Why was PES 5 and 6 online so much better?

I´ve been asking myself lately why PES 5 and 6 were so much better online. For me PES 5 was online as good as offline, PES 6 had starting problems, but they fixed it.

So my thought is:

What has changed between PES 5,6 and PES 2008,2009.

1. The game has always relied on P2P connections, right?. So nothing changed.

2. Are there more online players? I remember 10 full lobbys for most countries back in PES 5 and 6.

The only difference betweeen old and new PES is the used graphic´s engine. Either there was a general change in the netcode, or the Konami are in huge trouble adjusting the netcode to the new engine.

I don´t believe Konami will change its online policy towards a game based on server connections.

1. There would be used too much server resources for that.

Compared to a server based game, there are always only 2-4 players on a server slot, instead of 16-32 per server. Even 100 players mean at least 25 servers. Most players prefer single player games, so there are 50 servers in use for 100 players! This is a total resource overkill! And that is only 1 lobby!

2. This will be too expensive.

What´s a possible solution?

1. We need a direct IP patch, what´s the problem Konami, the game´s sold, your reputation is almost gone. The only reason direct IP isn´t used is the fear of piracy.

2. Maybe Konami should think about charging money for online gaming to make the game server based. I think there would be a mass of users willing to pay for lagless online. You´ll pay you get full service.

I know many people will say they´ve already payed for online gaming through purchasing the game. That´s right, but as I mentioned earlier, the 2-4 player connections is a special resource problem.

What do you think, am I completely wrong?

Direct IP isn't a solution at all!!!
People want to compete online for points wins and rankings. They want to increase their ratings. Now just tell me why would someone possibly want to play a direct ip match where he'll/we'll receive no points and no win in our stats?!

The reason why PES 5 and 6 did not have so many problems online was because the system specs were made to have less system specs there was no 3D crowd and no massive differences between low/medium and high detail. I think that's a factor because when someone has a weaker computer and he tries to play his game on a resolution and game quality such as high the performance may be poor and with a poor performance VS someone online who has stronher computer it creates lag again.
Im not quite sure whether the servers are the only route of this evilicious problem.:CONFUSE:

But I think the problem persists between the quality low vs high. Because I expereinced the same thing in PES 2008 and when my opponent chose low quality which was the plain pitch with no pattern texture on the pitch; and I entered to play him we had no lag.
Some how konami gotto configure and fix this. You see many heavy games like Crysis Warhead the multiplayer there of Crysis Wars has no lag theres no lag when playing Call of Duty 4 or even FIFA 09. Because they are well configured and utilised. Not just server wise.

totally agreed...

only silly kids and potential cheaters care about points and rank.
i want to 'play' lag free without the cheaters. direct ip provides this.

No I think its a human instinct. And its not true that only cheaters want to play for ranking points. Because if this is the case how about banning all professional footballers, snooker players, tennis players, etc?!?! Are they cheaters too? Is Rafael Nadal a Cheater? Is Tiger Woods a cheater?!
what your saying is silly people want to play online and get points because they want to be the best. Its not just cheaters who want to be the best and be up at the top of the ranking!

Ok, there are many people who care for positive results. But having a really demanding and lag free game, is more important.

Look at other games. I like to play Trackmania Nations Forever. There I know, that I will never be one of the best out there. But on a good server, it´s a lot of fun. The lag of the opponents isn´t important, the game runs fluid for me all the time.

I think yearning for points is really a kid problem. The game runs like shit, but I win all the time. Ridiculous...

I don´t believe the computer power is that important. If so, I should have had some lag free games with PES 2009, because there must be someone with an E8400, 8800 GT or equivalent, I´ve played against.

whats silly here is to make a analogy to real life sports players and a pc game. although that said i can counter your silly argument if you like... Michael Schumacher cheater??! hell yes! :BLEH:
on the whole most people play sports and games because its fun.
you will get a minority that think 'IM THE BEST' i don't mind these people thinking what they like. unless they get to spoil everyone else's fun. which is the case with PES since direct IP was removed.
BRING BACK DIRECT IP

people are "fishing" victims...
Anytime I join a game not hosted by me...there is a huge lag....people upload on the backround...(that can be done even on consoles)
So ranking is a source of lag....

lol at people care ing about ranks and points, ,

if anything that ruins 06, its all about the fun to me, and 09 is so lifeless, milstwell play with ai then humans, robot style.

Even on 06 u get noob cheats, like last night 2v2 , tacoco was his name i think , we choose real betis, he goes ac milan , we win 2-1.o and his lame group is rasnk num 1 lol.

so yes i would love aq direct ip . to play this with MY FRIENDS

Ranks, tournaments and stuff can be easily made with webpages so there is no reason to include them in the game. Direct ip would be the best.

Because of game engine !
PES5 and PES6 using Renderware engine (EA bought Renderware Team --> Renderware don't sale for others)

PES 2008 and 2009 using new engine (may be in-house engine) and network programmers of Konami are so bad --> lag lag lag :TTTH:

Direct ip would solve it and give konami a bit of credibilty back. As for people wanting to gain points and acheive a better rankings, thats complete rubbish. With direct ip people can produce their own leagues, just look at pesladder that worked with direct ip on we8 which was the pes4 and was a huge success. Its not far off dead in the water now due to konami piles of crap since pes6.

At least it would prouve Konami to care about the customers. That´s Konami biggest problem now: Many people think they just take my money and give a shit.

Well I've just played pes2009 2v2 with the 1.20 patch for the first time, using French servers. Why are the English servers always empty? Thought it would be better, but unfortunately it's even worse. The amount of lag is horrendous, with players sliding, teleporting all over the place. I have a 8mb connection and have no problems playing pes 06 even on french servers, but Pes 2009 online for me is beyond a joke.

The reason why the English servers are empty because too many English people and as well as people from the UK play FIFA. FIFA 09 for example even though it may suck on the PC it still brings huge popularity because everywhere there are advertisements here especially in the UK adboards in premier league matches, etc you see "LETS FIFA 09" advert.

PES is very unpopular in the UK. Many people don't even know that PES is available on the PC that's how unpopular it is. And I know the UK is not the only English speaking country but even if you were wondering why there are no players from the United States again Football aint popular in the states.

PES is popular amongst Other European countries and Asia. But sadly not in the UK:((

Where you get the idea pes isn't popular in the UK i don't know. You obviously are quite new to pes. If you looked on the pes5/6 uk servers at their peak they were rimming with players.

'Rimming' with players???...........

Sorry but i've just pissed myself laughing......

Let's suppose you could recreate/redesign the PES servers from the ground up.
- What would be your most wanted features for this server.
- Which PES version (6, 2008, 2009, ...) would you want to play the most on this server.

To be fair direct ip should be given as an option to supplement the rankings which imo are meaningless and are for who can play the most noobs/games to get high up the rankings.

I, and im sure a lot more other than myself were happy when direct ip was there, on pesladder with grown up people (well most :BLEH:) in a competitive league where you wouldnt get very far in the league playing weaker players all day and would get rewarded for beating players like Wallace  (if you were lucky).

At its peak you would get over 500 in the english server on a saturday night maybe more, might not be fifa quantities but a damn site better than the 15 we're getting on pes2009 don't you think pissing myself laughing too.

I'm sure you are mate....Konami are pissing themselves laughing more though.......at us cos they've conned us out of our money for 2 years in a row now.

I'd rather rim someone than give them another penny.

I know exactly what your saying m8. I wont be purchasing again. 2 years to be fooled by false promises is enough for me. Its just a question of where do we go from here. Do i re-install pes6 for the 2nd year running or do i wait for some genius to figure out some way of getting direct ip for this damn game as i quite enjoy it offline. But like most i purchase for the online element.

Listen, we already wrote a private server for pes 2008.
We need to know if we should write one for pes6 or pes 2009.
And it would be nice to get some feedback from the community.

btw who is we?
i never saw the one for 2008 or i would have played it more.

I'll pay konami if they write a direct IP PES6 add-on, but it's impossible, they lost miles away from 2 years ago, yet still fool me. stupid konami, peace...
