Arsenal Thread

Nothing to do with sour grapes. Anyone with eyes to see who doesn't get sucked into the media hypejob frenzy will tell you it was a good goal, nothing more. Its only because it was scored by Henry that people glamourise it and give it special treatment. Had it been scored by some no name player from a lower league team, it wouldnt even have been analysed or praised after the game on MOTD or in the papers.

fair enough watching the highlight show doesn`t show the build up just the passing and the shot.

tbh henry hasn`t scored a shot in that caliber in a looong while it`s refreshing to see and I don`t expect you to understand it`s in your nature to take a piss on things

Looking forward to the game on sunday, I'm hoping arsenal dont employ a 5 man midfield as they did @ OT.

Worringly Henry is looking sharp, his goal against Blackburn was wicked, I'm not a big fan of Henry but that goal was superb, he tends to go missing when you's play us but I'm sure he'll be well up for it on sunday.

It's shame that you's have only just got into good form, I'd like to see all three teams go at it for the title.

Seriously, I know the Guardian loves the Arsenal, but that was some seriously optimistic stuff. Fine, the last few weeks have been good to Arsenal, but they're not exactly tearing the league up. I'll miss the days where 80 point seasons were good enough, but I fear with the intro of Chelski and (apparently) United stepping up to the challenge, an Arsenal team will not be able to maintain the consistency to be the best team in England (barring disaster at those two). The unbeaten season was amazing to be sure, but still well off the Chav's point total last year, and potentially whoever wins this year will eclipse even that!

The problem with the way Arsene plays is that its very hit or miss. One week it'll be a 1-0 loss, the next a 6-0 win. I love it, wish Mourinho-esque tactics never came into the league, but they have, and the past two years hte team that either wins 1-0 or 2-0 is the one that wins the title.

Personally, I think Arsenal have become more capable of winning games compared to the undefeated season. But they've also lost the ability to avoid defeat. Every team needs that right balance and Arsenal dont have it at the moment. Their defending isnt convincing. Sure they could pull off a fine defensive display here and there, and you'll hear some of the players singled out for praise but players like Terry, Rio, Vidic, etc dont get praised cuz they're consistantly putting in performances that are expected of them anyway. If you ask me, Arsenal are having to dig far deeper to defend compared to other teams and this wasnt the case during the days of Vieira, Campbell, Keown, etc.

I might be proven wrong but I think this is why Arsenal isnt gonna reach the potential that its showing.

interesting read, and reading the comments, it's Arsenal fan going on about Chelsea crises, Chelsea fan going on about Arsenal crises, and all the while United fans are safe in the knowledge that all their team is happy, and we're sitting pretty at the top of the league

Arsenal fans, unbiased predictions for Sunday please?

can I be fairly optimistic and ask for a Arsenal 2 - 0 ManU... with either Henry scoring both or VP nailing both?

ok... so very optimistic... but can't blaim a guy for trying =o

I really beleive we can win this one so I am going to go for 1-1 ;)

3-1 to the Arsenal. We will go 2-0 up quite early on. Then Man U will get a goal back just after half time and make a game of it. Then we will score our third with ten minutes to go.

Fabregas will score 2 of our goals.

Mark my words and then worship me when I get it spot on!!

Sunday's game is interesting. Its the team with the best away record against the team who have scored the 2nd most goals at home and are unbeaten at home, something has got to give.

Some United fans are acting as if they have already won the game but it will come down to who performs on the day. We know we can beat them so we could well surprise them.

I think Arsenal will piss all over Manchester United 5-0 and then throw huge pizzas and cauldrons of soup all over the manc bastards on their way into the dressing room, which they'll have locked, so they'll all be assembled in one group outside the dressing room door to get another hiding from the arsenal security guards, after that they'll all be on a heap on the ground and Wenger will pull up driving one of those water machines they use for riot control, he'll use that to powerhose the entire United squad then get them escorted out onto the team bus and sent packing back to manchester for some rest and recuperation.

...seriously?

Portsmouth may aswell rename themselves Arsenal Reserves. Thats Kanu, Cambpell and now Lauren. Who's next, ljungberg?!

Some stats from the BBC site:

ARSENAL and Manchester United square up to each other for the 200th time in a competitive contest, in what's been billed many times as a "Battle of the Titans" and a title decider, but not this year. While the Red Devils are going all out for their first Premiership crown in four seasons, the Gunners are lagging some 15 points behind and battling to gain one of the two Champions League qualifying spots. They're yet to lose at the Emirates Stadium, and are vying for a 50th home League victory over their old adversaries.

Victory would give Arsenal exactly 800 Premiership points under Arsene Wenger. The Frenchman takes on Sir Alex Ferguson's charges for the 33rd time. Of the 32 previous encounters United have won 11, Arsenal 12 and nine draws. Of those nine draws, United won the 2003 Community Shield on penalties, and Arsenal the 2005 FA Cup final on penalties.

The Gunners ended their longest winless streak of eight matches against a single opponent under Wenger, when they won 1-0 at Old Trafford in September. But the Londoners have not beaten the Red Devils on home turf since a 3-1 triumph on 25 November 2001, when Thierry Henry got a brace and Fredrik Ljungberg the other. Wenger's side are vying for a third Premiership 'double' over United, and first since 2001-02.

The flip side is that Mike Riley is the ref, so we are fucked! ;)

Adios Ralph...

A keystone of the undefeated back four. At one stage, arguably the best right fullback in the Prem, and one of the hardest bastards to play for the mighty Goons. We'll always remember that cheeky daisy cutter pen against the Spuds, the one that rolled in at about 3mph to give us the 2-1 victory in the 01-02 season.

Then there was this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bj4lZFF2WHc

Any player who makes habit of scoring aganist the lily white scum holds a special place in our hearts.

Check out that 1000 yard stare! I'm pretty gutted to see him go to be honest. Now he'll be munching on Rosicky's ankles next time we go to Fratton Park. All the best Raplhy, it's been emotional. :applause:

Lauren is a standard Arsenal prancing fairy, but always willing to try and injure a player as long as he’s comfortable he won’t get sent off, abit like Vieira. I dislike him, seems to always have a chip on his shoulder when he plays. Similar in temperment to Martin Keown.

Ralph will always be a hero of mine, mainly for this:

He was a class act, probably has the thickest neck in football.

Cheers Ralph for all the goals against the scum!

LOL, what an idiot Neville was for getting involved that day! Keown said Ralph was the hardest player he ever played with or against. Still he was a Cameroon junior boxing champion.

I do feel sad he's gone though, he was a great player and was completely underestimated by most other fans.

Farewell Ralph and I hope to see you last game of the season!

that would be the problem, we were all like that at OT, then you completely outplayed us. I'd probably expect a draw tbh, which wouldn't be ideal but then at least we both get a point each
