if we get an early goal tomoz then i think it will be a high scorin game as chelski wont put as many ppl behind the ball and hoof it long as much :) if not then itl be decided by a bit of individual brilliance (or totaly the opposite) or jus be a boring draw!

Obviously I want an Arsenal win, but for the sake of the game all I really hope for is that we score first. I think if we can force Chelsea to operate outside of their safe game plan of 'score first and defend like trojans' then the game will be an open attacking affair.

Last years' 2-2 draw at Highbury was a fabulous game, most notable for the obvious scenes of mutual respect between both teams at the end of the match. Arsenal vs Man Yoo tends to be an agro kick-fest, but thus far games against Chel$ have been pretty good spirited. Whether that respect has survived Colegate remains to be seen, but I think the Prem is all the better for the fact that two of the biggest teams can compete at the highest level on the pitch but still shake hands afterwards.

I hate having to say this as it sounds like sacrilege, but maybe Bergy should make way in the starting XI now (shudder). RVP looked really sharp against Newcastle and you have to feel that he will scare Terry and co. more than Dennis. Plus it's nice to have Bergy on the bench so he can come on later in the game when the opposition are tired, therefore his lack of pace is less exposed. For me;

...................................Lehman

.......................Senderos.........Toure
................Ralf...............................Cole

............................Gilbert
...........................................Fabulous

..............Freddie................................Pires

...........................RVP

.........................................Titi

If Fred or Pires have a slow first half then bring on Hleb. This Chelsea team are definitely beatable, we have a great record against them and now its time to make it even greater. COME ON BOYS!!!!

pires atm needs to be dropped, hes been usless to the say the least in the centre of midfield, hes lost upfront and on the left hes been inaffective, that coupled with hlebs performance and reyes' constant flare, means AW imo needs to re-jig our attacking force

WHERE WAS BERGHKAMP? i mean, Henry was a little out of position today...i think it was Wenger's idea of him playing in the side and more of a midfielder than Striker...but if the striking forces u have beside him are V. Persie (Ljunberg sp?) and Pires, maybe playing him as a midfield is not such a great idea....he made great crosses and runs from the sides, but no one was in the middle to recieve them and change them into goals!!! If Berghkamp or Reyes came on...i'm sure it would've been A) a more interesting match B) a tighter match and probably an Arsenal Win!!

oh wellz, there's my two cents....i think they have to really settle their defense (i know, Sol is still injured), and Lehmann to stand in the right places...he was off position at least twice today with one resulting in a goal (an ugly one, but a goal newayz)

What a f'king jammy piece of west london luck! Brilliiant control by the man with 2 left feet.

That is now 2 games we've controlled posession for large amounts of the game, and yet come away with nothing. From last seasons top scorers to this - what is going on? Ping ponging the ball around the area looking for the threaded ball and not getting to the byline and crossing is getting all to familiar. Lesser (sorry!) teams we can get by, but when it comes to the top teams that actually know how to defend, we seem to hit a brick wall. There is no plan B.

How many times was Titi in midfield dropping for the ball today? Plus when it invariably does come forward, we have no one within 25 yards of the ball - Van Persie's cross in the second half being testiment to this statement. We had some great play up until the penalty box, and then it all seemed to breakdown - Titi and RVP are just on different wavelengths - they don't seem to click.

We need 2 players - creative central midfielder and a Striker... not a forward - a striker.

Jammy Jammy C*nts!

henry was terrible today imo, not up2 usual standards, he got the ball, on a number of occasions one on one with paulo fareira and jus slowed down, i was urgining him to show abit of flair and try and beat the player. instead he slowed down, let such players as makelele come and double up on him and the ball went backwards.

we seem to have lost the urgency to go forward. even wen we had chances to counter attack we seemed to wait for support and keep the ball, which gives the opponent the time to fill the middle of their third and we have no other options of offence.

today was one of the most enfuriating arsenal games as a gooner i have seen for a long time

After watchin arsenal 2day i rekon they shud put a bid in for Owen sumone who will guarentee them goals!! Henry was acting more like a midfielder 2day i think tht captaincy has gone to his head and he wants to replicate Viera. Dont get me wrong though i still think Henry is the best striker in the world jus a bad day for the legend!!

Frankly both teams were poor .We lacked guile and cutting edge up front and Chelsea's tactics were shocking for the home team (Duller then dish water)Both Teams merited the draw at best

anyway every arsenal fan knows that we need a proper striker to offer that extra dimension and also imo a box to box attacking midfielder and i think Wenger knows it too other wise he wouldnt have tryed to sighn Baptista.

Still, Early days...

Yes, that's the only positive aspect of this game. Hleb seems to be a brilliant player. He reminds me a bit of Vieira. Too bad he doesn't seem able to pull a good shot off.

O yeah and what did fat frank do to earn MOM? Hleb was clearly the best player on the park.

That was a shocking decision. Don't get me wrong, I rate Lampard as one of the very best central mids in the world and have every hope for him for England this summer, but he was anonymous the whole game. I didn't even notice him until his (admittedly killer) pass to Drogba which led to the rattiest most jammy piece of sh*t goal I have ever seen. People talk about Henry going missing for the big games but I swear Lampard has never imposed himself against Arsenal.

MOM was Makelele for me. He was just everywhere, never let anything past him. Hleb looked decent, he showed the most individual skill on the pitch.

What really fu*ks me off is that despite the doom and gloom, calls for Henry's head and for Mickey Owen to sign from a lot of Arsenal fans, I thought there were a lot of positives from Sunday. No one attacked well, for Arsenal or Chelsea, but we neutralised Robben, Duff, Crespo and Lampard which is a massive plus for a team who had serious defensive frailities last season. Our whole defence looked tight, and even though he perhaps showed a little inexperience here and there, big Phil Senderos looked very composed. Gilberto was awesome as well, he's been completely redeemed in my book. I have to admit I cussed him a bit when he first joined because I didn't realise he was a DMF, but he has stepped up to the plate so far for me.

Bottom line we didn't deserve to win, but neither did they. It was a defensive showcase with 0-0 written all over it, I would have settled for that or even losing if it was a proper quality strike against us like Crespo vs Wigan. But the fact it just bobbled off Predetor's knee when he knew nothing about it is such an injustice it's untrue. I can't believe he ran to the crowd and started giving it like 'who's de man?' after basically stumbling the ball into the net. Yeah Drogba, mad skillz mate.

Great quote from Arsene yesterday:

"It's important teams are encouraged to take the initiative or the sport itself is in danger."
"The teams that stay in your memory are the ones that play and make sport into an art. I remember the great Real Madrid, Ajax and Brazil teams."

"That's why people love football. If the way to play is not to play then I will stay at home and read a book."

Hmmm I wonder who he is refering to....(!)

Funny to see Chelsea advertising in the Metro this morning for tickets to tonights game. There's a massive ad saying 'tickets now on general sale for tonight's game against west brom!

How the fuck can the champions not fill a 40,000 seater every game?

You see, winning the Championship was the first, the next step is marketing.

You cannot become world famous overnight.

In fact there have been Chelsea summer soccer schools set up here in Hong Kong this summer.

I mean what better way to convince kids to support Chelsea than by giving them a free home jersey :p

But you Chelsea seem to think you're the greatest team in the world and i've seen enough people in Chelsea shirts to show you're well supported. I think it comes down to you having a load of arm chair fans.

As for giving away home shirts in Hong Kong I can't really seeing that do much for your attendance figures each week.

Quite frankly, If I were a Chelsea fan I would be embarrassed. It just proves the point that their wealth is not generated from being a big club built on previous success, its generated by you know who.

Are you Blackburn in disguise?

You cant just have previous sucesss. Everybody has to start somewhere!

Ha ha Chelsea has been in existence since 1905 or didn't you know that! Thats plenty of time surely to have won more trophies! Like I said before, are you Blackburn in disguise?

Where Are All The Chelsea Fans?
Woke up this morning and one of the first things I heard on the radio was Chelsea advertising that there are still tickets available for tonight's game with WBA.

Champions, and you have to advertise a home league game on the radio in order to fill your ground? Big club? You're having a laugh.

Or is it that West Brom are not a big enough draw for all those fly-by-night nouveau fans? They probably prefer to sit and home and watch Man Utd on Channel 5, seeing as they used to support them anyway.
Matt Collins, SW8

...I am writing to make a couple of points about Chelsea's support.

Firstly, I was at Chelsea v Arsenal on Sunday, sitting in the Shed Lower with the travelling fans. Arsenal fans quite rightly get stick for Highbury being quiet but our away support is as good as anyone's in the country. However, I digress from my main point - the Chelsea support was pitiful. You would have thought the place would be electric. They have won their first title for 50 years, beaten us to it and are favourites to win again this season. But they were silent. Highbury would have been noisier and I honestly believe that. Arsenal fans even ironically chanted 'Highbury Library' in response to the usual baiting we get because it was so quiet. Only the occassional 'Champions' chant came from the Chelsea fans when they got incensed by the fact that we have 11 more titles than they do!

My second point is that as I was driving to work, I heard an advert on Choice FM for tickets for tonight's Chelsea vs West Brom game. They also said that the tickets would be available on the night. It has probably been ten years since that option has been available to Arsenal fans. We sell out each week at least a month in advance regardless of opposition for Premier League and FA Cup games. It seems that success has got to Chelsea fans' heads and they feel they don't need to worry about games against teams like West Brom, or they don't need to bother about singing anymore.

Finally, just because Newcastle fans get their tops off in the cold weather, doesn't make them the best fans in the country. Where were they when they were rubbish? The stadium was half empty. Or the passionate Sunderland fans who couldnt be bothered to go and see their first home game against Charlton back in the Premier League. A

rsenal fans get derided for a lack of atmosphere at Highbury but I think this is the case in many grounds nowadays. Perhaps it is the seats, perhaps it is the corporate tickets, perhaps it is the amount of families now attending. But either way, Arsenal cop more stick for no valid reason. Our away support is excellent and we sell out home and away for every game as well as the fact that we get charged the more than most by home teams.

I hope West Brom get something tonight - not just for Arsenal's benefit, but for the sole fact that it will serve those 'loyal' Chelsea fans right thinking they dont need to bother with teams like West Brom.
Ben Gold, London

I found these letters quite amusing today and I fully agree with their points.

No no you dont understand what im saying.

No one is going to win the trophy on day 1.

And Chelsea have won their Premiership trophy 50 years later, so now its the time to start buildilng, as i said, everyone has to start somewhere.

You seem jealous however, that you know its coming, and tat the days of dominance between you and Manchester United are over.

Oh well, its not that unexpected..

I don't think you understand the point Butatista is trying to make about you not being a big club and that you haven't been built up.

A big club will fill it's ground always and you can't.

The point regarding starting somewhere is that most clubs start from nowhere to acheive trophies and build up their fan base. You haven't it's been a complete top down approach.

You really seem to think over people are jealous of you but lets be honest you've got 6 points this year when you could have had none.

Chelsea think they are the biggest club in London, maybe even the land but this is bollox.

They have no history and have resorted to advertising tickets of this evenings game on the radio as it hasn't sold out! They are the current Champions of England ffs!

No fans. No history. No class.

Obviously not, the most successful club in England is Liverpool.

Yes, no history now, but there will be as we BUILD now, tahts what im trying to say!

No class? Hah, sting of the jealous man.
