I´ve been asking myself lately why PES 5 and 6 were so much better online. For me PES 5 was online as good as offline, PES 6 had starting problems, but they fixed it.
So my thought is:
What has changed between PES 5,6 and PES 2008,2009.
1. The game has always relied on P2P connections, right?. So nothing changed.
2. Are there more online players? I remember 10 full lobbys for most countries back in PES 5 and 6.
The only difference betweeen old and new PES is the used graphic´s engine. Either there was a general change in the netcode, or the Konami are in huge trouble adjusting the netcode to the new engine.
I don´t believe Konami will change its online policy towards a game based on server connections.
1. There would be used too much server resources for that.
Compared to a server based game, there are always only 2-4 players on a server slot, instead of 16-32 per server. Even 100 players mean at least 25 servers. Most players prefer single player games, so there are 50 servers in use for 100 players! This is a total resource overkill! And that is only 1 lobby!
2. This will be too expensive.
What´s a possible solution?
1. We need a direct IP patch, what´s the problem Konami, the game´s sold, your reputation is almost gone. The only reason direct IP isn´t used is the fear of piracy.
2. Maybe Konami should think about charging money for online gaming to make the game server based. I think there would be a mass of users willing to pay for lagless online. You´ll pay you get full service.
I know many people will say they´ve already payed for online gaming through purchasing the game. That´s right, but as I mentioned earlier, the 2-4 player connections is a special resource problem.
What do you think, am I completely wrong?
