Who really does care about the "mickey mouse" Carling Cup anyway? Apart from the smaller clubs.

Sour grapes?

Not at all mate. I don`t even watch the Carling Cup games, as you know, most seasons United slope out of the competition early, we NEVER play any first team players, Fergie does not want the fixtures messing with "proper" tournaments like the Premiership and the Champions League. It was not a dig at Arsenal, I just think it is a better competition for the smaller clubs to win. I mean, be honest, who really gave a shite when Liverpool won the trophy last season? I know they beat us, deserved it too, but its just not a big enough prize in English football anymore - just like the Charity Shield, who cares?

You did beat us, fair and square. But the last 3 wins over the Scouse monkeys in the Premiership (9 points) has been very satisfying. :)

You've just got to laugh.

Listen I think the Carling cup is good, especially as it gives alot of younger players a chance, which they wouldn't normally get.

Just accept it, you aint got any decent kids coming through. :D

All together now...

Sour grapes sour grapes sour grapes!
Sour grapes sour grapes sour grapes!
Sour grapes sour grapes sour grapes!
Sour grapes sour grapes sour grapes!

Could have been the only cup you could have won this season. Shame. LOL. As for the mickey mosue thing, it can get you into Europe cant it? Exactly hence its a "proper" tournament plus its got a trophie! I mean a trophie! How exciting!

Lol bless the poor man utd fan. Oh and just to abuse my mod power any more backchat from you in here about man yoo will be deleted for going off-topic :D

Onto the Arsenal Boro Semis...
So we meet again eh guys? 2-legs this time (thankgod). Well i think we stand a chance, but it will depend on your team really. We're a better team than when you beat us 4-0. But i dont know if our defence an cope with Henry. Altho it will be in January so we may have a new striker to go with Ricketts who seems too be getting better (did i really just say that?)
We'll have to see how it goes anyhow but it could be a good game.
Any idea what the dates are for the 1st and 2nd legs?

The thing is im dissapointed, because I was looking forward to seeing our young team rip Spurs's full team apart. nevermind....

Boro will be a very difficult game for the youngster, and will really test how good they are.

I do get the point Misfit - and yes, United did care on the final last year, because it was pride, L`pool beat us in a final. But if we had been knocked out a few rounds before, like by Sheffield Wed or some team, most fans wouldn`t have give a shite. Just like the Carling Cup - shite, its just a farcical, sponsered bo**ocks trophy. I was much more pleased with the Championship last season, believe me! :)
Sorry to rub it in, Gooners!

Ninja didnt i make it clear too quit the crap about the Carling Cup and Man Yoo? Ahh well obviously not. This is the Arsenal thread. The only reason im posting here is coz Boro have just been drawn against Arsenal and i want to talk Arsenal with these guys. Man Yoo dont come into it. So any more from you in here and ill be forced to delete your posts. Sorry if it sounds harsh but im in a harsh mood.

Zico - you really think you'll play the youngsters for the semi's? When does the champs league start up? As the 2nd leg is the 27/28 Jan, so it could be quite close to the champs league?

Well I certainly hope Wenger plays the youngsters, because that would be such a shame if they were told they weren't playing, especially after they got us into the semis.

I want the youngsters to play all the way to the final... blood them for if they are needed later in the season..

Plus that means that Kanu, Wiltord and Edu will get full 90mins!

Very fair point Zico. Id be gutted if i were part of the young team who got Arsenal so far only to be dropped for the big names. But saying that what happens if you get to the final? Do you play the youngsters again or go for the big guns to be sure of the win?

I also hope you play the youngsters ;) Just re-assure me, Henry doesnt class as a youngster??? <starts praying> please god no not him again!

Well if Wenger plays them in the semi-final, then he must play then in the final. Could you imagine if they get to the final, and Wenger calls up all the big boys instead of the youngsters.

I don't think Wenger is like that tho.

Us last year and now Arsenal this year.

I said last season that another big club who are also in the CL would get further again this year in order to generate some of the revenue lost by the 2nd stage....

Lo and behold Chelsea in the 1/4's and Arsenal now in the semi's.

Personally I'd love Bolton to win it and get into Europe, Big Sam is a great manager I think some so called Big Club Managers would struggle in hs situation.

Anyway congrats to Arsenal, if/when you get to the final you should go Zico although it maybe expensive for you mate watching your team in a cup final is a special occasion.

You could be right Vann, but somehow I dont think I can get hold of a £1000. ;) Maybe I should start walking now.

Nah it cant cost ya that much, dont get me wrong it aint cheap for anyone but a grand!!!

Ahh is that taking into account the average scottish persons booze budget ;)

I think he will play some of the bigger game older players from now because the clubs pride is at stake, though I reckon a few of the kids will keep their place.

Well, AW has already been cautious. Consider the WBA game, knowing it was an away game, he gave a little more experience to the side, bringing in Keown and Lauren (although they were also there to have a run around after their injuries). I think if Arsenal make it to the final, we might see the likes of Henry on the bench and possibly some of the oldies (Dennis) playing from the start. Wenger has always said he'd put out the team that he thought would win, so whatever it takes to win, I figure...

That said, I think it would be more fitting for most of the youngsters to play in the semi-final and fianl (if reached). Heh, nearly all of them can do a better job then Wiltord. Perhaps, they could give him a lesson on how NOT to be offside in every attacking move of the game.

I herd Stackie say that he will be gutted to be dropped but Wenger has said that he wants to put a winning team out and that the youngens shouldn't be put under pressure but what pressure????

It's not as if we need the trophy to get into Europe, it'll just make us the first team to win the quadruple.

All the current arsenal side have to do is win The CL, which arsenal have never done, in fact..

NO LONDON CLUB have ever won it...

The North rules english football!!

That is true due to our pathetic peers down south.

Didn`t Arsenal win the old Cup Winners Cup? Sure they did.

Oh, Zico - United - Champions. ;)

Yeah, was that not against Barcelona?

Anyway....

Well you certianly are the Champions at the moment, but come the end of this season you won't be. :D

Zico - You better hope Arsenal don`t lose form like last season! They had a big slope, and United didn`t stop winning, and we still have players like Solskjaer and Scholes to be fully fit yet! Plus some big signings in the next transfer window (I hope) it`s gonna be a tight one I think!

for sure, the prem is always tight at the top, albeit the same couple of teams... anyway, i believe ole is going to find it tough to get back into form, unless its a dramatic comeback, i really want to see him return to the starting 11, but where, i just dont know, on for forlan perhaps?

-azn

Yeah, was that not against Barcelona?

WTF?

We beat Parma in '94 1-0 back when the likes of Brolin Asprilla and Zola played for them.Smudger won it with that fantasic volly.
