Arsenal Thread

Oh dear! juve or milan ...why serieA ???

why not? :-pp

the real question is why arsenal are not offering him the contract he asks? i mean, if they have enough money to try to get amauri, they should be able to give flamini what he wants.... :SS

Unless they have a replacement lined up....

Unless they have a replacement lined up....

but if the "replacement" is as good as mathieu, then he will cost quite a lot.... plus they will have to offer him a contract... wich should be pretty close to to what flamini is asking...

so giving mathieu the money he asks should be considered the wisest and most "penny-wise" choice.

Why risk a replacement, when Flamini has such a wonderful partnership with Fabregas going?
that's a good point too.

Can't see why Flamini would want to go either....

sergio leone has always the answer u're looking for :SMOKIN:

Ben has a sense of humor

Still though, Arsenal arn't really short of cash. They can give him the salary he wants.

And what about Hleb? If he's leaving to, Wenger will really need to spend cash on wingers, and a central midfielder.

I agree it would be financially more sensible to offer Flamini a new contract, but if the club have someone like Diarra lined up instead, of course they pay a hell of a lot more money, but they get a much better player and make a substantial improvement too.

Best case scenario would be to buy an improvement AND have Flamini in the squad, but then again Flamini isn't likely to be happy standing around as second choice, especially after the season he has had.

I reckon the club are just waiting a while to explore all avenues open to them.
After all, Flamini will get a big signing on fee and higher wages, so it may prove more economic to look elsewhere, especially with some of Wenger's successes in the transfer market in the past. :)

Diarra as in Mahamadou Diarra? Hard to say if he's a substantial improvement. Offers much less offensively (apart from aerial threat).

i see your point steevio, but, even though i really rate a lot mahamadou, i'm not sure if he's really that better than mathieu.
and besides, flamini already knows arsenal's system and he created a fantastic "chemistry" with cesc.
even if we would consider diarra a much better player than mathieu, we still cannot know if diarra (or anyone else) will adapt himself to premiership football, to arsenal's system and if he will create the same chemistry with fabregas flamini had....

so, unless u really need that money, why breaking the fantastic "liason" between cesc and mathieu? why trying to make adjustements in a position where u're already ok?

however i'm sure there's something we don't know. wenger and arsenal staff proved to be very smart managers in the past. they sold many great players with moves that seemed to be quite risky...but time proved they did the right move.:))

Well of course it's subjective and about opinions so is hard to say for sure.

We never know if a player will prove to be as good as another player in a certain league etc, but we still have to have some form of judgement.
Will Puyol prove to be as good as Upson has been in the Premier League with West Ham? We don't know 'for sure' but I would instantly swap them any day of the week.

In my opinion, Diarra (yes, Mahamadou) is the best defensive midfielder in the world and I think the solidity he would bring the Arsenal midfield will help them be even more creative as they will have more defensive cover to fall back on.
I see Flamini as a workhorse type tenacious player, like maybe Gattuso and Hargreaves, but I see Diarra as a more composed 'beast' of a midfielder.
So dominant and such an imposing figure with good passing and aerial ability.

Of course it's all opinions, but I would if Arsenal lost Flamini and brought in Diarra with a large chunk of that 'Flamini budget', it would be a significant improvement to the team and would give them that bit extra which I think they have been without and has seen them fall away this season.

We cannot know 'for sure' (what can we say 'for sure'?!). But if you have a strong view on a player, then you can say things with some assuredness. :)

amin, steevio_uk, u're spot on abt Diarra and the defensive midfielder position. arsenal would do with some more strengh, it is one of the things they lacked this season.
i hope wenger isn't thinking (in general) that the youngsters (like Denislon or Bendtner) will cut it next season, cuz sure arsenal is playing wonderful with them, but some key-players are still neededl...even for the youngsters, they can grow playing alongside good more-experienced players. (e.g. the period spent by Beckham training with arsenal).

NO Offense but usually players going to serieA is usually for weather and girlfriend opinions... win 1st a trophy before buggering off for new pastures

Oh come on bebo that's not a legit reason! Think about the positives. Italy will be more similar to France, Milan are the current World Champions and have a great world record, apart from this season, Milan is a major European city and the Serie A is more competitive than the EPL in terms of overall quality (By this I mean the gap between smaller teams is much smaller than it is in England) and his pay will be higher. He might simply want a new challenge. The same could be said that when players go to England its because of the perceived 'easiness' of the prem or simply ££££££.

OK! Milanista I just dont like the fact he`s leaving us ... and Milan our a top club (it does my head in w/ players leaving us especially in the last 3 seasons)

u see mate, that's the point. football players don't move to another city, team, or league for wheater (if the weather would be a factor, then my beloved palermo would be a stronger team than chelsea, arsenal and milan put together ) and definitely not for their girlfriends "suggestions" (wich is the most frequent "excuse").
they don't move to teach their sons a new language (and my friend milanista here knows what i'm talking about.... cough-sheva-cough;)))

and they don't even move for the quality of the leagues (as long as they play in a top league, like serie a, premiership, liga etc...).

the only reason why the 99,9 of football players move to another team is money. ;))

nothing else mate... it's all about money. :))

You are SOOO Pro-Italy it's not even funny.

1. London is ALSO a major city in Europe.

2. You'll find that the Premier League is the most watched and most famous league in the world now.

3. AC Milan might be "World Champions" on paper but lets be honest, they're a bit crap now.

4. Arsenal have a fantastic new stadium, one of the best managers in WORLD football and play a style of football that can only be admired.

5. Flamini is LOVED at Arsenal. The pairing of him and Fabregas will only get better too.

Firstly Mike, I wasn't saying they are reasons to LEAVE the Prem, and I didnt imply that Italy is BETTER for those reasons. They are just potential reasons for Flamini to why he is linked to us. Of course London is a major city, but so is Milan, but not as major. Most watched and most famous? So what? Players might be attracted to cultural things and money. Milan are the ageing team, another reason to why he'd want to join - he'd be part of our future plan in rebuilding with Kaka and Pato. We also have a major stadium in the world, often considered a collosseum in football - again I'm not saying Emirates is worse.

I didnt decide to create this rumor, it exists, so clearly he has his reasons. I think you misunderstood my post.

The rumors are that hes already turned down Juventus. Juventus sporting director was asked if Flamini is a potential target and he said "No". Apparently we're offering him 4m euros a year where as Juve are offering 3m a year.

I think he'll stay, Just my gut feeling its similar to Brown with us its just speculation. Give it 2 or 3 weeks and they'll announce that he's agreed to sign

I dont think he'll stay, coz if he wanted to he would have signed the new contract months ago. If he wants to go to Milan, let him go, we cant hold him n keep him. I'm sure Wenger will find someone better than him then. and Maybe some people do like to play with Oldies instead of Youngsters!

We are gonna win the league - YEE HAA!!!!

Man U and chelsea will lose their two games and we will win ours - Double YEE HAA!!!

;))

That made me chuckle like a little kid

I heard Arsenal offered a contract to Flamini but he turned it down.
Also that he's not really a very nice person.
