ArmA 2: for PC and Xbox 360.

Graphics aren't a great concern to me as I'm pretty sure they'll be quality on the 360 anyway. More worried about the gameplay being dumbed down for console owners like some games seem to have done :(

Flashpoint Elite wasn't dumbed down, only milsim ever made for Xbox1 ;) It also included a mission editor, not as complex as the PC one but it was there.

save up and buy a new pc :BOP: best of both worlds

i cant believe they are in game screenshots.

Rad: what PC spec you got?

Intel core 2 duo, 2.40ghz - 2gig ram, 250gig hd, Geforce 8400

Nothing special at all but it was the about the best I could get at the time and gives me plenty room to upgrade.

That's not that bad, it's about the same as my Dell 380 Precision. I have upgraded the graphics card and PSU though but only to a Radeon HD 4350 (it was only £40+£20 for the PSU).

I can play most new games on high at the resolution of my 17" monitor (1280x1024) so I assume it will run Arma 2 fine. I just can't justify forking out £700+ for a new computer to play a few extra games when I already have a PS3.

Not bad. you can easily slap on a 4850 which can be bought for just shy over a £100

You dont need a £700 to play a few games. all your pc needs is a 4850 and your sorted mate

I have a 4870, really nice card :) Even if control panel died with new drivers and ATI don't bother helping you fix it :(

So from a quick look at my specs "Intel core 2 duo, 2.40ghz - 2gig ram, 250gig hd, Geforce 8400" will I be looking at a juddery mess with Ps1 graphics if I bought this game?

Not at all but you'll lose some of the definition. I could play NBA 2K9/Fallout 3 with my default Quadro FX1400 128MB graphics card (worse than yours) happily on medium settings and it still looked great.

wow really? i have a 7800gt card on my old pc and i struggle to play nba 2k9 at low settings.

At rad: All you need a new gpu card and your good to go. if some of us manage to get this game, maybe we can organise and create a evo web clan and do some missions together ;)

Can we join a populated server and create our own squad of say 8 people and do whatever missions and objectives the commander gives us?

is ArmA 2 a bit like battlefield 2 in other words with the squad and commander system where you give orders to different squads?

Placebo, since your the resident expert on AA2; will this game require players to be more tactical when playing online or will players be able to run & gun. I ask this only because i like shooters and till now only play single player because of all the ADD generation ruining the online/multi-player aspect.

From experience of the first one, it's about as far from a run-and-gun shooter as you can get. Not only are the maps ginormous but there's no HUD and no radar from what I can remember, so it's not like you're up-close and personal when you spawn alá Call of Duty. You die very quickly if you don't know what you're doing (in-fact that's the only reason that I couldn't really get into it, it was so complex and so difficult that it's very offputting at first - it's definitely one of those games you have to spend a lot of time with to get any good at it, or maybe I'm just crap at it).

It would be quite worrying for my future prospects if I'm not the resident expert on ArmA2 ;)

Online PvP I'm sure you'll find plenty who play it run and gun, but the game is built as a milsim, there's bullet penetration and bullet drop and the effects of sunlight in your face and camouflage and concealment and all that kind of thing, so the run and gunners will probably find themselves massively disadvantaged tactically if they come up against people who play the game using militaristic tactics. There will of course be plenty of people who want to play the game as if it's a pretty BF2 type thing and that's more than possible, I'm sure mods will be created which are similar to the more claustrophobic twitch shooter type games.

Basically you'll find servers where people play it like it's CS, and you'll find servers where people play it like they're in an episode of Ross Kemp goes to Afghanistan or something :)

I'm looking forward to this game, and it's not often I say that about a shooter.

Games like BF, COD etc. just don't appeal to me at all - you complete a short story mode and then all you can do is go online and play a bunch of elitist knobheads who play it 24/7 who just run and gun and have 10x more kills than deaths.

It sounds like ArmA 2 will force people into using realistic tactics and working together instead of everyone going off on their own Rambo-esque rampage, and I would much prefer it like that.

Of course i'd also like a long, deep and involving single player story mode with good AI, but games like that are very rare these days, here's hoping ArmA 2 is one of those rare games :).

By the way, those graphics are stunning - I wouldn't have expected them to be of such quality with Bohemia Interactive (as far as i'm aware) not funds/resources that the creators that the more popular games (COD, BF etc.) have - they have done a great job :).

I just played the latest build and the performance improvements are just staggering, graphically it looks just as good as the static pics you see on the last page but it moves smoothly as well, plus there's almost zero LOD loading which for an open world game is just phenomenal :)

Yep resource wise Bohemia run very minimally, it's probably something like 50 people in all, maybe 35 based at their offices and another 15 or so working externally (such as me).

To put that into perspective I believe Codemasters have a staff of 250+ and an estimated budget of £15m or so for their "Flashpoint" game.

Thanks for the response Placebo :TU:....don't worry I'll keep it on the down-low (that whole resident expert dilemma).

LOL!!! Placebo, in your views of the current state of the game. is it nearly finished? are there still things to add or fix in the game? a simple yes or no will do if you cant give out too much info about the subject

Ill think im gonna have to try the demo of the first one again to see what its like

Last time i tried it my PC was shite and couldn't even run it properly

any specific countries that were photographed and taken as reference for the world in arma2? well, it is some sort of "russia-based" ;) game, but were did the reference come from, do you know, placebo? just curious.

game looks fantastic.

I wouldnt bother the first game only become playable after quite few patches. :))

over a meg a second if anyone wants the old demo, the other links i tried were sloooooooooow

The ArmA1 demo is really and not the best example of what ArmA1 became after some solid patching and what ArmA2 will be like :)

Geographical data is based on the Czech region of České Středohoří

Top image being the ingame map and bottom being České Středohoří in Google earth, an area of approximately 225Km2 has been extracted to serve as the Island of Chernarus.

The buildings and nature in the game is almost all native to the Czech Republic and looks very familiar to anyone who's visited the country :)
