cover;

GUNNERS SET FOR NASRI SWOOP
Posted 21/05/08 09:17

Arsenal are closing in on a triple French swoop with Samir Nasri, Clement Chantome and Francis Coquelin all understood to be on the verge of moving to north London.

The biggest of the three deals is that for Nasri, who only recently signed a new long-term contract with Marseille.

But l'OM have agreed to let him leave as they hope to sign Hatem Ben Arfa from Lyon to replace him.

Arsenal, who also have an interest in Ben Arfa, have agreed a deal for Nasri believed to be worth 15million euros (£11.9million).

Nasri is expected in the English capital on Wednesday for a medical before signing a four-year deal.

Ben Arfa's move looks closer after Lyon chairman Jean-Michel Aulas confirmed he could leave and admitted he would rather he joined l'OM than a foreign club.

"I am not opposed to a Hatem's transfer to l'OM. My idea is very clear: with the same offers, I will prefer my player to join a French club than a foreign club.

"French Football has to get more and more competitive teams for both Le Championnat and European Cups."

Aulas then admitted Arsenal are one of two Premier League clubs to make contact with him about Ben Arfa.

"But I have not been contacted by OM officials yet," he said.

"There is also interest from two English clubs, notably Arsenal."

While Wenger is a fan of both Nasri and Ben Arfa, the former has always been his preference and it seems he is now close to capturing him.

Nasri's signing is likely to be followed by the arrivals of Chantome and Coquelin.

Chantome was one of the few PSG players to come out of last season with any plaudits after a string of impressive displays in central midfield.

The 22-year-old has been likened to Mathieu Flamini and Wenger is reported to have met with the France Under-21 international in the last week.

Coquelin - who is with third division Laval, has been on trial with Arsenal and although he picked up an injury during training - the 17-year-old seems to have done enough to earn a deal.

It is believed Coquelin is currently in London undergoing a medical ahead of a deal.

Frey (GK) is announced to replace Almunia. One of the best french GKs there is.

To replace Flamini, I'd definetely see Jean II Makoun, he's one of the best defensive midfielders there is in Ligue 1.

Would be very good if we got Frey. He's had an excellent season. Makoun is a monster of a player, but are Lille ready to sell?

Will they have a choice? Lille's not playing any european competitions this year. Plus Arsenal would be a wise choice for him if he wants to improve. Let's wait and see.

According to Nasri's manager, the transfer is not made yet, they're considering the proposition but other teams have made offers... What is sure is that Nasri will be transfered before the Euro.

What a shame that those two are not more loyal to Lille and Fiorentina like Hleb or Flamini...or is that NOT a problem ????
Loyality only counts when people are leaving Arsenal ????
How naïve...

No, there's a big difference. Frey's been in Italy for a couple of years, almost 10 years. Fiorentina's not one of the biggest teams in europe, they hardly win anything.
Same thing for Makoun, talking about loyalty, he's been there for 7 years and never won a thing. Plus in Ligue 1! I'd understand the need to go somewhere else.

The Flamini case was different, he was finally in first squad, everything was set for him. He knew he would be playing CL and aiming for the league title in the best european league. Wenger trusted him, he practicaly made him what he is.

Im quite certain Frey will stay at Fiorentina this year. He rejected all offers from Bayern and Milan because he is part of Prandelli's project. They also qualified for the CL and have a very good squad. They've also just signed Gilardino and soon Barzagli.

When did they sign Gilardino and Barzagli? :SS

They're about to sign Vargas as well I hear. They're looking some team next season!

Sorry for OT

Their transfer director said that the Gilardino deal was practically done, £12m. Barzagli isn't confirmed but there are big rumors that theyre about to complete a £10m deal. Theyre targeting Vargas and Palombo as well. Fucking hell their team is going to be good!!!

Indeed!

Nasri is almost done. Now i want the same for Ben Arfa. But still 1 question remains. Wenger was to sign an experienced player. Who is that going to be?

Nah, ben arfa's too much of a show off, only thinks about himself. I really don't want him to sign. Unless Wenger teaches him how to be respectful, there's no way he'll ever be on the team.

Nasri seems pretty certain. Quality prospect he is, wonder where he'll play? his best position is Kaka/Zidane one yet im guessing he'll play on the flanks replacing Hleb and cutting in.

Frankly, i don't see any difference...Flamini can go to a bigger team, why wouldn't he do that ????

IMO, Milan's not a bigger team, not playing CL this year, hardly finished 4th. It needs a complete reconstruction, the only goal for Flamini to me, is that he wanted to become part of that reconstruction during the years.
But it was the same with Arsenal, Wenger made the team according to him and Fabregas mostly, he could have been a key player just like Vieira back then.
