Real Betis' new signings start banging in the goals !!

It took just 2 games for big Dirk Kuijt to find his feet in Spain.
In the 4:1 win over Villareal at home, the Dutchman was the man
of the match with 2 clinical strikes after good assists
from Edu and Rivera.

The other new striker Cavenaghi scored his first in this game
after Kuijt was denied his hat-trick.

The new playmaker of the team D'Alessandro has also gelled in
with his first goal in the 3:2 defeat to Real Sociedad.

In other news Betis were knocked out of the Copa Del Rey
after drawing 0:0 against Deportivo La Coruna who won 1:0 on agg.
The match was a tepid affair, with Betis failing to register even
one shot on goal !!!

Manager "Mathejo" said that his team will now concentrate
on finishing in the top 6 to get a chance to compete in the Champions
League.

Call me an idiot if you want, but this is the first version of the ML I've played in a while and I've got to the end of the first season and I'm wanting to bring some players in on frees.

I've played with the options and searched for players using different parameters but even those at the end of their contracts and free agents need a transfer fee.

Is there a way to bring people in on free transfers?

Oliveira the super sub!!

Brazilian striker Ricardo Oliveira delivered a timely reminder
to his coach by firing both goals for Betis' 2:1 win away to Santander.
The 2nd goal coming in injury time.
In the next match he was provider for Rivera's 2:1 winner against Valencia
at home.
Olivera said "this will show the manager that I'm still one of the
better strikers at the club, I will make it difficult for him
to drop me.."
He was dropped for a few games in favour of the new strike pairing
of Kuijt and Cavenaghi.
The dutchman has impressed with 3 goals in 5 games.

Mathejo the coach had this to say
"I am glad to see my strikers score and create goals...Oliveira is
still part of my plans inspite of Kuijt and Cavenaghi.....
we are now 2 pts behind 2nd placed Real Madrid...and almost sure
of the top 6....we will give our best!!"

My team are going great guns, started off very well in the league, top of the league with around 8 or 9 games gone. Champions League (WEFA) games are coming up, still to see group.

So far only had 1 defeat to Besiktas away, although it was a scandal. 1-0 defeat from an unbelievable penalty decision. My Goalkeeper pulled off a great save to prevent a goal, however as the ball was going out of play for a throw-in, my goalie ran back to his goal, however he bumped into an opposition striker and the ref awarded a pk.

Betis finish 4th in La Liga

Manager "Mathejo" told a press conference in Sevilla tonight:
"I think we had a good season. Our aim was to qualify for the UEFA
Champions league and we managed to reach the 1st group qualification
stage with a limited squad.
All our new signings contributed well with crucial goals.
This summer we need to buy some more new players. I am looking
at adding one more striker, 2 midfielders, and a defender."

The press asked the manager about rumours of Joaquin leaving
the club.
Mathejo had this to say :
"Joaquin is one of our best players, but no player is bigger than
the club. If the right offer comes in, and it has to be a big
offer, then we will consider it. We have some money to spend,
but not too much, so we may have to rely on a few sales and
also swap deals."

Real Betis finished the 2005 season in 4th spot after collecting
16 wins, 7 draws, 7 losses. They had the 2nd best defence in the league
conceding 23 goals. But their offence only managed 39 goals.

Diego Forlan was signed from struggling Villareal.

3 new defenders: Squillaci (Monaco), Sorin (Villareal), Diogo (Real Madrid) -
Sorin said "Betis is a rising club in Spain, they have a lot of
talent, and with my fellow Argentines, it's easy for me to gel into

Clarence Seedorf joined in a shock swap deal from AC Milan.

Season 2006 Preview:
Betis start off the La Liga campaign at home to Real Madrid.
Manager Mathejo said "it's a great game, they are one of the best,
our boys will be up for this one. Especially the new signings.
Our target is to enter the top 3 this season and challenge for
all trophies."

Betis make their debut in the Champions League Qualifiers in a tough
looking group with Juventus, Liverpool and Werder Bremen.
Mathejo said "Our first match at home to Liverpool will be very tough.
They won the cup 2 seasons ago, and we are new. Hopefully we will do
well, because all the pressure is on Juve and Liverpool."

Coming to the end of 2nd season of ML with Real.

Going into the final run I was 5 pts clear on top of the table from Barca. Played Barca in probably what was the 'title decider'.

Took and early lead with Schwarz turning home a loose ball after, Ronaldo's shot was blocked. Lost concentration,and let Barca into the game when Guily scored, because Kompany was backing off and not closing him down.

2nd half went forward and took the lead again, thru a Ronaldo header off a Carlos corner. Hwwever the games swung afterward. Barca pushed forward with Ronaldinho, Eto and Guily tormenting my CB's constantly. They were wsitching paly at will and was finding it ahrd to cope with the movement.Barca socred 2 quick goals not long after, both 1st time volleys from By Guily/Eto from Ronaldino crosses Score 2-3, Barca leading. Pushed forward more looking for an equalizer and left gaps at the back. Deco stole thru off a long ball from midfield to put the game out of my reach in the last 5 mins.

Barca had now closed the gap to 2 pts. Next match played Ath. Bilabo. Was improtant to get a result to keep some distance. Some players dropped, due to poor performance against Barca. Took the lead again just before halftime, with Robinho curling a sidefoot shot from acute angle after being put thru by Zidane.

Missed a lot of chances with Ronaldo/Robinho/Zidane with these guys blasting over/wide when having clear shots. Bilbao scored a shock equalizer from a corner with 5 mins remaining.
Again defence loss concentration and not closing down the CF arriving late at far post.

Pushed forward but ran out of time to get and equalizer. Really should have sewn this game up as Real dominated thruought but forwards left their scoring boots at home.

Barca in turn won their game and now tied with Real on 66pts. Real 2nd because of Barca's superior Goals Scored.

Have a feeling that the title has been lost already. Theres just 4 mathces to go, and REAL nead to WIN ALL and hope Barca lose.

Div1 Cup final gainst Barca again. Changed the formation to counters Barca. Moved Robinho to LWF. Ronaldo as CF. Put Shwarz as ST with Beckham re-instated to a right sided CMF role. Gravesen back in as DMF.

Div1 Final new formation worked. Deefer defence contered Barca's 3 forward's of Ronaldinho, Eto And Guily. Scored 4 goals with Ribinho netting 2, Schwarz 1 and Raul late in the game when coming on for Schwarz.

Should pick up the lads spirits a bit, and concentrate on getting max points in the remaining League fixtures adn hopefully Barca will drop a point somewhere.

Not really a problem for me. I rotate a lot. and there are only a few culprits who cosistently get high fatigue. Zidane, BEcks, Ronaldo, Schwarz, Helguera usually can't paly > 2 games. Baptista can go 4-5 games. I've got cover in almost every position.

Hint: Use less arrows in formation screen. I find in WE9 the arrow movements are a bit too exaggerated. I put OMF on forward arrows he'll end up palying like a winger, sometimes get on the byline when play pushes up. Too much so, thus fatigue sets in faster.

I just started a team in the master league in the english division. But I notice that the spain division is not there. All the players that are in la liga are not in a team (and hence not developing). I have players like ronaldo, robinho, torres not playing in any team and that sucks. Plus I cant trade for them.

What happen and how do I avoid that?

i agree with jiwa, there are only few players who get tired in my
team, and I rotate players at times.
There are many guys in my team who have played the first 6 games
of the season.

Betis v Liverpool 0:0 --- a frustrating draw in which Liverpool defended
and held out for the draw

Bremen v Betis 1:1 --- Cavenaghi rescued a point in a game which we should
have won

Betis v Juve 1:0 --- Forlan scored a superb winner and Betis held
on to record a famous win

Liverpool v Betis 1:0 --- Morientes scored a last minute heartbreaker

Betis v Bremen 2:1 --- Forlan scored twice and Betis held on to qualify

Juve v Betis 0:0 --- dominated the game, unlucky not to win.

I started my 6th season with valencia with deafeating deportivo in a away match 0-2 with reyes scoring both of the goals then i beat real madrid 5-1 at home with reyes scoring 2 penalties and forlan scoring a hatrick.

in the last 16 group stages of the Champions league.

Manager Mathejo's reaction:
"We certainly wanted to avoid Barcelona, but atleast we are
familiar with their style. Last season they beat us once thanks
to an injury time goal. But we almost beat them too in the away
match. This time I hope we can beat them.
Juventus is also a team we have just played twice in the previous
group, and they failed to score against us, but we know we have
to play even better at this stage.
Roma are not easy, it's a great team.
But I think Betis will give a tough game to any team."

Big mistake in my opinion.

I'm in my second season with Real Madrid as well (6*). I narrowly missed out on Champions League qualification in the first season, but am in the UEFA CUP and am the holder of the FA CUP as well from the first season and am currently in the final of the FA CUP for this season as well (I play Valencia).

I bought Kaka, Vicente, Joaquin and Ronaldinho and the only person I've kept is Ronnie. Unless you shoot often from a distance don't bother with Kaka, his control is not good enough to dribble and pass through defences. He's designed in real life and in the game to burst through and counter attack but this game doesn't really allow that kind of game, it makes you play slow posession football.

Ronaldo degrades but not to an extent that is detrimental. Never let go of him, he only needs half a chance just like real life. He is injured for 5 weeks currently for me though.

Likewise I've always thought of selling Raul but the guy just seems to play the 'second top' role too well before the window approaches and I decide to offload someone else. He's maybe too one footed but I can always graft performances out of him. I might replace him with Adriano like yourself though at the end of the season as Raul doesn't score goals for me either.

I personally have Cicinho and Carlos on the wings, Lugano and Ramos in the center and Vanden Borre and Kompany on the bench. I also have Perea on the sidelines as well - along with a retired Maldini!

But I'm still only in third position in the league.

I sold Baptista as he isn't the kind of player I like and he never scored goals either. Beckham too went as soon as I could get him out, likewise for a lot of the other players including Salgado. Buy some cheap utility players and they will do the job at the end of the day when others are tired. Filipe for example works well as a carlos replacement.

Kaka doesn't add anything however, neither does Vicente or Joaquin. At least not for a team like Madrid - maybe if they were the focal points?

Well, 2nd season of ML is over. Real gave their all with 4 wins out of 4 on the final stretch. 2-0, 3-1, 4-0, 3-0. Hoping Barca just dropped a point somewhere. But Barca presevered and had a narrow 1-0 win against Valencia overall did just enough to clinch the title.

Real has to settle for 2nd place. Can't fault the lads though, its that 1 game (against Bilbao) after defeat to Barca, that turned the season. Anyway, its now time to look on to the next season of with CL football.

As decided by the mangaer, the end season "GREAT MADRID SALE' was underway. Hoping to clear out some non-performing Galacticos.

Kept getting rejected by Adriano, he's just not interested in coming here. Raul played very well in the last 3 matches getting 3 goals. But in the end he was off to Milan in a awap deal for Kaka.

No takers for other Galacticos. Got Baumjohann from Shalke04. He's only as a backup for Schwarz who has blossomed into a great target man at the yong age of 18. Only great things for him.

No takers, so most of the galacticos are still there. Team palyed well in friendlies almost every week of off season. Not too happy with Robinho's contribution as he's too lighweight to compete when going against tougher teams.

First match of new season. Against Real Sociedad. Struggled to find footing. going behind to 2 goals in 1st half. BOth again due to defences not covering well. Anyhow stuck with it and got and back a goal from owen in the 2nd half. Moved Kaka into an more advanced role on the wing. Had a few chances as Soceiadads defence was very tight. Last minute, Kaka put thru by Beckham. Instead of going on, he cut back. Thought the chance had gone. But Kaka manged to get an superb inswinging cross to the far post which Ronaldo just manged to get a head to. Difficult header as he was marked and made contact while backing away. Ball just made in in past the foot of the far post.Real equalize 2-2. Had another chance to Baumjohann in the closing seconds, but keeper manages to save. Cheers to the boys for showing great fighting spirit.

Good to see that the off-season training focussing on training paid of. Early days yet, but Real happy with the point for now.

Yeah no takers for any Galacticos dutring the "Great Madrid Sale". Ended up making a awap deal Raul for Kaka, and another one exhanging Guti for Sneidjer. Also Zidan for Xavi. (purely to control wages). ONly offer was for Javi Garcia, but this too was below market value. Let him go, because squad was getting too big, and there are many yougsters with better potential than him.

Kaka I'm still undecided, because when I played Cups with brazil he was a consistent performer. Hopefully can gel with the rest of the team. MAde a big 'boo-boo' forgetting to make an offer for ole Stevie G. Could have swapped out Becks for him. Looks like the Gravesen/Becks/Baptista/Xavi combinations for this seasons central midfied berths.

During transfer window, select from your shortlist or search window.

Select 'Opne Trade negotiations" or Loans. Exchange the player for one of yours. Not ALL players you want will have the options to be available for trade/loan. There are some conditions I think it's based on the remaining contract period or something.

Better if you use similarly valued palyers so you don't have to pay anything at all.

Note: Your transfer listed players and those undergoing contract talks can be exchanged.
