Arsenal Thread

just been reading the fan views on skysports.com (yes, i am bored) and came across a few worth reading maybe.

Ljungberg will not leave Arsenal at all, however one player coming in will be GianLuigi Buffon who has been told by Juve that he is payment for the Vieira deal of which the 13.7 euros is still owed. This will then make way for Sevilla to take Jens Lehmann who doesnt agree with Wenger's one year deals for over 30 players.
James Dawson - Beckenham

I know someone who writes for an Italien newspaper, and it is reported that Arsenal will sign Juve keeper Buffon on a 3 year contract as Jens Lehmann wants to finsh his career off in Germany.
Luke Coppock - Bedfordshire

I have it on good authority that Real Madrid have promised Antonio Cassano and Michel Salgado to Arsenal if the Gunners allow them a free run at trying to sign Franck Ribery.
Wayne Meade - Romford

Arsenal will be busy this month with Buffon arriving from Juventus as part of the delayed payment for Viera. Ljunberg and Lauren to West Ham are done deals totalling 9 million with which Arsene Wenger will use along with the rest of the kitty he was given to purchase Kompany and Van der Vaart from Hamburg totalling 18.2 million. Ribery was due to be joining in the summer however this has been brought forward as Arsenal fear late attraction from AC Milan and the need to replace Ljunberg.
Michael Hassan - london

I have it on good authority from inside Ashburton Grove that Hearts keeper Craig Gordon moving to Arsenal is a done deal within the next couple of days.
Rob Day - Epping

In reply to Mark from Romford, Essex, the player deal between West Ham & Arsenal is Ljunberg & Hoyte for Reo-Coker, I have this on very good authourity from inside Arsenal and a certain coach named Steve Bould. Wenger has become tired of Ljunberg's long list of injuries and inactivity and has Hleb & Rosicky and is a big admirer of Reo-Coker.
darren thearle - new jersey

My good friend back in France knows someone at Marseille, apparantly Ribery is a done deal with Arsenal but they want Theo Walcott till the end of the season as a replacement. Go on Theo!
Yannick Trouillez - Ipswich, Suffolk

Rumours in Italy tipping Real Mardrid regect Antonio Cassano to be involved in a swoop transfer by Arsenal in exchange for fellow Italian youngster Arturo Lupi + £5 million.
Davide Trogu - Cagliari

I have just come from Upton Park ticket office where when waiting in line few a lads starting talking about the Ljungberg deal, not thinking it would happen. Then a man wearing West Ham ID told us that Freddie and another Arsenal player went into the stadium about an hour earlier, he thinks it was lauren.
Mark Craig - romford, essex

k that more than few, but hey, rumours are fun.

Some interesting stuff there. Could see the Buffon thing happening as they probably want that debt settled.

Not sure about Theo to Marseille and never believe a West Ham fan, they're a bunch of cunts that talk nothing but shit!

Buffon would be great! Can I see it happening though? Probably not. I don't know but Wenger just doesn't spend big on keepers. If Juve want to give us players to settle debts then I think Camoranesi or Trezagoal would be more likely.

Still if Buffon signs I am happy to be proved wrong! ;)

trez would be nice, but i dont think id ever appreciate camoranesi after his attitude against us last season.

slightly worried for todays match, it would be somewhat typical for us to give a poor performance following a decent string of results. hopefully im wrong.

If Arsenal got Trez and Buffon in would definitely move them up a level, give them a bit more experience in a young team. They would be great signings. I would not go for Camoranesi though, the guys attitude is debatable.

can somebody check to see wether savage is related to matterazi?

dirty fuckin cunt, fouled giberto, then when gilb has the tiniest of kicks on him and (i do mean tiny like a 2 year old kicking a sponge ball) savage goes down like it was a bullet to the head. absolute disgrace. although im in no way justifying a kick out, if the red card was necessary, it was necessary for both involed, robbie was even dirtier and to go along with it he milked the situation. an absolute disgrace to the game.

on a happier note, KOLO TOURE!!!!!!

0-1

brilliant performance for 75 mins from a 10 man arsenal squad. henry was ineffectual in large rifts during the game but when he was in effect, he was lethal and vital to the 2 goals. senderos played a great game in my opinion. good on the ball, made some crucial tackles and all around had a good game. fabregas was vital, as usual. hleb played quite well too, in my opinion.

my only concern is that adebayor saw action over baptista. if anybody deserves ATLEAST a 3 game run in the squad to show what hes about, its baptista. i hope to see this corrected in the next game.

come on the arsenal!

mate im still not convinced. i am still upset with arsenal being soo far behind manu.ok we win this game but what about the next game? where not concistant. we need to win like 10 games in a row to be concidered one of the best in the league.

we have manu next week, i see a draw in that one TBH but preying for a win. IT could be our first defeat at home as well so take note has i believe that we will lose at least once this season at home

I think this is a good sign, beating Blackburn away after being a man down after the 12th minute. Especially on the form they were in coming into the match - Very good!!

The only thing that is worrying me is Gilberto being out against Man U. If we have our full team then there is no reason to think Man U will beat us at Home. But without Gilberto and Gallas, there is a slight doubt, but I still think we will beat Man U.

This Result makes me very optimistic!! this is the sort of game we were struggling to win earlier in the season. We have the confidence and have alot of our players coming back into the squad.

I nearly pissed on myself watching Henry scored...What a cracker!!

Harsh on Gilberto he got hit and pushed bad calling for both sides tbh

Man you gotta get things into perspective. We have an exciting young team here where the sky is the limit. We are not having a great season granted, but I will take that because over the next 3/4 seasons I really feel we can do something amazing. We are seeing glimpses now of what this team can do and its so exciting. Just enjoy this team they are only going to get better and better.

The arsenal players are still very young, consistency will come with maturity as they develop the mental strength. The experienced players will be important in shwoing the younger players how to conduct themselves at the club. My previous theory was that Arsenal didnt have enough experienced players at the spine of the team to guide and take the pressure off the younger players. However I have to retract that statement due to Gilberto's impressiveness this term as a leader in midfield. I was never a fan of him when he played alongside Viera as I felt he just drifted through games. Now he's far more influential and versatile than he used to be. Since Vieira's gone he's changed how he plays and what he does now is more apparent to the casual viewer. It took him along time to settle but now arsenal are reaping the benefits for sticking with him. Now Henry is fully fit and not whining anymore, keeping his head down, his presence and influence over the other young strikers will be key. Gallas is also a leader and has medals to his name. Even Toure can be considered established. So I think the consistency will come, you can see the spirit is building up in the Arsenal camp and the players are starting to fight for eachother when the chips are down. Still I think when you lose, you need to lose gracefully and shake the oppositions hand, which culprits such as Fabragas need to grasp. Btw I'm referring to the watch against Sheffield United. It doesn't help when your manager also acts childish, as it will just rub off on the players.

United have gone 3 seasons without consistency because of the time it takes to cultivate a winning mentality into young players. Your fans should be gratful that even at difficult periods, Arsenal are still playing very good attacking fluid football. It was worst for United fans last season because not only was the team inconsistent, but we were flirted with and tried to adapt to negative tactics which Ferguson wanted as his new system, in a 4-5-1/4-3-3 formation in order to play similar effective football as chelsea. Fortunatley Ferguson listened to the fans who were having none of it and rightly so. Credit to Fergie, as he now has reverted back to 4-4-2 were we now are reaping the benefits.

I don`t think Henry is fully fit in the last 2 matches he`s on hand to knee grasping for 02.As I feel soon he will be more threating in 1 to 2 weeks time . Yes! I`m aware he was all over the pitch at the back no need to drill me...

I`m more concern if the Beast going to perform soon because time on the bench can be a set back look at vpersie...o.k. not a fair assumption.

I to Al did not warm up to Gilberto but sometimes you can`t shine when there`s a shadow next to you we can say well adapted

Welcome back Al

Oh Alucard's back, with some very good points. In agreement with the majority of what you are saying on this occasion.

bebo, whenever I see your avatar it makes me smile. Henry is such a cheeky chappy. :mryellow:

Well all eyes now turn to Sundays big game at the Emirates:

Arsenal v Man Utd

I'll be honest and say this is league game I most look forward to in the schedule. Some of the games we have had over the last 10\15 years have been great (for both sides). Its special when Utd play Arsenal.

Here's a few of the recent encounters that I remember for good and bad reasons:

Nov 97 Arsenal 3 Man Utd 2

A late Platt header gave us the win after 2 Sheringham goals had pissed us off.

Sept 99 Arsenal 1 Man Utd 2

Roy Keane stole the show with 2 goals. This is first game I remember Keane and Vieira having a go at each other and it seemed to happen every match after this!

Oct 2000 Arsenal 1 Man Utd 0

Henry won the game with a wonder goal. He had his back to goal, flipped it up and put it over Barthez into the top corner. Genius.

Nov 2001 Arsenal 3 Man Utd 1

"Give it to Barthez" was the cry as poor Fabian gifted 2 late goals to Henry in the Highbury rain to give Arsenal the win after being 1-0 down.

Jan 2005 Arsenal 2 Man Utd 4

Utd took the piss here and it could have been more. I remember this one for Ronaldo scoring 2 and Alumnia giving one of the worst goalkeeping displays I have seen.

Let the banter begin!

ManUtd are on a top form and Arsenal is in high confident mode it will be a tight match the question (?) is what system will AW use 4-5-1

I think you guys will indeed use a 4-5-1 - that worked really well against United earlier in the season. Though, inexplicably we did not show up that day, and seemed happy to let your little passing triangles to tear up the midfield. It'll be interesting to see how our 2 central midfielders handle your presumed 3, hoping we'll use width whenever possible on your nice new pitch :)

And Henry's goal was gorgeous, he didn't even have to look up. Sublime indeed. (and quite similar to Rooney's effort against Villa that smacked the crossbar).

Anyone know the ref? Our ties have calmed down without keano and Vieira, hopefully its not Graham (look at me, look at me) Poll, because he's probably still keen to get headlines by sending off Ronaldo and Fabregas for speaking to each other about last night's Prison Break which he misconstrued as cursing him off. Or something.

I think it will be 4-4-2 for us as we are playing so well with it at the moment.

Here is how I see us lining up.

Jens

Eboue\Hoyte Senderos Toure Clichy

Hleb Flamini Fabregas Rosicky

Henry Van Persie

i agree... i think it'll probably be a 4-4-2 also after the showing last week against blackburn, granted ManU aren't a weak blackburn side, the three in midfield should feel pretty confident... add in a 4th like Flamini and it can be interesting... but i'd like to see Baptista over Flamini in there though and see if we can get an early heartbreaker over ManU... i also like seeing Toure on the left... but i dunno if even that will help against Ronaldo torching everything up on that side...

.

It was a good goal but I wouldnt rate it in the same class as a lot of other goals scored recently. MOTD went to great lengths to give it such a great build up as we was to see one of the greatest goals of all time. I sat there waiting to be enthralled, but all I witnessed was a goal scored on the counter attack ending with Henry scoring from outside the box. It was almost a replica of the goal Anelka scored against Arsenal a few months back. I didn't see any great feats which made it contender for goal of the season, the passing up to the goal wasn't anything special, Henry's shot was good but nothing we haven't seen every month this season.

I'd rate Benayoun's goal for West ham higher. The lob was a far more difficult skill to execute considering the angle he was facing, yet it hardly even got mentioned let alone hyped up to the extraordinary lengths of Henry's goal
