Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - News/Discussions Official Thread (Last Update 07/24/07)

People will always have mixed opinions, judge it for yourself, don't let other people sway your opinion.

Some people say it plays great, this magazine says it's only a bit better.

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - News/Discussions Official Thread (Last Update 07/24/07)

That's the first proper review I've seen, and also the first review of the game I've seen from someone outside of Konami (bar my contact who said it was utter poo). So I don't have very high hopes for it.

But then saying that, everything else got a glowing report, so I don't understand how he wasn't a bit more angry. If I'd had all that to say, "great graphics, great new feature", then I would have finished and said "which is a shame when the actual gameplay is exactly the fucking same".

There is one bright side though, a lot of magazines have been hinting at an online Master League. That is probably the only thing that could rekindle my interest now.

Well, unless a review comes out shortly after it's announced saying "and there's still only 16-team leagues with 8-team feeder leagues underneath them, plus you can't move clubs and have a realistic managerial career, plus online you can't save your formations and so have to dick around for five minutes before each game, plus there's a cheat where you can buy any player from anybody's team for three points - yep, it's not pounds, it's not dollars, it's still points. But apart from that, it's great".

That's what the review on the last page sounds like to me. "It's the same as last year but apart from that it's great".

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - News/Discussions Official Thread (Last Update 07/24/07)

Laugh all you want Jack, but you already said it "well he's only played it for three hours". That's an obvious reason no matter what you say. We won't know anything about gameplay unless WE play it. Each one of us has his style of play plus adapting to the game. Every PES version was different from its predecessor and needed time to adapt, so why would this be different? Add to that its next gen. I can personally tell you at the beginning of EVERY PES version i have played i always go "This game is fucking shit, they fucked up". But later on it turns out to be a class game.

To be honest i think you take "speculation" bit too far with negativity. I think you need to be more rational.

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - News/Discussions Official Thread (Last Update 07/24/07)

Just wait till you play it before you judge it

reviews a 1 persons opinion, i have liked alot of games with bad reviews and hated ones with good reviews. so i will wait till i play it before i start moaning

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - News/Discussions Official Thread (Last Update 07/24/07)

Sorry, but three hours is a long time to play a game. If you take the time on a weekend to rent a game and play it for three hours, then you can write a pretty comprehensive review of it, and know how it feels to play. Whether it's complex or not (especially when it's a sports game).

Imagine yourself doing it, going to Blockbuster and renting a game, then playing it for three hours solid. Ten minutes isn't long enough, an hour is long enough, three hours is frigging plenty. Especially in a game where every "level" is the same - 22 men and a ball, over and over and over. You'll know pretty quickly whether it's improved or not - or at least, if I was the reviewer, I would know if it had improved DRAMATICALLY or not, and that's what matters to me. Anything less isn't good enough.

As you say Lami, every version you played from the start gave you the feeling "oh my God, this is shit" - so if someone plays it and their reaction is "it's the same", that says to me that your reaction (or at least my reaction) will be that as well. If he said "it's worse" or "it's better" then yeah, that happens every year and everyone always says they love it shortly afterwards, but if he says it feels the same, then there can't be a dramatic difference in the gameplay - and nothing less than a dramatic difference would interest me, when the gameplay has been stuck in a rut for years.

I'm just praying that the Master League is online and that it's had a lot of work done to it.

But I've said my bit so, to avoid the risk of incurring further "you're a broken record" posts, I'll shut up and read everyone else's reactions now.

Uhm i did not see any of the feature i am realy looking forward to:
manual passing, not scripted deflections, better customizible camera angle. The ball physics sounds good though.

Still as i play on line I wanna see less cheating, I am not looking forward to diving context. And the color palette looks still the same. Bah why they don't focus on real issue I don't really understand.

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - News/Discussions Official Thread (Last Update 07/24/07)

Perhaps it's the bitter experience of recent years with PES, where repeated play has not unearthed a wonderful gaming experience but has, in fact, engendered feelings of disappointment, frustration, anger and even loathing for the way the gameplay has descended into a spectacle of overbearing cpu cheats, that leads one to fear the worst from the comment that it plays practically the same as its predecssor.

It's clear there's going to be different views because some people are perfectly happy with PES6 and don't even notice it's shortcomings. For them, all the little touches in PES2008, like the bench joining in celebrations, will be nice enhancements, icing on the cake.

For others, PES has stagnated and become, at times, a quite horrible game, and the move to next-gen was the one big hope to see the game receive the (r)evolutionary boost that they feel is in desparate need. For them, all the little touches, like the bench joining in celebrations, will be seen as trivial attempts to cover up a lack of genuine progress in the game.

When someone tells me they feel it plays pretty much the same as PES6, then I take from that that little of substance has changed.

Of course, I am still keen to try it for myslef, but if even one of the prevalent cpu cheats reveals itself within the first match, my heart will undoutedly sink. Then again, perhaps it will be fun to list them all again, and spot the new ones served up by TeamVision.

Honestly, I am not worried about CPU cheats. I rarely play against CPU, and I am sure that I will have the house packed with friends when I have this game.

Jack, I think you are taking the words of the reviewer as a truth. For me, three hours to evaluate a game like PES is nothing. You can find some details but it is impossible to qualify a game like the one before only in three hours. In fact, I would take those three hours seeing the new clubs and the stats of any player before playing it. Yes, I am sick with players' abilities.

As Coopz says, I need to play it first. I wont let anyone else judge the game instead myself.

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - News/Discussions Official Thread (Last Update 07/24/07)

So basically Seabass has had our pants down again.

"Ill add a dive feature, that will keep them quiet."

"But Mr Bass what about the untucked shirts?"

"Go on then stick them in"

"And an updated master league?"

"No don't be daft"

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - News/Discussions Official Thread (Last Update 07/24/07)

If only half the people bought the game that bought evo6 do you think wed see huge changes the next year?

Yes, but would it ever happen...no. If the next version is basically PES6 with a few tacked on, superficial enhancements then I foresee some sort of boycott being started or at least a campaign to let Konami know that this trend will no longer be tolerated.

The words of Jack Bauer's contact still reverberate through my mind, Konami are more or less trying to copy FIFA.

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - News/Discussions Official Thread (Last Update 07/24/07)

I can't argue with anyone at the moment since i personally haven't played it yet. My arguments won't be solid no matter what. But i prefer to stick to being positive and hope all turn out good. Yes there is scripting in PES6, but that doesn't mean i slate it since it isn't scripting 100% of the time; not even 20% imho. Yes i do hate it whenever scripting shows its ugly face but to be honest i don't know how AI would have a brain of its own without "scripting".
Its a complicated topic and i'm not sure we can go into arguing about how it works because none of us are game developers. All we know though, is that we want a script(cheat)-free game. Apart from it, I'm satisfied about many aspects of the game but obviously some things need to be changed. We can only wait and see for ourselves.
To be honest i have no reason to be negative since i have been satisfied with all PES games. Still, like most of you, i do hope for a better football gaming experience from a next-gen game.

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - News/Discussions Official Thread (Last Update 07/24/07)

The comments from that reviewer are in a pc magazine. I don't trust PC magazines when it comes to console games... :)

And he's german, i dont like German football (they beat us in the WC) :D

And just the other day a friend of mine who plays PES a lot, said something like there wasn't much difference between PES 4, 5, 6...

Obviously to each his own, but some people are better at judging changes in a game like this than others.

I like your optimism. I'm also like you. I play against the CPU about 10% of the time. The other 90 is playing against mates. I'm sure that figure would be more even if the CPU experience was more enjoyable.

I'm going to hold any further judgments on the game until i see some actual footage and then when i get my hands on the game. The slowdown on the PC sounded worrying. Lets all hope they were running it on a 433MHZ Pentium II :D

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - News/Discussions Official Thread (Last Update 07/24/07)

Every bastard who logs on to EVO-WEB will buy it or ponce it from somewhere, but with the hammering it's taken before even played,it can only get better...Shit if if it was up to some of the members on here it would'nt be released. Secret contacts, mission impossible, blah blah. You'll still buy it.Because we are all just bloody FANBOYS..:lmao::lol:

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - News/Discussions Official Thread (Last Update 07/24/07)

Will Liverpool be licensed?

No

I'll be getting the game no question about it, and probably buying a next-gen console for it as well. That make me a fanboy? :D
No game beats multi-player PES and if PES2008 improves on PES6 then chances are I'll be happy. I don't care about sweat marks etc(you never notice the current little details using Wide camera angle) or silly little managers/benches/pubs etc but if it plays well then that's good enough for me

slowdowns
Balls :(
Why add all these extra small things if it affects the overall game?

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - News/Discussions Official Thread (Last Update 07/24/07)

Drogba/C.Ronaldo move

Sorry to argue but Cristiano invented it, and he used it way before Drogba went out from the jungle and copied his stuff.

EDIT: by EatonTJ

Evo-Web will not tolerate your fuckin' racist viewpoints. Keep them to yourself.

I will leave this here for everyone to see how ignorant you are. Enjoy the e-stocks.

pes 2008 will have more similarities with WEX than the new j-league konami has moved on to next gen 1 year ago but people got dissapointed because pes6(360) wasn't a true next-gen title and because of that not to many ppl played the game didn't gave it a chance at all.I my self was very dissapointed too when i bought the game i was very dissapointed by it because it didn't raise my expectations at all. After some time though and only when i played it for a week i realized how better it was from the ps2 version and it is guys really but anw thats just my opinion and everyone is different but if u ask seabass or anybody from the crew im sure they will tell u that WEX(360) is the best to date and not only that im sure they will also tell u that pes 2008 is based on WEX i mean is obvious if u consider what the magazine wrote is pretty clear anw i can't wait for this one better graphics atmosphere more game modes better gameplay of course, untucked shirts :) hope for better online mode as well we really need that 2vs2 mode get ready everybody
