Come on Gooners, let's discuss everything Red.

We've been linked with so many players from Albania to Zambia, but who will we actually sign.

No Spurs fans aloud in!

Classic

Robin van Persie plays in the same position that Arsenal see for Bentley, which is a central role behind the strikers.

They are different players though. Van Persie oozes class, as if he is aware of a fourth dimension. Most of the attacking play goes through him.

He has a wicked left foot, and is a good crosser. He creates chances for himself and others by his awareness, more than with quick feet and ball control skills (although he doesn’t lack either quality).

Looks as to be getting back to the form when Feyenoord won the Uefa Cup after an injury.

He does gets into fights and mischief(on and off the pitch which have led to suspensions), and isn't the most popular player in Holland(an understatement), but what else would you expect from a future Arsenal player.

He isn't the most consistant player yet and is sometimes seen as a big shot, but if he signs I think he will make an impact...one way or the other.

am i the only arsenal fan that thinks letting wiltord go on a free is a waste of money.....?

Champions agree deal for Robin van Persie

- Robin van Persie -
Dutch Under-21 international striker Robin van Persie has today agreed to join newly-crowned Premiership champions Arsenal from Feyenoord, on a long-term contract for an undisclosed fee and subject to a medical.

Van Persie, 20, who has been a regular in the Feyenoord first team for the past two seasons, helped the Dutch side capture the UEFA Cup in 2002. Also that year, Robin was awarded the Best Young Talent accolade by the Dutch PFA.

Representing Holland at Under-16, Under-18 and currently at Under-21 level, van Persie has made over 70 appearances for the Rotterdam club, including matches in both UEFA Champions League and UEFA Cup competitions.

Van Persie's six goals in 27 league appearances this season have helped Feyenoord to third place in the Dutch Eredivisie, with the Club once again close to qualifying for European competition next season.

Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger said: "Robin is a great young talent and a fantastic signing for the Club. He has shown great potential at both club and Under-21 international level and will help strengthen our squad considerably.

"He has a great left foot and is a great passer of the ball with excellent vision. He is a versatile player and is comfortable playing as a striker or on the wing. We are all looking forward to Robin joining us for pre-season in July."

On agreeing his move to the Gunners, van Persie said: "I'm delighted to be joining a great Club like Arsenal, this is a dream come true for me.

"The squad is full of players at the top of their game, which they have proved by winning the English Premier League last Sunday. I'm looking forward to meeting all my new team mates in the summer and helping the Club to challenge for more honours."

The Club expects to officially register Robin van Persie on May 17, 2004, when the transfer window re-opens. He will then join up with his new team mates for the Club's pre-season training in early July.

woohoo!

Arsenal sign Van Persie

Arsenal have signed Feyenoord's 20-year-old forward Robin van Persie on a long-term deal for a reported £3m fee.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger said: "Robin is a great young talent and a fantastic signing for the club.

"He has a great left foot and is a great passer with excellent vision. He can play as a striker or on the wing."

Van Persie, who is believed to have signed a four-year deal, said: "I'm delighted to be joining a great club like Arsenal, it's a dream come true."

Arsenal had an initial bid for Van Persie rejected in the January transfer window and Wenger bought Sevilla's Jose Reyes instead.

But Van Persie will now join Arsenal in the pre-season in July.

The Dutch under-21 international said: "I'm looking forward to meeting all my new team-mates in the summer.

"The squad is full of players at the top of their game, which they have proved by winning the English Premier League.

"I am looking forward to helping the club to challenge for more honours."

Van Persie has been a regular in the Feyenoord first team for the past two seasons and helped them win the Uefa Cup in 2002.

During that year, he was named "best young talent" for the season by the Dutch PFA.

Van Persie's six goals in 27 league appearances this season have helped Feyenoord to third place in the Dutch league.

At Arsenal, he is seen as a long-term replacement for Dennis Bergkamp, whose contract runs at the end of the season and may not be renewed.

Fellow strikers Sylvain Wiltord and Kanu also face uncertain futures at Highbury and Van Persie's arrival is likely to lead to departures in the summer.

Wenger added: "Robin has shown great potential at both club and under-21 international level and will help to strengthen our squad considerably."

I can see him being cover for either Pires or Ljungberg...........can't see Wenger throwin him straight into the first team.............not yet anyway!!!

Bentley doesn't stand a chance at this rate..........he'll probably send him out on loan!!!

another great buy by wenger. if only we could clone him (wenger that is) :x .

nice sig red haired freddie, you do realise spurs are still equal to arsenal in terms of size in a lot of respects ;) . just the playing bit we need to start getting right  .

Van Persie is very stubborn and can be a 'problemchild(?)'. He plays on the left wing for Feyenoord, if he even plays at all. He has had many rows with the coach. He rates himself pretty highly. He's a left winger who wants to play at 'number 10'(behind the striker(s).

He's the type of guy, if he plays a really bad match he can still win the match by one single moment of brilliance.

Will be interesting to see how things pan out with Van Persie.

lol, sir alex would have a heart attack if he saw 2 wengers............ does anyone one know where they made dolly the sheep?

yo guys wtf man, Ljunberg might be sold!!!!

I hope this aint true, even with our new signings I would never want freddy to leave, hes awesome at his best.

.......freddie nooooooooooooooooo.
you got admit he hasn't had his best season with the injures an all, but i think it'll seriously weaken our team to sell him .

knowing wenger, if ljunberg is sold he will probably do pants for who ever signs him and the 12 odd mill will be invested in a couple of soon to be world class youngsters.

Wenger surprised at Freddie rumours
Friday, 30 April 2004

by James Pearson
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has admitted his surprise that winger Freddie Ljungberg could be on the verge of a move to Italian giants Juventus.
The Sweden international was reportedly a target for the Turin outfit, however Wenger has not spoken to anyone from the club and is bemused by the talk.

The Frenchman sees the 27-year-old, who is set to return to action following a hand injury, as a key squad member and wants to keep him at Highbury for as long as possible.

"Of course I'm very surprised to hear that," said Wenger on the Ljungberg rumour. "I have had no contact with anybody.

"I want to keep Freddie at Arsenal. He is not on the market. I can't see how this leak has come out. It's completely wrong about Juventus."

Meanwhile, Wenger is keen to sit down with Dennis Bergkamp, who is out of contract in the summer, and sort out his immediate future.

The Dutch master has indicated he would like another season with The Gunners, although Arsenal have hinted he will need to reduce his current wages.

"Bergkamp can still be here, but we have got to sit down with him and see how he feels. I hope he will still be here," he added.

With the title in the bag, Wenger has stated he will give fringe players a chance to make the 10 appearances required to earn a Premiership medal.

The likes of Jose Antonio Reyes, Kanu, Jeremie Aliadiere and Martin Keown are just short of the amount of displays needed to qualify for the honour.

"I will try to give the players who have missed games the chance to get a medal, especially Martin Keown," he continued.

"Keown was very influential in our season and a very impressive guy. We want to play our games well and to keep the party going.

"We need to concentrate on the quality of our football to keep everybody happy."

Meanwhile, Wenger again reiterated what a talent the club have in new signing Robin van Persie who will arrive from Eredivisie side Feyenoord.

"Van Persie is a great talent with great potential," Wenger said on the club's newest signing. "We have to give him an opportunity to become a great player.

"I feel he has a special talent that not everyone has."

Hey arse fans!!

As a point of interest i'd just like to know which ONE player in the world you guys would like to sign to make a great team perfect.

I'm a pool fan, but I have to say arsenal are 1 player away from being the best team in europe IMO.

Who would you guys like to see complete the jigsaw?

i know your only asking gooners but personally i think they'd be invincible if they got gerrard. i bet you wouldnt mind someone like ronaldinho or totti replacing bergkamp though !

Gerrard and vieira would be the best combo in the world.

But stevie is a scouser and always will be!!! :D

heh do you honestly believe that vapour or is it more wishful thinking. i cant really imagine him playing for anyone else but if liverpool continue to under achieve he wont really be doing himself justice if he stays.

i just cant imagine a team with gerrard and vieira in the middle ever being outplayed.

Real madrid, Chelsea, arsenal, and Manure have all enquired about steve gerrard.

Liverpool is everything to him he wont leave glory or not.

If the board decided to sell him, then they would be strung up!!!!

I take your point about "he wont really be doing himself justice" though.

Pool must bulid a team to do this wonderful player justice.

Yes but he's speaking for the club in general. The club captain says stuff like that.

ON a side note............Gerrard v's vieira when england play france will be a fantastic battle.

In two years gerrard will be the most important player in the world. I've never seen a player who is a defender, a defensive midfielder , an offensive midfielder, and has the crossing ability of a winger.

He's also the best passer of the ball in the prem.

He ain't goin nowhere!!!!!!

So you've never seen Pirlo play?

i wouldn't be so bothered if we sold freddie. i like him, he's a charismatic individual. but he's not that talented at football. he does get in there and score quite a few goals, but on the ball, he doesnt seem like he can keep it, and sometimes his kicking is so poor. selling him for 10-15million would be worth it i think.

are we talking about the same freddie ljunberg???
on his day he's one of the best attacking midfielders this country has seen.....

a poor player taht has regularly scored 15-20 goals a season, yeah, he's so bad i reckon we could take him down to the lane for ya ;)
