Don't know if this was mentioned before, but three of Arsenal's youngsters have been shortlisted for the Carling Cup New Talent award. The three Arsenal boys are Clichy, Stack and the current leader by some way, Aliadiere. The remaining two are Chris Eagles of United and Peter Whittingham.

Vote at www.carlingcup.com

Yeah I voted, I think Aliadiere is the best of all players not just the young ones.

Hi Guys!

Dissapointing result tonight, but you cannot fault the players effort. Nevermind im sure when the big boys get unleashed in the second leg we'll smash Boro.

Hopefully Vieira and maybe Pires, Ljungberg and Cole will play, Vieira is most likely to play because he's suspended for the Man City game.

Wenger said hes not going to change the team apart maybe from Viera who like ya said wont play against City.Hopfully though Pires Thierry and Co will have some part to play maybe coming off the bench for the second half or something if its not going are way.Anyway does anyone know anything about the dutch kid we're supposed to be buying from Feyenoord?

Van der Persie. He's a potential starlet, and one of the current crop of Dutch youngsters who have been sensational in the Eredivisie, including the likes of VDV, Robben, Sneijder etc. He's probably fourth behind those three. I've seen him play many times and he is impressive although gives the impression he's a star already, which he isn't. It would be nice to see him at Highbury but maybe just not now, and considering Feyenoord decided to make the rejected bid public, we might not.

I think last night proved that Arsenal need to buy a few players - the first 11 is more than capable of beating just about anyone, but like we`ve all said before, take away Henry, or Vieira, or Pires and its a different team. Wenger needs to sign something! (Doesn`t bother me, Arsenal`s lack of depth in the squad suits us United heads) :D

On the Football365 mailbox people talk about him and they say that he has bundles of natural talent, unfortunately he is his biggest fan.

He might not like sitting on the bench most games then if did come to Highbury which he probably would

I think thats why Gullit is asking him to stay a couple more seasons in Holland

Sounds like another Anelka in the making... i'm a bit worried...

The Lowdown On Van Persie
I've seen the kid play here in Holland. Definitely a good young talent, and well worth 4-5 million. Having said that, in my opinion he is a very similar player to Pennant (both on and off the pitch!). If Pennant doesn't fit in, what makes us think this guy will?

In any case, if the reports are true and Feyenoord have really said: "We have rejected a first bid and we are waiting for Arsenal to come back to us. We are waiting for written confirmation of a second bid from them," then I wouldn't hold my breath on this one.

The last time Feyenoord tried to play the transfer game with Arsenal they lost out. Arsenal bid six million pounds for Dudek, but Feyenoord turned them down, saying they wanted £8.6million. Eventually, Feyenoord sold him to Liverpool for just £4.85m. Are Feyenoord really dumb enough to not take Arsenal's first offer?
Oliver Chaddock

...Living here in the Netherlands and being an avid Gooner, I have had a number of Dutch colleagues come up to me about van Persie - in their words he is the only player left in the Feyenoord team who can juggle the ball more than three times (maybe they say this as they are Ajax fans).

He has a very poor discipline record and has been suspended by his own club a number of times for activities not to do with football. However by all accounts he is a very good prospect and should fit into the AFC team.
Julian Oldale

...Van Persie, in his third season at Feyenoord, is a gifted midfield player. Unfortunately he is of the opinion that he is an extremely gifted player. This has resulted in continuous arguments with Bert van Marwijk, the Feyenoord manager.

He is known as the Enfant Terrible of Rotterdam. Rob Baan, fired as Feyenoord coach in December, characterised van Persie as greedy and threatened him with a seat in the stands if he didn't lower his demands.

He wants to play in the hole behind the strikers, but van Marwijk prefers Tomas Buffel there and has moved van Persie out to the left wing. While extremely popular with the Feyenoord hardcore, it has been a question of when not if he would leave the club.
Noel Digan

...Van Persie has been Feyenoord's best player this year. He plays almost like Teddy Sheringham, but has more pace - he does seem to have an attitude problem though.
Sam Cassie

...But of course I've seen Robin van Persie play, he usually plays on the left wing at Feyenoord but prefers to play behind the strikers and says that he
could score 20+ goals in one season on that position.

He is also a good player from deadball situations, he has a marvellous free-kick. he is two-footed but prefers his left leg - in top form he can play better then the other Dutch talents Arjen Robben and Raphael van der Vaart but he is still too inconsistent. He has the full potential to become a world-class player but needs a firm hand to achieve that goal.
Tom Luik, The Netherlands

I like the fact that he's an unproven potential star. Wenger has a habit of handing those few stepping stones to go much further. He did it with Henry, Pires, Ljunberg etc. and could do it with Persie. Likes to play behind the strikers...could be the next Dennis. ;)

Changing tracks, Arsenal against Boro last night, did anyone notice how well Edu played? He really impresses me (even though he's Brazilian and I'm Argentinian!) and I rate him over Silva. Disappointing goal overall though but few experienced players were on the pitch and losing 1-0 isn't that bad. Juninho was playing well.

I go to a lot of games mate, and Edu is a much better partner for Vieira than Gilberto. I think most Gooners who go to the games would agree with that. He does everything Gilberto does and more, but does it all alot better. He can pass, tackle(!), shoot. Also has excellent positional sense.

Gilberto is a good player but Edu is better IMO. He plays for the shirt and looks like he would die for it. Gilberto is often carried along by the rest of the team.

I think Wenger would be the man to put him on the straight and narrow and with people like Dennis Bergkamp at the club to look up to(If hes still around that is) I think Arsenal would be a good envirovent for him like I said before it would depend how he handled not playing week in week out.

Yeah I think a Viera/Edu partnership would be better then a Viera/Giberto one although I would still go for Ray Parlour in the middle with Viera for that extra bite

Gilberto is more of a continental 'ball winning' midfielder. He doesnt really put his foot in like say a Viera or Keene does but nips the ball of the opposition

Yep Edu played a blinder last night, tracking back, getting stuck in, spreading the play out, showed real maturity and gets my nod over gilberto definitely. Quincy and Bentley showed flashes of their potential but once they gain more experience and strength they are really ones to look for in the near future. Cygan commanded the back line once again, recovered well after a slip at the back. Toure is a star already as we all know and my mate Graham Stack from my St. Marks school days had a good steady game. Had some good battles against him on our lunch breaks on the playground. Being a year above him our year always hammered their year below! Scored a few past him I remember! Had real potential as an outfield player, but saw him in one PE lesson he charged out from goal and absolutely clattered this guy when through on goal ;)

I'm just watching the 1990/91 championship video. Butatista I was wrong as you pointed out. We played some great footy and Limpar plays so much like Freddie.

Cool, it was a great season. Limpar was my favourite player at the time, it was his first season and didn't really hit the heights again after that. He scored a class hattrick against Coventry in the last game of the season.

The next season, Limpar scored from just inside the Liverpool half, lobbing the goalie beautifully. He was a great talent but didn't quite reach his potential.

Apparently (according to the Daily Mail) Wenger has put in a £20million follow up bid for Reyes of Seville. Not sure. :l

Regarding the fact that we've been linked with Jose Reyes of Seville and I don't know if anyone saw a repeat from 2 years ago of They Think It's All Over last night on UKG2 but on the explain the goal celebration round they had Jose Reyes scoring a great goal with a run from inside his own half then laying on the ground in celebration only to have one of his team mates biting his cock!

You're right. Stupid mistake. Err...well done on your post.

Some more utter crap rumours flying around about Arsenal having accepted a bid from Madrid for Henry. All false of course, but funny to read nonetheless. Just reminds me of how gullible SoccerAge still is to post it. Anything for hits, I suppose.

The Frey rumour has been knocked out off bed. All those claims of him talking to Wenger on the phone are all false, according to Wenger. I'm glad.

Pires and Ljungberg might play upfront on saturday against boro cos Henry might be rested

Sorry didn't want to sound like a nitpick.
