Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - News/Discussions Official Thread (Last Update 07/10/07)

The portugal uni is as bad as the WE united one.......

Well still as long as we don't see the game moving we all stick to our positions. Mine is that is too hot to argue. Although I must say that the crowd seems to have some far right political views......heil....

I dunno, but there was always something endemically weird in PES, for example the guy carrying out injured players are black........why not white or asian?

Ah one more thing: is it so bloody complicated to put 50 different faces on the crowd?? why the same 5 ones over and over? A world made of twins???

Im really happy with these screens, i think as soon as we see the game in motion were going to lay off on the graphics a little.

Facial expressions are spot on as are player likenesses

And the lighting in this pic is spot on.

I mean, it looks fine... its not fifa by far but then i wouldn't want it to be.

I think it's from a later build but it's still far from the final version. Look at the ball, adboards, maybe the lightning and the wrinkles in the shirts etc there are a lot more wrinkles than in previous screens look at ronaldo's short in the first screen (looks a little strange). I hope the next improvement we'll see in the ater builds are the crowd and the watermarks and the textures.

I think the screens are fine.

The pictures are not awesome, I agree.
But I guess that like everytime, the result will be (much) different when we see it in motion.

Moreover, is Fifa going to win the ghx award this time (too)?
Maybe. But I really don't care about it.

Fifa has shitty gameplay.
Fifa has shitty animations.
The stadium graphics, the details' graphics rock ok.
But it is not enough.
It is far from being enough.

So let's wait to see a video and to have the pad (sixaxis please, not that 360's shit) in our hands.

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - News/Discussions Official Thread (Last Update 07/10/07)

I think the screens are not bad at all, especially the two brighter pictures look great. The very dark first picture is bad though. The crowd on that one look very blurry.
One strange thing is the grass: Where is the detail of the grass we did see from some older pictures?

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - News/Discussions Official Thread (Last Update 07/10/07)

I like what I've seen so far. This thing will be rendered by my computer, and I would be happy if I don't need to buy a DX10 GPU just to get some sense of movement from it. :)

I think the crowd has to be a lttle blurry. The crowd in these screens are like ghosts. THeye all look like albino's in the sun.

Oh yes, it is very funny if the gameplay will be as good as said.
You emphasize too much on graphics. That is more the speciality of FIFA.

BTW this german picture lookes brighter then the darkest we've seen sofar:

Why would you spend time designing a ball purely for screenshots? In older PES games, the screenshots would have the plain white ball if they hadn't got any finished designs.

Two guys run WENB, and they're currently at work...

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - News/Discussions Official Thread (Last Update 07/10/07)

Pretty uninspiring screens.

I agree with the cartoon comments. I thought we'd be at the stage now where the characters looked lifelike, almost photo-realistic. These just look like computer gfx from a PS2 game.

If they can't even do the easy part by making impressive gfx, it makes me wonder what kind of job are they going to do with the hard stuff - TeamVision AI.

Well, it's an easy way to make sure people can look at the pictture and know what game it is, if the screenshots don't have any logos or info with them. :)

And it might be a in-game ball they designed and that will be in the game (along with many others I hope ;)).

BTW; are these from E3, and if so, is this what KONAMI will release? Anything else that might come out? Or should I go back to bed... :)

New screenshots look very fine...The body of players is very realistic and the uniforms, too...I think PES2008 player model are better than FIFA 08 ones...I know FIFA's got stronger lights effects, but I repeat PES2008 players "drawings" are more realistic and sober...I'm a comic drawer and I know what I say

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - News/Discussions Official Thread (Last Update 07/10/07)

What alot of people tend to forget when they compare screen shots is that ea do alot of "tidying up" in photoshop pre screen release. Konami are honest and take shots directly from the game.

Here is a little example of what i mean.

Also here is my translation of the article on this although my german isnt the best...

The portugese footballer Cristiano Ronaldo has become the European-wide face of Konamis football simulation pro evolution Soccer 2008, which will be released this autumn. Together with a national player of the respective country Ronaldo becomes the Coverstar for the packeging. "For me there is no other player that catches the attraction and the art of football as well Cristiano Ronaldo. Each element of the player has been replicated with incredible detail, and with its usual control and the incomparable gameplay it is the perfect simulation of genuine football."

You are probably surprised about the negative approach of people towards these screenshots. Good to see a professional rates the pictures this way.
I said too the pictures are fine, but we seem to be a minority overhere ;)

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - News/Discussions Official Thread (Last Update 07/10/07)

All these comments about it is too cartoony then what is fifa??? I mean it's ten times more cartoony than pro evo. They are like disney pixar models.

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - News/Discussions Official Thread (Last Update 07/10/07)

the photoshop pic looks great only if that was he pics konami released of there in gameplay pics. totally true , ea are liers and release all these enhanced pics which look nowhere nere the actual gameplay pics.remember the last year fifa 07 looked very good from the pics so just the other week when back to playing fifa 07 for a week as love the manager mode (hope konami do something similar with real money)and saw the actual gamplay was very poor the shooting was awful and every player felt exactly the same and only difference was the difference in speed. for the grapghics the player models were awful and the faces looked like pictures stuck on the players face and not part of the face lke onami's looks natural. only good thing was the pitch and the sound as that kept it from being apsolutely awful, would rather play pro evo 3 than fifa 07, the grapghics were seriously sh**.

You work for Konami, don't you? ;)

Couldn't disagree more. FIFA is one pack of sweaty, imperfect animals versus another. PES is perfect plasticine.

What alot of people tend to forget when they compare screen shots is that ea do alot of "tidying up" in photoshop pre screen release. Konami are honest and take shots directly from the game.

Here is a little example of what i mean.

I don't remember seeing a Photoshopped FIFA screenshot - I remember them looking exactly like they do in the game, which wasn't always a good thing (brilliant looking still shots of FIFA World Cup 06, with a then-amazing grass effect, but the final game jerked like fuck and was practically unplayable).

I take what you've done there and see a different point than you originally make yourself. I see that and think "if he can do that in five minutes, why can't Konami do it in 18 months?" Yes, it's a still shot you're playing with, but they could so easily turn the contrast up, add an extra level of blur to the crowd and improve those horrible, plain shirt textures (they look great from the side but from the front they look like wood). Yes, gameplay is more important™, but there is an art department at Konami as well you know, who should be doing these things rather than leaving it to the patchers.

Also, this isn't a pop at PES but in football games in general, I've noticed this more and more in the past few weeks - is it just me or do the "wooden tube arms" look really stupid now that we're in next-gen territory? If you look at the arms of the shirts, they always have a perfect cylinder shape, as if they're made out of wood or metal. Same with the shorts - if I was going to see any graphical improvement then I'd like to see that improved the most (aside from the facial expressions). The shirts in other next-gen games don't look like that.

I admit that I expect a lot, but Seabass gave an interview a while back saying this would be a "truly next-gen experience, including the graphics" - sorry, but if I can spot the same graphics as always need improving, then you're not trying hard enough, little fishy.

Ronaldo's not even looking at the ball - in that situation, with the ball that far away from your body, you would have to see where you're stabbing with your foot - otherwise you'd miss it completely.

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - News/Discussions Official Thread (Last Update 07/10/07)

When is the show at Liepzig again?

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - News/Discussions Official Thread (Last Update 07/10/07)

They better include collision detection and still no long tapes for C.Ronaldo which isn't really important in terms of gameplay but is just fun.
ps:Jack Bauer ,I thought you were a little more "positive" about the game :mrgreen:
