I think Rob was referring more to the fact that Konami has (more) accurate stats for star players than it does for lesser players. Which is somewhat understandable from Konami's perspective because much more is known about what makes Ronaldo special than say what makes Liverani, Tymoshchuk, etc. special.

This doesn't take away from the fact that Konami's stats system is capable of producing a nearly identical videogame version of a real life player. However, in order to do this, you must fully understand what each stat means and how if affects the player and, above all else, have a good understanding of the real life player.

To your point, there certainly is a difference between a team like Barcelona and Hull with the default stats. However, the default stats are REALLY off for a team like Hull and only slightly off for a team like Barca. If you're a fan of accuracy, then you will most likely spend quite a bit of time editing the players. For me, it is part of the enjoyment of the game.

Its all down to restrictions and feeling, when you play ISS and pass the ball around you instantly get the feeling of what the players can and cannot do.

When a so called lesser player has the ball you know before he gets the ball that he can't play a crisp pass out wide to Joaquin so you don't bother attempting that particular pass. In the other game lesser players may have poor passing stats but they can still comfortably play that crisp ball out wide. Its annoying and isn't realistic.

Back in the day (PES5/6) I would position Pirlo in front of my defence and dictate the game through him, he would pick up the ball from the defenders and set the tempo. This isn't possible in the other game, despite the fact that he has better passing stats than Gattuso, they still feel the same.

It annoys me to the extent that I can't play with certain teams in the other game like my beloved Spurs because players like Luka Modric don't feel right and I can't play the way I want too.

Great post. This is what I love about PES and is why I feel it has always had more of a managerial/tactical element to it, in that you are rewarded for playing a formation/system based on the qualities and limitations of your players. In the other game I hardly ever play around with the tactics and team selection because, regardless of the players and formation I pick, there is this underlying feeling that it doesn't make much difference.

That is why they have sites devoted just to stats so we can have as close a representation as possible (barring the flaws of the game) to real life.

I think this is what brings so many people back to PES despite Konami constantly messing the franchise up.

Nice post, no doubt PES does it better than FIFA but you do get some sense of difference in FIFA too (well I do), no doubt they need to work on it.
I'm interested to see how the new sliders are going to work in helping you to tweak your tactics to better suit your players in this area too...

PES 2010 (50 %)vs FIFA 10 (75 %) - PES look better.
Now on GC will be real comparison ! Both games will be advanced build !

Magic ? Hole game have same unexplained movements . I don't want to make review of the video . All can see .And other video whit Blanco . Was so bad.. so bad and all say " This is PC version " But it's not !
You can find PES 2010 50 % build video in youtube. Yes it's not so long but look much better from FIFA 10 , for me.

What is the matter with you bud ?

You surely must understand the fundemental differences between the two titles that make them both completely different to each other ?

If you cant see that, with all due respect, you have nothing to debate.

PES is PES, Fifa is Fifa. Apart from the fact they are both Football titles, that is the only real comparison you can make. Until EA produce a Fifa game that totally places all the emphasis on the individualism of the players it replicates, then you simply cannot compare them.

They both come from totally different angles. Both are excellent games, but please appreciate them both for what they are.

PES will never be able to compete with EA's stunning visuals, animations, presentation, authenticity, licences, etc etc. And Fifa, unless EA changes the way they approach their game, which I beleive they dont need to as the market has a place for both titles and representations, then EA cant compete with Konami's total individualistic player simulation based title.

The argument about which is better lies with the gamer, and what he/she prefers to play. Remove the Fanboyism, and both titles deserve the respect for what they are.

Again some idiots can't just accept 2 football games, it has to be either or the other.Just hope to have 2 good games and enough of these e-rivalries, it's not as if you get paid for defending either companies.
If you like both games then great but if you only like one but respect the others who don't share your view.

I do not agree with You because Pes and Fifa both are football games and this is normal that people are compere two football games.In some aspects Fifa is good in another Pes.For me compere things what have Fifa and Pes is something normal.For example we can look at Fifa's animations,graphics,music and compre to Pes animatioms,graphics etc.When I ask the question if You believe I thought all the comparisom of the whole two games which contains in palticular:Animations,lighting,graphics,model of players etc.

And also, after FIFA10's 360 degree movement turned out to need the close control button to be pressed, I am really optimistic about PES2010.

Seeing the ball bounce all over the place with it shifting posession 10 times in 5 seconds in the latest FIFA10 video makes me remember everything I hate about EA's efforts...

FIFA 10 was excellent and I think it will win a lot of people over, because a lot of the things that keep people playing PES are now present in FIFA (floaty shots replaced by real shots, being able to dribble and beat a man, movement and build-up play rewarded, fantastic response times).

BUT, that doesn't mean there can't be two games, and that PES 10 will be the worst game in the history of the world. Nobody has compared the two as of yet and PES 10 is still a dark horse because nobody has played the build with 360 dribbling and motion capture (if it exists, which is the common belief).

To be frank, you're full of shit if this is your justification for writing off PES. The game has a reputation for being poor, therefore all PES games in the future are going to be poor. My skills of extrapolation

As for using Adam to try and prove that the game will be crap, grow up. If you think you've got him pegged then congrats, but using him as some sort of barometer for PES is never going to work if you only choose to believe him when he's being negative.
