Your favourite game for local multiplayer and single player

I'll begin:

1) Local multiplayer: WE9LE
Among all the games that I've tried (apart from modded FC25, which I can't play atm), I find this 20-years-old classic pes to be the absolute best. With gameplay module, Kingsley's exe, adjusted stats (ciais and tinker's formula), speeder between 0.8 and 0.9 and many other modules (including the awesome referee module), this game offers one of the most balanced gameplays ever, with realistic end-match data (fouls included, beast of a game) and the classic ps2 pes charm. Never found a game with such an emphasis on both balanced gameplay and player stats relevance. I could have also chosen Pes5/We9, but I can't stand how easy it is to score due to unresponsive goalkeepers. This glaring issue is partially fixed in WE9LE, it seems. It's a shame, because otherwise I would slightly prefer Pes5

2) Honestly, I don't know. In Pes5/we9(le), the CPU is just too basic and non-existent attacking-wise. I've tried elaf's tool and Kingsley's exe (not at the same time, obviously), but the AI just can't be redeemed.
Many other games are too arcade for my taste and this leaves me with few available options. Maybe PES2008 ps2 would be a good choice for its awesome AI, but it can't be modded like the other games.

Unfortunately, I never managed to try Fifa 16 1.00 exe. A real pity, because it seems to be a goat contender from what I heard

I understimated we9le till these last days for a weird reason: i putted a Pes5 option file to translate players name (i don't have a PC and this Is the only way i found) ,but this make the a.i even worse than Pes5 one.
Restoring the original option file and finally i can see the better a.i the game Is praised for on both defense and attack side.
I play the original PS2 version without mods, but this game is still now in 2025 the best one when it comes to physical challenges. Foul counts speak for itself too.
Dribbling is a little weird on Pes5/we9 and Le but it's satisfying, because u have to think better how much, when and where touch the ball..

Generally PS2 we/Pes titles are still the best games Imho: they lack technology, animations, but this gave them a lot of consistency. There are not contextual animation to been triggered, so when you move a player he does what you expect he have to do.
On these games physics Is amazing too, with a lot of variety in shooting and real physical battles.
There is a thing that this games do a lot better than new ones, something that even best fifas never did good: the interaction ball/player/opponent. On these games you have to really intercept the ball from your opponent's feet to stole It,there are not contextual animations,no magnetism, but Just your position, the ball position and opponent One.
Fifa, and the best fifas too, never did this right, and defender just "drain" the ball from opponent's feet when he is in the "right" Place.. games like pes2020/21 do this thing even worse than fifa.
Fifa 16 which is one of the best if not the best fifa,It is not close to best PS2 games in my opinion.

So after saying all my bullshits i think my favorite one for local single Is we9le and for local multi we10le

Exactly. Newer games lack the level of randomness and unpredictability of the ps2 ones. Despite technological advancements, they're far more monotonous, especially when it comes to players' interactions and shots

I guess because competitive players want them to be like this nowadays.
I mean, they even do have a point, after all: given a known input, they'd expect the output to be consistent (e.g. if one makes 100 times the same pass, with the same strength and the same direction, he'd expect the ball to behave all the times in the same way).
Not abiding by this rule would make the gameplay inconsistent, introducing the "randomness" that frustrates those players (because then one would say "my input was correct but the game decided that the pass would go astray anyway").
Unfortunately, those random moments are what we are after, but I see that it can't be accepted by competitive players that only want the game to 100% represent their input at every time (see also how they ended up "breaking" dribbling and shooting animations in order to have a command executed as soon as it's sent by the player, without waiting for the animation to finish/to be consistent) and unfortunately they're the audience these modern games cater to.

I like PES5!

I eventually tried the 5 series of the old PES recently, after all these years playing PES6 which is so easy to beat and your opposite teams seem so inapt at attacking you, although they have the best graphic and numerous good patches for the old PES.

Contrast to most members' opinions, I found PES5 is more funny and alive when compared to WE9LE, mostly because the latter seems easier to score whereas the former is harder to beat.

And I cannot stand the Korean commentary though I really like the less foul system from WE9LE and some minor fixes like the ball bounces back when it hits the adboards, in PES5 the ball only bounces back when it hits the adboards located behind the goals.

Sorry for my bad English.

I had the same feelings when i used pes5 option file on we9le. This make we9le easier than Pes5. Using its original option file, i don't know why, but make it a lot more challenging than Pes5.

Don't know if the option files make the difference though I did once replace the WE9LE option file with the default option file from PES5 in order to see player names in English.

After this attempt I switched back to the original one from WE9LE, the names turning back to Korean, but it seemed the level had nothing to change, still I feel PES5 is harder to score than WE9LE.

And both games have been playing via the kingsley813's gameplay 5.5 exe files, don't know whether the mods make any difference.

Unfortunately, the AI sucks (the only, real issue of these games). Sometimes, though, it wakes up and scores bangers.
A short video about a decent cpu performance (sorry for the awful quality, but I'm not at home now)
