I have said all season that Wenger should play Edu instead of Gilberto - he is class, and proved it tonight. Well done, boys.

Today was the tail of the two Edu's and our one came on top, fantastic second goal by him on his weaker right foot and another comanding performance. Kanu made an impact when he came on and is still the sharp Kanu that left for the ANC. Result was great and sets ourselves quite nicely for the return leg at Highbury, where I'll be taking my seat in the North Bank! Cmon!

whats with the anti-gilberto vibe im feeling??? :)

Im not sure myself who should start out of the two but its nice to have the option of both, I certainly dont see any of them leaving the club either.

The one problem with Edus game ive noticed is on occasion he gives the ball away too blatently trying to play a pass, its like sometimes so obvious he wont make the pass but he does it and it gets intercepted, he did it once or twice i think today, other than that hes had a excellent few weeks.

And on the flip with Gilberto is his inability to shoot!!!

I was also annoyed a little with Henrys game today, thiers times when you think hes just gonna hit the ball ahead and just take on a defender for pace but then he turns back, I suppose its the fact he makes it look easier than it is, did anyone else notice those moments when Henrys appears to loose his cool and charges a defender down??? I think he did it twice today, got booked for one and fouled the geezer the other time.

Freddy wasnt in it today, felt sorry for him not fully match fit me thinks, also does anyone else agree hes probably the most fouled player we have, I see him in nearly every match he get his ankles/shins beaten the shit out of, hes always being tripped.

I also still think kanu is a great european stage football player, he holds the ball well and his little flicks and shit add a little spice to the game.

I just heard someone say on Sky sports phone in our right backs a little poor, personnaly i like lauren just sometimes he gets in great forward positions but his cross's are so poor, he needs some pratice on delivering that final ball other than that the teams fine.

Its not a vibe mate, its a fact.

I have been saying for ages now that Edu is a better player than Gilberto. He does everything Gilberto does but better. Edu's last few performances have highlighted this but to be fair he has never let us down and has been playing like this all season. Its just now he has scored a couple of goals and come to peoples attention. If you ask a selection of Gooners that go to the matches who they prefer then I bet that 95% would say Edu.

There's about a 75,000 person waiting list mate, Good Luck. ;)

Actually it's 34,000 for a season ticket and 27,000 for the registration scheme. Also resdents of Islington get choosen first.

Hello chaps, I am back after while and you boys are doing the Arsenal thread proud.

Reading the last couple of pages about Ashburton with interest, if you are saying that there are 34,000 waiting for season tickets and 27,000 on registration scheme then this is unbelievable. Lets look at the facts.

There are currently approx 22,000 season ticket holders
I am guessing that there are 8,000 TRS members.
The rest are away fans, corporate and bond holders.

Therefore at Ashburton there will be approx:

4,000 allocated for away fans
The middle tier is apparently "corporate fans" is equals 7,000

This leaves 49,000 for the rest. How this would be split I don't know but I could guess....

15,000 TRS
34,000 Season Tickets

Obviously this is just a guess. I am trying to make the point that if there are 34,000 people on the waiting list for season tickets, then less than half of these will be able to claim a season ticket when the new ground opens as there will only be an extra 12,000-15,000 season tickets available approximately.

Although currently a season ticket holder myself, I find this extremely sad, so many of you wanna get in to the ground and the new ground ain't gonna change this cos it won't fit you all in. :(

7000 for corporates tho, thats where all the cash is gona come from!

I know, it's a shamethere are people that can go to the games without even giving a shit who is playing but when the cheapest hospitality package starts from £250 the club would be stupid not to exploit it..

Where you been Butatista?

Didnt really see much of the game last nite I was watching the Bayern Madrid game.

Edu's second goal was pure class, and on his weaker foot aswell...

Well you's are on ya way to matching your best ever European campaign, and this year I reckon its anyones so you could clean up and match our Treble season....

Now if that doesn't cement Edu's place in the team in front of Gilberto I don't know what does. A caller on Your On Sky Sports got it spot on tonight, he said that Gilberto is one of those players who doesn't want the ball and get's rid of it as soon as it's passed to him, where as with Edu, when he's got the ball you feel secure and Kenny Sansom said how safe he feels when Edu is in possession of the ball, and with Gilberto you don't get that. Come on Arsene, I know your a genius but this seems like a no brainer to me. ;)

Have you seen the defensive frailties of Arsenal last night? For the best defensive combination, Arsene needs Gilberto to play alongside Viera. He's a flair player and that, but flair ain't gonna win an inexperienced (in Europe that is) Arsenal side the Champs league

I agree that Gilberto has a slight upper hand defensively and is slightly better in the air aswell, but Edu is more than capable of doing that. I think part of the reason we conceded those 2 goals from set pieces was cos it was in the Champions League, and sometimes we are abit nervous in these games, I can't remember the last time we conceded a goal from a set piece, but I think you'll see on Saturday that we're just as solid defensively with Edu in place of Gilberto (if he starts).

Don your not that person who was calling Vieira a crap defensive midfielder afew months back are you? Cos if you are, in the words of Ali G "Diggidy check yourself before you reck yourself". ;)

It's been a long time since we've let in 2 goals, carling cup excluded it was against Kiev in Oct and only Newcastle have managed it in the league, as for their goals one was a good header even if he was unmarked and the other was a little fortunate but again poor marking. All that metters is that we have got 3 goals and they're gonna have to score 2 more than us or at least 3.

I'd just like to bring something to everyones attention, who was it who broke into the team 2 years ago on our way to the double with about 15 games to go in the season, and started 13 of the games? Answers on a postcard please. ;)

Gilberto is a decent player but he's in his second full season for us and maybe we are yet to see the best out of him. Edu has been at the club for 3 years and it's now that he's really looking like a world class player who originally was a replacement for Petit when he left. Edu gives that great left sided balance to the team and has a great passing range and more importantly can score goals. His goal yesterday reminded me of how Petit used to curl shots in and with Edu it looks like we've got a good all around attacking midfielder that we need in big games. But we have games that need a little bit more protection to our back four, we do need a Gilberto and Vieira to sure up the midfield. But with Arsenal's attacking style of play Edu is a must for our first team at present and Gilberto should be the "Nicky Butt" of Arsenal.

But the down side to that is Edu becoming an international player and 2 of our midfielders travelling half way around the world for every international break.

I think he would be very useful as a Nicky Butt kind of player, good description.

I disagree, Butts best attribute is his Manc-ness (lol) Gilberto will have alot more to his overall game than Butt, like ball control, little touches etc, I see it in Kleberson and I'd say he was a season or two behind Gilberto.

I still cant believe how much Edu has come on, I've been raving I really thought he'd be a turkey for you's it just shows that cant pass judgment on players till they've had a good few seasons over here.....

Henry and Bergkamp were good adverts for that

what a result for the gooners, i was jchuffed that an english team got a good away result! btw becuase the toon didn't qualify rhis year i am not sure on what happens in thesecond round? i thought it was still a mini league with 4 teams???? or has it been changed.

It's a knockout format now. More suited to Arsenal. Well, any change in the second round would be better considering our form in Europe.

Heh, if you misread the scores list, you could be led to believing Edu scored a hat-trick. ;)

ah ha, for a minute last night i thought it was the quarter-final. :D hopefully it will be suited to the toon as well (when they're in it next year  ). but i think arsenal can get to the semi's
